FE-based On-Line Model for the Prediction of Roll Force and Roll Power in Finishing Mill (II) Effect of Tension (유한요소법에 기초한 박판에서의 압하력 및 압연동력 정밀 예측 On-Line모델 (II) 장력의 영향)

  • On-line prediction model which calculate roll force, roll power and forward slip of continuous hot strip rolling was built based on the results of plane strait rigid-viscoplastic finite element process model. Using the integrated FE process model, a series of finite element simulation was conducted over the process variables, and the influence of various process conditions on non-dimensional parameters was inspected. The prediction accuracy of the proposed on-line model under front and back tension is examined through comparison with predictions from a finite element process model over the various process conditions. In addition, we examined the validity of the on-line prediction model through comparison with roll force of experiment in hot rolling.

  • A simulation of hot strip finishing mill automatic gauge control (AGC) system is built, which is divided into four modules such as rolling mill system, AGC module, looper system and strip model. The rolling mill system is built by mechanism modeling, the looper system and strip model are built by function modeling, and the AGC model is tried to use intelligent control of a multi-function AGC system. The target is attempted to use this simulation object to minimize finisher exit strip thickness deviation resulting from strip entry thickness disturbance and rolling force deviation. Simulation results show that the result of this AGC/LPC synthetical system module simulation is quite close to the actual result. The simulation system can also analyze most kinds of disturbance which affect the rolling process. It is proved that the system can represent practical situation of hot strip finishing mill process control, and be used as a basic platform of research and development for researcher and engineer.

  • The behaviors of steel-plate shear panels were investigated through an experimental and analytical study, using mild steel (S40). Steel-plate shear panels buckle at small loads, and their strength is based on the shear panel's postbuckling strength due to tension field action. In design practice, however, the capacity of steel-plate shear panels is limited to the elastic buckling strength of shear panels. Th e National Standard on Limit States Design of Steel Structures, CAN/CSA-S16.1-94 (1994) contains a guideline for the analysis of thi n, unstiffened, steel-plate shear walls using the strip model. In this paper, the structural capacity of shear panels was evaluated using the results of the experiment and of the strip model analysis.

  • Flatness of cold rolled strip is vital to the quality of the product and productivity of the mill. Therefore, in recent year requirement for flatness control in strip rolling have become increasingly severe. The necessity for more accurate automatic gauge control and automatic flatness control(AFC) has increased by customer's requirement for cold rolled steel sheets with thinner gauge and better flatness quality. In this paper, the performance and functions of AFC system installed on the 4 hi-reversing mill has been investigated under actual conditions. The test results are as follows : The more strip thickness is thick, the smaller the I-value. The I-value is a strain measured by stressometer. Complex distributions of strip tension are controlled to remove not only a quarter buckle but also a simple center wave and edge wave. The defects caused by poor flatness have been drastically decreased. And a proper coolant temperature for work roll cooling system on the AFC system is about $50~55^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper studies on the feedback linearization of the looper system for hot strip mills, where the looper system plays an important role in regulating the strip tension. Firstly, nonlinear dynamic equations of the looper system are simply introduced. Secondly, using the static feedback linearization algorithm, a linear model of the looper system is obtained, of which usefulness is validated from comparison between the linear model and the nonlinear model, and design of LQI(Linear Ouadratic Integral optimal control) and ILQ (Inverse Linear Quadratic optimal control) looper control systems.   • In this paper, a kinematic optimal design of a new paralleltype rolling mill based upon two Stewart platforms manipulator is investigated. The objective of this new parallel-type rolling mill is to permit an integrated control of the strip thickness, strip shape, pair crossing angle, uniform wear of the rolls, and tension of the strip. A manipulability measure, as the ratio of the manipulability ellipsoid volume and the condition number of a split Jacobian matrix, is defined. Two kinematic parameters, the radius of the base and the angle between two neighboring joints, are optimally designed by maximizing the global manipulability measure in the entire workspace.

  • Rolling speed, roll gap, and cooling pattern in hot strip finishing mill process should be determined before inserting strip into roll. Such parameters are initially calculated by a mathematical set-up model. The technique to find adequate roll speed via a mathematical model has inherently limit because required working conditions are various and rolling process is nonlinear. To improve the accuracy of initial rolling speed for a finishing mill, this paper suggests a correction technology for initial rolling speed. The proposed method was implemented in hot strip mill process. As the results, the magnitude of width error in strip head-end part caused by excessive strip tension was decreased remarkably.

  • This study investigated the tension-field action induced strip angle changes and deformed mode shapes of SPSW for high-rise structures subjected to lateral forces. Based on the numerical analysis 3, 9, 14 and 20 story structures, shear and flexural modes were identified by comparing the numerical analysis results to the predicted strength by theory. Shear deformation mode exhibited a constant angle in tension-field; whereas, flexural mode of the numerical results, differed from the tension-field action theory.

Feedback Linearization Control of the Looper System in Hot Strip Mills

  • This paper studies on the linearization of a looper system in hot strip mills, that plays an important role in regulating a strip tension or a strip width. Nonlinear dynamic equations of the looper system are analytically linearized by a static feedback linearization algorithm with a compensator. The proposed linear model of the looper is validated by a comparison with a linear model using Taylor's series. It is shown that the linear model by static feedback well describes nonlinearities of the looper system than one using Taylor's series. Furthermore, it is shown from the design of an ILQ controller that the linear model by static feedback is very useful in designing a linear controller of the looper system.
