The Energy Release Rate for Cracks in a Rotating Continuum (균열을 내재한 회전체의 에너지방출률)

  • For a rotating body with cracks, the new energy release rate equation is presented. The derived equation is different from the other researcher's results. It is a path-independent integral which excluded the derivatives of displacements near the crack tip, thereby improving the numerical accuracy of the energy release rate computation. Moreover, as the equation was derived on basis of the energy principle and non-linear elasticity without assumptions, it can applied to the cracked body with arbitrary shape under elastic-plastic deformation. Several examples are treated to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method compared to existing methods.

  • In this study, we attempted to quantify the relative importance of assumptions regarding blood rheology. Three patient-specific carotid bifurcation geometries and time-varying flow rates were obtained using magnetic resonance imaging. For each subject, CFD simulations were carried out assuming two different non-Newtonian rheology models (Carreau and Ballyk models) and rescaled Newtonian viscosities based on characteristic shear rates to account for the shear-thinning property of blood. The sensitivity of WSS and oscillatory shear index (OSI) were contextualized with respect to the reproducibility of the reconstructed geometry and to assumptions regarding the inlet boundary conditions. We conclude that the assumption of Newtonian fluid is reasonable for studies aimed at quantifying the distribution of WSS-based extrema in an image-based CFD model of carotid bifurcation.

Design of the precision micro-positioning stage (초정밀 마이크로 위치결정 스테이지의 설계)

  • We present a micro-positioning stage that has minimized geometrical error and can drive in the 4-axis. This stage divided into two parts: $Z\theta_x$ $\theta_y$, motion stage and$\theta_z$ motion stage. These stages are constructed in flexure hinges, piezoelectric actuators and displacement scnsors. The dynamic model for each stage is obtained and their FE (finite element) models are made. Using the Lagrange's equation, the motion of equation is found. Through the parametric analysis and FE analysis, sensitiv~ty of the design parameters is executed. Finally, fundamental frequencies, maximum stress, and displacement sensitivity for each stage are obtained. We expect that this micro-positioning stage be a useful micro-alignment device for various applications.

  • For multi-body dynamic problems. especially coalescent eigenvalue problems with multiobjective optimization, the design sensitivity analysis is too much complicated mathematically and numerically. Therefore, this article proposes a new technique for structural dynamic modification using a mode modification and homologous structures design method with Genetic Algorithm(GA). In this work, the homologous structure of the resiliently mounted multi-body for marine diesel generator systems is studied and the problem is treated as a combinational optimization problem using the GA. In GA formulation, fitness is defined based on penalty function approach. That include homology, allowable stress and minimum weight of common plate.

  • This work is the attempt to give qualitative explanations to complex magnetic phenomena which are observed in the previously proposed magnetostrictive sensor capable of ultrasonic waves and rotational speed measurement. The law of approach is adopted as analysis tool in order to account for some extraordinary output patterns and proved to be effective. The distance between the anhysteretic curve current magnetic state and the variation of anhysteretic curve by stress mainly determine the sensor output shapes and their uniqueness. It is also experimentally verified that the precisely determined bias magnetic field strength can not only remove the unusual output parts but also maximize its sensitivity.

  • The high temperature deformation behaviour of 15vol% SiCp/A16061 composites has been studied in the temperature range of 300-50$0^{\circ}C$ and the strain rate range of 0.1-3.0/sec by torsion test. On he basis of the flow stress data the strain rate sensitivity(m) of the material is evaluated and used for calculating the deformation efficiency(η) [η=2m/(m+1)] A domain of dynamic recrystallization(DRX) could be identified in these maps by using the deformation efficiency. The characteristicvs of these results has been investigated with the help of determining the region of optimum hot working condition.

  • The corrosion rate, behavior of corrosion fatigue and characteristic of cathodic protection for SB41 were investigated by corrosion and corrosion control tests in seawater at laboratory and coast. The main result obtained are as the following; 1) The corrosion rate of base metal (BM) is about 28-37 mg/dm super(2) day in seawater of coast. 2) The correlation between the stress intensity factor range $\Delta$K and crack propagation rate da/dN for weldment follows paris' rule in seawater : da/dN=C($\Delta$K) super(m) where m is the slope of the correlation, and is 2.02 for BM and 1.75 for heat affected zone (HAZ) respectively. 3) The corrosion sensitivity of HAZ is more sensitive than that of BM under the low region of $\Delta$K. 4) With increase of bared surace area of cathode, cathodic protection potential is increased sharply.

Model of Least Square Support Vector Machine (LSSVM) for Prediction of Fracture Parameters of Concrete

  • This article employs Least Square Support Vector Machine (LSSVM) for determination of fracture parameters of concrete: critical stress intensity factor ($K_{Ic}^s$) and the critical crack tip opening displacement ($CTOD_c$). LSSVM that is firmly based on the theory of statistical learning theory uses regression technique. The results are compared with a widely used Artificial Neural Network (ANN) Models of LSSVM have been developed for prediction of $K_{Ic}^s$ and $CTOD_c$, and then a sensitivity analysis has been performed to investigate the importance of the input parameters. Equations have been also developed for determination of $K_{Ic}^s$ and $CTOD_c$. The developed LSSVM also gives error bar. The results show that the developed model of LSSVM is very predictable in order to determine fracture parameters of concrete.

  • Asymmetric force and vibration caused by separation flow at high angle of attack affect the stability of supersonic missile. As a preliminary study we verified the effect of turbulence model through general 3-D slender body for the supersonic flow at high angle of attack. ${\kappa}-{\omega}$ Wilcox model, ${\kappa}-{\omega}$ Wilcox-Durbin+ model, ${\kappa}-{\omega}$ shear-stress transport model, and Spalart-Allmaras one equation model are used. Grid sensitivity test was performed with three different grid system. results show that all models are in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • This study performs to investigate deformation of wall thinning pipe and to find out the position of the internal thinning defect by shearography. Shearography is one of optical methods those have applied to nondestructive testing (NDT) and the strain/stress analysis. This technique has the merit of the directly measuring the first derivative of displacement, sensitivity of which can be adjusted by the handling of optical component in interferometer. In this paper, we tested carbon steel pipe locally wall thinned and loaded internal pressure and developed the nondestructive out-of-plane deformation analysis technique fur internal thinning defect of elbow by shearography. From the results, it was confirmed that this technique is proper to the practical application on the pipe line system with internal defect.
