  • This paper deals with two economic optimal designs of constant-stress accelerated life test(ALT) where failure distribution follows one of location-scale family, i. e., exponential, Weibull, and lognormal distributions which have been ones of the popular choices of failure distributions. Two optimization criteria to develop ALT plans are the statistical efficiency per unit expected cost which consists of the fixed test cost, cost being proportional to the number of test units, and variable test cost depending on test period and stress level, and the expected loss which combines Taguchi's quadratic loss function and expected test cost. Optimum plan determines the low stress level, test units allocated to each stress, and censoring times at two stress levels under Type I censoring. The proposed ALT plans are illustrated with a numerical example and sensitivity analyses are conducted to study effects of pre-estimates of design parameters.

  • Miniature ultrasonic and tactile sensors on Si substrate have been proposed, fabricated and characterized to detect objects for a dexterous robot. The ultrasonic sensor consists of piezoelectric PZT thin film on a Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$ and/or Si diaphragm fabricated using a micromachining technique; the ultrasonic sensor detects the piezoelectric voltage as an ultrasonic wave. The sensitivity has been enhanced by improving the device structure, and the resonant frequency in the array sensor has been equalized. Position detection has been carried out by using a sensor array with high sensitivity and uniform resonant frequency. The tactile sensor consists of four or three warped cantilevers which have NiCr or $Si:B^+$ piezoresistive layer for stress detection. Normal and shear stresses can be estimated by calculation using resistance changes of the piezoresitive layers on the cantilevers. Gripping state has been identified by using the tactile sensor which is installed on finger of a robot hand, and friction of objects has been measured by slipping the sensor.

  • System algorithms estimated by deterministic input may occur the error between predicted and actual output. Especially, actual system can't predict the exact outputs due to uncertainty and tolernce of input parameters. A single output to a set of inputs has a limited value without the variation. Hence, we should consider various scatters caused by the load assessment, material characteristics, stress analysis and manufacturing methods in order to perform the robust design or etimate the reliability of structure. The system design with uncertainty should perform the probabilistic structural optimization with the statistical response and the reliability. This method calculated the probability distributions of the characteristics such as stress by combining stress analysis, response surface methodology and Monte Carlo simulation and got the probabilistic sensitivity. The sensitivity of structural response with respect to in constant design variables was estimated by fracture probability. Therefore, this paper proposed the probabilistic reliability design method for fracture of uncorved freight end beam and the design criteria by fracture probability.

  • The effects of PWHT (poste weld heat treatment) and stress simulating the residual stress during PWHT in weld HAZ of low and high strength steels on corrosion fatigue crack growth were evaluated. The obtained results are summarized as follows. 1. Fatigue crack growth rate of HAZ in air and 3.5% NaCl solution was slower than that of parent due to the signgularity in weld HAZ. 2. In the case of HT-80, 3.5% NaCl solutio nacts to accelerate the crack growth for all specimens, and the sensitivity of as-weld to corrosion environment was the greatest among other PWHT specimens. 3. Corrosion fatigue crack growth of parent, as-weld and PWHT speciments ofr SS41 as well as SM53B was retarded in comparison with the fatigue crack growth in air. 4. There was a tendency that crack growth of PWHT specimens subjected $10kg/mm^2$ was faster than that of PWHT specimens without stress during PWHT. 5. The retardation phenomenon of crack growth in corrosion environment is attributed to the crack branching decreased .DELTA.K due to the corrosion products and multi-cracks.

  • The behavior of metallic materials at high strain rates shows different characteristics from those in quasi-static deformation. Therefore, the strain rate should be considered when simulating crash events. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the dynamic tensile characteristics of SPRC440 as a function of the volume fraction of phases. As-received SPRC440 is composed of ferrite and pearlite phases. However, ferrite and martensite phases were observed after heat treatment at $730^{\circ}C$ and $780^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes, as expected by calculations based on the curves from dilatometry tests. High cross-head speed tensile tests were performed to acquire strain-stress curves at various strain rates ranging from 0.001 to $300\;s^{-1}$, which are typical in real vehicle crashes. It was observed that the flow stress increases with the strain rate and this trend was more pronounced in the as-received specimens consisting of ferrite and pearlite phases. It is speculated that the dislocation density in each phase has an influence on the strain rate sensitivity.

  • The effects of the hole size(2R) and the specimen width(W) on the fatigue strength and the fatigue life in plain woven glass/epoxy composite plates are experimentally investigated under constant amplitude tensile fatigue loading. It is shown in this study that the notch sensitivity under fatigue loading is lower than that under static loading. It can be explained by the fact that the stress concentration is relaxed by the damage developed at the boundary of circular hole. To predict the fatigue strength at a specific cycle, the modified point stress criterion represented as a function of the geometry of the specimen(2R and W) is applied. It is found that the model used in the prediction of the notched tensile strength predicts the fatigue strength with reasonable accuracy. A model for predicting the fatigue life in the notched specimen, based on the S-$N_f$, curve in the smooth specimen, is suggested.

  • This paper is to optimize single-element piezoresistor shear stress strain gauge related to aspect ratio of rectangular diaphragm. The shear stress distribution on diaphragm has been simulated by finite-element method(FEM). As simulation results, the maximum sensitivity for strain gauge was appeared at the center of diaphragm with aspect ratio 3, and in along to long edge with the ratio 2. The diaphragm with ratio 2 is not acceptable due to the yield of mask alignment in IC process technology. The optimum condition of diaphragm with respect to good sensitivity was realized in the case of ratio 3. In this case, the area by gauge was 8% of overall size of rectangular diaphragm.

  • Recently with the rapid development in marine and shipbuliding industries such as marine structures, ship and chemical plants, there occurs much interest in the study of corrosion fatigue characteristics which was closed up an important role in mechanical design. In this study, the 5086 Al-alloy was tested by use of rotary bending fatigue tester. The retardation effect of overload on the corrosion fatigue crack propagation in sea environment was quantitatively studied. 1) Retardation effect of corrosion fatigue crack propagation is most eminent when overload ratio is 1.52, overload magnitude corresponds to about 77% and 55% of yield strength and tensile strength respectively. 2) After overload ratio 1.52 was used, retardation of corrosion fatigue crack growth rate is largely retarded and quasi-threshold stress intensity factor range($\Delta\textrm{K}_{th}$) appears. 3) According to m of experimental constant, retardation effect of corrosion fatigue crack propagation corresponds to about 25% of constant stress amplitude when overload ratio is 1.52. 4) When overload ratio 1.52 was used, retardation parameter (RP) decreases to about 0.43 and corrosion sensitivity (S)decreses to about 2.1.

  • This study investigates the role of the NAC transcription factor ANAC032 in regulating abscisic acid (ABA)-dependent stress responses and its involvement in sugar signaling pathways. Arabidopsis seedlings with overexpressed or knock-out ANAC032 were examined for their sensitivity to ABA, glucose, and fluridone to elucidate the functional role of ANAC032 in ABA and high glucose-mediated growth retardation. Our results showed that ANAC032 negatively regulates ABA responses, as ANAC-overexpressing plants exhibited higher ABA sensitivity, while anac032 mutants were less sensitive. Under high glucose conditions, anac032 mutants demonstrated hyposensitivity, with germination rates higher than wild-type and ANAC032-overexpressing plants. Additionally, yeast two-hybrid screening identified three NAC proteins, ANAC020, ANAC064, and ANAC074, interact with ANAC032. These findings highlight ANAC032's role in stress signaling pathways and its potential interactions with other NAC proteins, contributing to a better understanding of transcriptional regulation in plant stress responses and possibly expanding to forage crop development.
