This paper investigates the problem of a crack approaching two circular holes in an orthotropic infinite plate. The stress intensity factors were obtained by using the modified mapping-collocation method. The present results show excellent agreement with existing solutions for a crack approaching two circular holes in an isotropic infinite plate. In the numerical examples, various types of cross-ply laminated composites were considered. To investigate the effect of orthotropy and geometry(d/R and a/(d-R)) on crack tip singularity, stress intensity factors were considered as functions of the normalized crack length. It is expected that the modified mapping-collocation method can be applied to the analysis of various kinds of cracks existing around the stress-concentration region of composite laminate.
In order to investigate the corrosion fatigue characteristics in the weld of multi-pass welded A 106 Gr B steel pipe, corrosion fatigue tests were performed under the various stress ratios and 3.5 wt% NaCl solution at room temperature. The corrosion fatigue characteristic curves were represented using crack closure concept. The obtained results are as follows : when the load frequency is 1.0 Hz, the crack opening point is transited in the region of $K_{max}$=20∼32 MPaㆍ $m^{1}$2/. In the low stress intensity factor range, the crack opening point is higher than that in air. However, in the high stress intensity factor range, it is lower than that in air. In the cases of 0.1 Hz and 0.01 Hz, the crack opening point gradually decreases to $K_{min}$ with $K_{max}$ increase.rease.

The analysis model is the infinite power law creep material containing the rigid inclusion with crack shape. The present analysis is performed using the complex pseudo-stress function method. The strain rate intensity factor is developed as new fracture mechanics parameter which represents the stress and strain rate distribution near a crack tip in power law creep material. The strain rate intensity factor is developed in terms of Kolosoff stress functions.
Cracks in mechanical joints is generally under mixed-mode and there is the critical inclined angle at which mode I stress intensity factor becomes maximum. In order to evaluate the fatigue life of cracks in mechanical joints, horizontal crack normal to the applied load and located on minimum cross section is major concern but critical inclined crack must also be considered. In this paper mixed-mode fatigue crack growth test is performed for horizontal crack and critical inclined crack in mechanical joints. Fatigue crack growth path is predicted by maximum tangential stress criterion using mode I and mode II stress intensity factors obtained from weight function method, and fatigue crack growth rates of horizontal and inclined crack are compared.

The present paper will give some results of the fatigue behavior of typical axi-symmetric forward extrusion die. The extrusion process is analyzed by rigid-plastic FEM and the deformation analysis of extrusion die is conducted by elasto-plastic FEM. To approach the crack problem LEFM (Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics) is introduced. Using special element in order to conside the sigularity of stress/ strain in the vicinity of the crack tip, stress intensity factor and the effective stress intensity factor is calculated. Applying proper fatigue crack propagation criterion such as Paris/Erdogan fatigue law and maximum principal criterion to these data, then, the angle and the direction of fatigue crack propagation is simulated. In result, it is proved that the simulated fatigue crack propagates in the zigzag path along the radial direction and fatigue life of the extrusion die is evaluated by using the computed crack growth rate.
Disc specimen with the center crack and edge crack simulated by two-dimensional static method is used to analyze the stress field around the crack tip in terms of the stress intensity factor, K. A simple and convenient method of testing to realize the mifed mode stress intensity factor of the cracked body is used, The conclusions obtatined in this photoelastlc analysis are as follows ; 1. According to this experiment, cracked disc specimen can be used to demonstrate the mixed mode stress intensity factor analysis by simply changing the crack angle from the loading line. 2. Despite the simplicity and continuous data reading, the photoelastic method shows the slightly lower strain reading comparing to the FEM analysis method. 3. In this photoelastic analysis, $K_{I}$ of center cracked disc specimen under a pair of compressive load shows negative value as the crack angle increases over 30$^{\circ}$.
The structural integrity of the reactor pressure vessel under pressurized thermal shock (PTS) is evaluated in this study. For given material properties and transient histories such as temperature and pressure, the stress distribution is found and stress intensity factors are obtained for a wide range of crack sizes. The stress intensity factors are compared with the fracture toughness to check if cracking is expected to occur during the transient. A round robin problem of the PTS during a small break loss of coolant transient has been analyzed as a part of the international comparative assessment study, and the evaluation results are discussed. The maximum allowable nil-ductility transition temperatures are determined for various crack sizes.

The Stress intensity factors for edge cracks located at the bonding interface between the elastic semiconductor chip and the viscoelastic adhesive layer have been investigated. Such cracks might be generated due to stress singularity in the vicinity of the free surface. The domain boundary element method(BEM) has been employed to investigate the behavior of interface stresses. The overall stress intensity factor for the case of a small interfacial edge crack has been computed. The magnitude of stress intensity factors decrease with time due to viscoelastic relaxation.

This paper describes a fuzzy-based system for analyzing the stress intensity factors (SIFs) of three-dimensional (3D) cracks. A geometry model, i.e. a solid containing one or several 3D cracks is defined. Several distributions of local node density are chosen, and then automatically superposed on one another over the geometry model by using the fuzzy knowledge processing. Nodes are generated by the bucketing method, and ten-coded quadratic tetrahedral solid elements are generated by the Delaunay triangulation techniques. The singular elements such that the mid-point nodes near crack front are shifted at the quarter-points, and these are automatically placed along the 3D crack front. The complete finite element(FE) model is generated, and a stress analysis is performed. The SIFs are calculated using the displacement extrapolation method. To demonstrate practical performances of the present system, semi-elliptical surface cracks in a inhomogeneous plate subjected to uniform tension are solved.
In this paper, the analysis of the behavior of surface cracks in finite-thickness plates repaired with a Boron/Epoxy composite patch is investigated using three-dimensional finite element methods. The stress intensity factor at the crack-front was used as the fracture criteria. Using the Ansys Parametric Design Language (APDL), the stress intensities at the internal and external positions of repaired surface crack were compared. The effects of the mechanical and geometrical properties of the adhesive layer and the composite patch on the variation of the stress intensity factor at the crack-front were examined.
