  • Low Cycle fatigue data through stress controlled and strain controlled tests at room temperature were obtained for solution treated and thermally aged 304 stainless steel. All the tests were conducted with the greguency, 1Hz of stress controlled and the strain rate, 40%/min of strain controlled. The aged specimen had the longer fatigue life at the lower stresses than at the higher stresses. It is shown that the fatigue limit of the aged specimen was a little higher than that of the solution treated specimen. It is considered to be due to the presence of carbide precipitates at grain boundary which depressed the crack propagation. The aged specimen showed the larger alternating stress and the more rapid cyclic work harding than the solution treated specimen. Bauschinger effect of the aged specimen was not pronounced than that of the solution treated specimen.

  • As the technique of resistance spot welding became more and more advanced the factors hitherto considered secondary become more and more important. Among these factors the distribution of heat and temperature during resistance spot welding is particularly important in conjunction with thermal stress, strain and residual stress, strain problems. The analytical investigations upon the transient temperature due to resistance spot welding were made for the carbon steel plate and aluminum alloy plate. The numerical values obtained by the analytical investigation are nearly identical with the temperature distribution which obtained by D.J. Sullivan and some other experimental data. It was thought therefore useful to estimate the heat effect upon the material such as a residual stress and strain, metalurgical change, change in physical properties and etc.

  • This paper presents a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique to obtain compressive stress-strain data for rubber materials. An experimental technique that modifies the conventional Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) has been developed for measuring the compressive stress-strain responses of materials with low mechanical impedance and low compressive strengths such as rubber. This paper introduces an all-polymeric pressure bar which achieves a closer impedance match between the pressure bar and the specimen materials. In addition, we are a pulse shaper to lengthen the rising time of the incident wave to ensure stress equilibrium and homogeneous deformation of a rubber materials. It is found that the modified technique can be determine the dynamic deformation behavior of an NBR rubber more accurately.

  • To evaluate transport-induced cladding embrittlement after interim-dry storage, ring compression tests were carried out at room temperature(RT) and 135 ℃. The ring compression test specimens were prepared by simulating the interim-dry storage conditions that include four peak cladding temperatures of 250, 300, 350 and 400 ℃, two tensile hoop stresses of 80 and 100 MPa, two hydrogen contents of 250 and 500 wt.ppm-H and a cooling rate of 0.3 ℃/min. Radial hydride fractions of the ring specimens vary depending on those interim-dry storage conditions. The RT compression tests generated lower offset strains than the 135 ℃ ones. In addition, the RT and 135 ℃ compression tests indicate that a higher peak cladding temperature, a higher tensile hoop stress and the lower hydrogen content generated a lower offset strain. Based on the embrittlement criterion of 2.0% offset strain, an allowable peak temperature during the interim-dry storage may be proposed to be less than 350 ℃ under the tensile hoop stress of 80 MPa at the terminal cool-down temperature of 135 ℃.

  • Stress/strain dependencies of the critical current I$_{c}$ in AgMgNi sheathed multifilamentary Bi(2212) superconducting tapes were evaluated at 77K. The external reinforcement was accomplished by soldering Ag-Mg tapes to single side or both sides of the sample. With the external reinforcement, the strength of tapes increased but I$_{c}$ decreased. The I$_{c}$ degradation characteristic according to the external reinforcement was improved markedly in terms of the stress although it appeared less remarkable on the basis of the strain. Effects of external reinforcement were discussed in a viewpoint of monitoring sensitivity of cracking in superconducting filaments by considering n-value representing the transport behavior of the current, which is closely associated with the location of them relative to the voltage-monitoring region in the tape. tape.

  • The strength and ductile capacity of reinforced concrete column can be improved by confinement using transverse reinforcement. Variety stress-strain models about the reinforced concrete confined by transverse reinforcement has been proposed. In this paper, parameters which effect to the ultimate confinement stress of circular cylinder confined by high strength transverse steel is examined. And the possion's ratio equation is proposed by analysis of strain between concrete and transverse reinforcement.

  • Cord-rubber composites widely used in tires show very complicated mechanical behavior such as nonlinearity and large deformation. Three-phase(cord, rubber and the interface) modeling has been used to analyze the stress distribution in the cord-rubber composites more accurately. In this study, finite element methods were performed using two-dimensional generalized plane strain element and plane strain element to investigate the stress distribution and effective modulus of cord-rubber composites. Neo Hookean model was used for rubber property and several interface properties were assumed for various loading directions. It was found that the interface properties affect the effective modulus and the distributions of shear stress.

  • Bogie frame of the locomotive is an important structural member for the support of vehicle loading. A lot of study has been carried out for the prediction of the structural integrity of the bogie frame in experimental and theoretical domains. The objective of this paper is to estimate the structural integrity of the bogie frame. Strength analysis has been performed by finite element analysis. From these analysis, stress concentration areas were investigated. For evaluation of the loading conditions, dynamic stress were measured by using strain gage. It has been found that the stress and strain due to the applied loads were multi-axial condition according to the location of strain gage. The fatigue strength evaluations of the bogie frame are performed to investigate the effect of the multi-axial load through the employment of the critical plane approach.
