The purpose of this study was to investigate the family stresses and its managing strategy to cope with the stresses, and family strengths among commuting couples. The participants of this study consisted of a national samples of 134 couples (268 individuals), whose has been commuting for at least six months The major findings obtained from the study are summarized in the following: 1) The degree of family stresses among commuting couples was 2.98, when the maximal stress value was set to 5.0. The most stressful aspect for the commuting couples came from the role of parents who care for their children. 2) The degree of coping strategy among commuting couples was 3.37, when the maximal coping strategy value was set to 5.0. Among the strategies, the 'cognitive restructuring' shows the first. 3) The degree of family strengths among commuting couples was 3.76, when the maximal strengths value was set to 5.0. Also factors affecting the family strengths among commuting couples are dependent on their educational degree, religion, kind of jobs, commuting and conjugal periods, moving person, meeting frequencies, self-esteem and marital satisfaction. 4) The most effective variable of family strengths among commuting couples was marital satisfaction.
The purpose of this study was examining the effects of family sandplay therapy with structural family therapy in improving the family strengths of children with emotional and behavioral disorders. First, we looked for a way to combine family sandplay therapy with structural family therapy and formulated an approach that could maximize the strengths of each theory and complement each other's weaknesses. And then we applied family sandplay therapy together with structural family therapy and analyzed its effects on family strengths. The subjects of this study were 10 families of children with emotional and behavioral disorders, and they were divided into an experimental group with 5 families and a control group with the other 5. To the experimental group received 16 sessions of family sandplay therapy with structural family therapy. In order to prove the effectiveness of family sandplay therapy with structural family therapy on family strengths, a family relationship( husband-wife relationship, parent-child relationship, and sibling relationship) scale and a family function(family cohesion, family adaptability) scale were used. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the family relationships of the families with emotional-behavioral disorder children were improved after the application of family sandplay therapy with structural family therapy. Second, the application of family sandplay therapy with structural family therapy improved the family function of families with emotional-behavioral disorder children. Third, in the course of family sandplay therapy with structural family therapy, family sand tray was changed in a pro-healing direction, and family structure was also transformed from a dysfunctional structure to a functional one. As previously stated, family sandplay therapy with structural family therapy for families of children with emotional and behavioral disorders enhanced family strengths through improving family relationships and restoring family functions.
This study investigates the influences of factors such as type and degree of family leisure among parents with five day work weeks on adolescents' perceived family strengths. Its findings are based on questionnaires collected from 525 male and female parents of middle school students. Factor analysis and MANOVA were employed for data analysis and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ tests for post-hoc analysis. The main findings were as follows. First, adolescents whose parents work five days a week were at a higher level than other adolescents in terms of finances, family ties, communication, and social ties. Second, there were no significant differences concerning adolescents' family strength by type of family leisure. Third, adolescents with more family leisure activities scored higher than others in the areas of manageable strengths, financial levels, family ties, communication, and family social ties. Fourth, among families following the five day working system, adolescents who had more family leisure activities scored higher than the others in regards to manageable strengths, financial levels, family ties, communication, and family social ties. Additionally, where adolescents thought they had fewer family leisure activities, family-oriented adolescents tended to be engaged in higher physical-activity-oriented and hobby-oriented activities in relation to manageable strengths, financial level, family ties, and communication and hobby-oriented adolescents engaged in higher than average amounts of physical-activity, strengthening family social ties in the process. Fifth, concerning families not adhering to the five day working system, adolescents who had more family leisure activities scored higher than others in terms of manageable strengths, financial levels, family ties, communication, and family social ties. As the above results indicate, family leisure activities appear to be a key factor influencing family strength. Therefore, further support should be extended toward developing new forms of family leisure and additional studies should be devoted to the subject.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impacts of family strengths perceived by children and self-esteem on friendship quality. The subjects of this study were 747 students in the 5th and 6th grade who are from 10 elementary schools in Incheon and Gyeonggi Province. The results are as follows: First, positive factor of the friendship quality had significant difference depending upon gender of child. That is, female have higher friendship quality than male. Also, general self-esteem, social-peer self-esteem and positive factor of friendship quality had significant difference depending upon father's educational level. Second, gender of child, self-esteem, family strengths what kind of effect should have gone mad to friendship quality, it examined. The variable of social-peer self-esteem is the most influence positive factor in friendship. The variable of school academic self-esteem is the most influence conflict in friendship. Most important factors that affected competition in friendship were family values. And most important factors that affected satisfaction in friendship were general self-esteem. In conclusion, variables effecting friendship quality include gender of child, self-esteem and family strengths. Therefore, family strengths and self-esteem are very important in order to improve the positive friendship quality of children.

This study aimed to explore the moderating effect of family strengths on the effect of work-family conflict on happiness in dual-income married couples. This study included 316 married employees who live in Seoul and have children attending junior high or lower grade schools. A survey was conducted December 1-30, 2018 by distributing questionnaires to child care centers, kindergartens, schools, companies, religious institutions, and other locations. The results are follows. First, in this study, the degree of family→work conflict was higher than that of work→family conflict in dual-income married couples, indicating that role conflict at work is greater due to family role pressures. Second, among the socio-demographic characteristics of dual-career couples, monthly income, family→work conflict (an independent variable), and family problem-solving skills (a moderating variable; a subcategory of family strengths) had a significant impact. In the analysis of the effect of work-family conflict on happiness, the higher the monthly income, the lower the family→work conflict, and the higher the family problem solving ability, the higher the feeling of happiness among dual-income married couples. When the work role conflicts from family life roles were more highly perceived in dual-income married couples. Moreover, family→work conflict and an interaction term of family problem-solving ability were identified as variables that had significant effects on happiness. Third, family problem-solving ability was identified as a moderator buffering the effect of work-family conflict on happiness.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of family strengths and self-esteem on depression among married women who have adolescents in middle and high school of their first child in Korea. To measure of depression using the CESD(the center for epidemiologic studies depression scale), the degree of husewives' depression was relatively higher than that of employed married women. As for the related variables, educational degree, S.E.S(socio-economic status), self-esteem turned out significant in housewives' depression. But, in the case of employed married women, these were not significant. Therefore, we are confirmed that the etiologic model of this study was more proper to housewives than employed married women. Finally, in both cases of housewives and employed married women, the effects of family strengths were mediated or moderated by self-esteem in predicting depression. The results of this study called for the encouraging of married women's self-esteem, the parti ipation of various social programs for housewives, and the programs to strengthening of their family relationships.
This study examined influence of strengths of family life and satisfaction with school life on adolescent psychological well-being, particularly targeting at high school students in the rapidly changing IT-based society. In order to investigate influence of factors related to home and school as the main living spaces on improving adolescent psychological well-being, a survey of 251 students at K academic high school in Busan was conducted and then multiple regression analysis was carried out. Firstly, the analysis showed that adolescents' sharing time at home could make a positive impact on their positive interpersonal relationships. It also showed that family bonds could have a positive impact on adolescents' positive interpersonal relationships, the goal of life, and personal growth, and thus satisfaction in communication at home was a factor that could be helpful to environmental control. Secondly, it indicated that adolescents' satisfaction with school life was a factor that had a positive impact on self-acceptance, environmental control, and the goal of life among the sub-factors of psychological well-being. It turned out that peer relationships could have a positive impact on positive interpersonal relationships, likewise school lessons and peer relationships could have a positive impact on autonomy. According to the results of analysis, factors related to strengths of family life and satisfaction with school life could affect adolescent psychological well-being. Therefore, these findings can be applied to establishing major youth policy.
This study analyzed Korean adults' perceptions of family functions and qualities needed for strong families. The sample consisted of 806 adults living in Seoul. Among different family functions, love and emotional support were considered the most important for family strength, while religion and consumption as family functions were not perceived as important. The surveyed adults thought that the function of socialization was the most essential among the family functions according to Murdock's(1949) theory, which were, sexual, reproductive, socialization, and economic functions. They responded that the most needed qualities for strong families were commitment, followed by appreciation and affection, positive communication, ability to cope with stress and crisis, enjoyable time together, and spiritual wellbeing. Adults' perceptions of family functions needed for strong families explained 27% of the variance in perceptions of qualities needed for family strengths. Finally, this study provides recommendations for future research.
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between family strengths and teacher-efficacy among married female teachers. The findings are as follows: First, the average value of family strength was 3.98 on a five-point Likert scale, which meant that they perceived themselves as having a relatively high-level of family strength. Second, the average value of leather-efficacy was 3.14 on a five-point Likert scale, which the teachers' perceptions of their own efficacy were also relatively high. 'The subjective economic status affected the level of the family strength, whereas the leather-efficacy was affected by age, years in teaching, duration of marriage, and the age of the eldest child. Finally, the variables that influenced their techer-efficacy were positive communication, social connectedness, and the age of the eldest child.
The purposes of this study were to find the general trends of single mothers' and adoescents' family resources stress perceptions coping and psychological well-being to examine the differences and correlations among single mothers' and their adolescents' variables and to analyze the effects of socio-demographic variables and family stress influencing psychological well-being. The subjects were the 568 single mothers and their adolescents living in Kwangju. The major findings were as follows; 1. Scores of single mothers' and their adolescents' family resources stress perceptions were lower than median but their stressors problem solving-focused coping life satisfaction and depression were higher than median. Single mothers' stressors coping stress perceptions were significantly higher than their adolescents' 2. Single mothers' family rsources stressors stress perceptions coping life satisfaction and depression were positively related to adolescents' 3. Single mother family's l fe satisfaction were influenced by stress perceptions problem solving-focused coping family strengths. Single mother family's depression were influenced by stress perceptions emotion-focused coping.
