The purpose of this study is to investigate the optimum replacement rate and material properties of eco-friendly recycled concrete using recycled coarse aggregates and rapid-chilled steel slag fine aggregates. The replacement rate of recycled coarse aggregates was increased from 30% to 50% of total volume of coarse aggregates and the rapid-chilled steel slag aggregates were substituted for 10% to 50% of total volume of fine aggregates. As a result, the increment of recycled coarse aggregates in concrete caused the reduction of the compressive strength. On the other hand, as increasing the replacement ratio of rapid chilled steel slag aggregates, the compressive strength was enhanced. Furthermore, the optimum use of rapid chilled steel slag aggregates was suggested up to 20~30% of fine aggregates and the use of it could be helpful to expand the replacement rate of recycled aggregates.
In the present study, crack healing effect and residual stress of $Al_2O_3$ ceramics were investigated by changing the sintering temperature and heat treatment conditions. And also it was investigated that the influence of different filler loadings of nano-sized SiC particles on the crack healing behavior of $Al_2O_3$ ceramics. The test samples were characterized by three point bend flexural tests to evaluate their mechanical properties. The morphological changes were studied by FE-SEM and EDS. The test results indicated that the $Al_2O_3$ with nano-sized SiC ceramics sintered at $1800^{\circ}C$ were showed highest density. Sintering temperature at $1800^{\circ}C$, the bending strength of heat treatment in air atmosphere specimens showed about 42 % increment in comparison to the un-heat treated specimens. The cracked specimens can be healed by heat treatment in vacuum atmosphere but the crack healing effect of $Al_2O_3$ ceramics, which is heat treated in air atmosphere was higher than that of heat treated in vacuum atmosphere. $Al_2O_3$ with 30 wt% of SiC ceramics indicated higher crack healing ability than that with 15 wt% of SiC ceramics. The FE-SEM images showed that the median cracks and pores were disappeared after heat treatment in air.
In order to understand the shear mechanical properties of the interface between clay and structure and better serve the practical engineering projects, it is critical to conduct shear tests on the clay-structure interface. In this work, the direct shear test of clay-concrete slab with different joint roughness coefficient (JRC) of the interface and different normal stress is performed in the laboratory. Our experimental results show that (1) shear strength of the interface between clay and structure is greatly affected by the change of normal stress under the same condition of JRC and shear stress of the interface gradually increases with increasing normal stress; (2) there is a critical value JRCcr in the roughness coefficient of the interface; (3) the relationship between shear strength and normal stress can be described by the Mohr Coulomb failure criterion, and the cohesion and friction angle of the interface under different roughness conditions can be calculated accordingly. We find that there also exists a critical value JRCcr for cohesion and the cohesion of the interface increases first and then decreases as JRC increases. Moreover, the friction angle of the interface fluctuates with the change of JRC and it is always smaller than the internal friction angle of clay used in this experiment; (4) the failure type of the interface of the clay-concrete slab is type I sliding failure and does not change with varying JRC when the normal stress is small enough. When the normal stress increases to a certain extent, the failure type of the interface will gradually change from shear failure to type II sliding failure with the increment of JRC.

Thick soft clay deposits which are generally located at the west and south coast of the Korean peninsula have complicated characteristics according to their orientation and formation history. Thus, several geotechnical problems could possibly occur when those soft clay deposits are used as foundations for marine structures. Deep cement mixing (DCM) method is one of the most widely used soft soil improvement method for various marine structures, nowadays. DCM method injects binders such as cement into the soft ground directly and mixes with the in-situ soil to improve the strength and other geotechnical properties sufficiently. However, the natural impacts induced by dynamic motions such as ocean waves, wind, typhoon, and tusnami give significant influences on the stability of marine structures and their underlaying foundations. Thus, the dynamic properties become important design criteria to insure the seismic stability of marine structures. In this study, the dynamic behavior of cemented Busan clay is evaluated. Laboratory unconfined compression test and resonant column test are performed on natural in-situ soil and cement mixed specimens to confirm the strength and strain-dependent dynamic behavior variation induced by cement mixing treatment. Results show that the unconfined compressive strength and shear modulus increase with curing time and cement content increment. Finally, the optimized cement mixing ratio for sufficient dynamic stability is obtained through this study. The results of this study are expected to be widely used to improve the reliability of seismic design for marine structures.

This study covers the nonlinear analysis of anchor head for high strength prestressing strand and presents necessary process in improving the performance of anchor head. The surface of wedge for strand is contacted to the surface of the wedge hole on anchor head when it is fitted into the wedge hole, and the contact condition changes according to the level of load applied through the wedge. In order to analyze detailed behavior, nonlinear material model and contact element were used in analysis. It was found from the analysis that the behavior of anchor head is affected by the interaction with the wedge contacted so that the wedge in FE model should have the same figure as the actual object. Circular array of wedge hole presents better stress distribution than layer array even though the small difference in maximum deformation. Increment of thickness of anchor head and distance of wedge hole also improve the performance of anchor head.
This study conducted the following experiment to examine change of biophysical and physical fitness function on combined exercise program in 20' female university students with obesity according to heights of insole. Obesity related biophysical function was measured by basal metabolism and percent body fat(% Fat) and health related physical fitness was measured by isokinetic strength of quadriceps femoris muscle, muscular endurance, flexibility and power on comparative analysis of pre, post exercise and each groups(0cm, 5cm, 9cm) in 36 female university students with obesity subject according to heights of insole. These result lead us to the conclusion that each group were statistically improved at isokinetic muscular strength of quadriceps femoris muscle and basal metabolism, but 5cm group compared with 0cm and 9cm group was more significant improvement. Consequently, combination exercise applying appropriate heights of insole would be lead to positive increment of muscular strength and basal metabolism.

Waste materials are being produced in huge quantities globally, and the usual practice is to dump them into legal or illegal landfills. Recycled tiles (RT) are being used in soil stabilisation which is considered as sustainable solution to reduce the amount of waste and solve the geotechnical problems. Although the stabilisation of soil using RT improved the soil properties, it could not achieve the standard values required for construction. Thus, this study uses 20% RT together with low cement content (2%) to stabilise soft soil. Series of consolidated undrained triaxial compression tests were conducted on untreated and RT-cement treated samples. Each test was performed at 7, 14, and 28 days curing period and 50, 100, and 200 kPa confining pressures. The results revealed an improvement in the undrained shear strength parameters (cohesion and internal frication angle) of treated specimens compared to the untreated ones. The cohesion and friction angle of the treated samples were increased with the increase in curing time and confining pressure. The peak deviator stress of treated samples increases with the increment of either the effective confining pressures or the curing period. Microstructural and chemical tests were performed on both untreated and RT-cement treated samples, which included field emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX). The results indicated the formation of cementation compounds such as calcium aluminium hydrate (C-A-H) within the treated samples. Consequently, the newly formed compounds were responsible for the improvement observed in the results of the triaxial tests. This research promotes the utilisation of RT to reduce the amount of cement used in soil stabilisation for cleaner planet and sustainable environment.
Grewia serrulata fibres were chemically treated with 3%, 6%, and 9% NaOH for the duration of 4 h. Additionally, the NaOH-treated fibres were also treated with 3 - (trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate (silane). Properties such as density and tensile strength of the treated fibres were compared against the untreated fibres. The highest density was obtained in the case of 9% NaOH + silane treated fibres, which was 26.47% higher than untreated fibres, implying effective removal of hemicellulose. Likewise, the highest tensile strength was also obtained in the case of 9% NaOH + silane treated fibres. The increment observed in the tensile strength of the natural fibres was related to the removal of impurities, hemicellulose, and stress-raisers as well as deposition over the fibre surface that smoothed it. These observations were further validated by estimating changes in chemical constituents due to chemical treatment along with characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis.
Objectives: This study analyzed the physical-chemical behavior of 2 bulk fill resin composites (BFCs; Filtek Bulk Fill [FBF], and Tetric-N-Ceram Bulk Fill [TBF]) used in 2- and 4-mm increments and compared them with a conventional resin composite (Filtek Z250). Materials and Methods: Flexural strength and elastic modulus were evaluated by using a 3-point bending test. Knoop hardness was measured at depth areas 0-1, 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 mm. The translucency parameter was measured using an optical spectrophotometer. Real-time polymerization kinetics was analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Results: Flexural strength was similar among the materials, while TBF showed lower elastic modulus (Z250: 6.6 ± 1.3, FBF: 6.4 ± 0.9, TBF: 4.3 ± 1.3). The hardness of Z250 was similar only between 0-1 mm and 1-2 mm. Both BFCs had similar hardness until 2-3 mm, and showed significant decreases at 3-4 mm (FBF: 33.45 ± 1.95 at 0-1 mm to 23.19 ± 4.32 at 3-4 mm, TBF: 23.17 ± 2.51 at 0-1 mm to 15.11 ± 1.94 at 3-4 mm). The BFCs showed higher translucency than Z250. The polymerization kinetics of all the materials were similar at 2-mm increments. At 4-mm, only TBF had a similar degree of conversion compared with 2 mm. Conclusions: The BFCs tested had similar performance compared to the conventional composite when used in up to 2-mm increments. When the increment was thicker, the BFCs were properly polymerized only up to 3 mm.
Based on an estimating method for post-cyclic strength and stiffness with cyclic triaxial tests proposed by one of the authors, cyclic Direct Simple Shear (DSS) tests were carried out to confirm whether the method can be adapted to DSS test on fine-grained soils: silty clay, plastic silt, and non-plastic silt. Results from cyclic and post-cyclic DSS tests were interpreted by a modified method as adopted for cyclic and post-cyclic triaxial tests. In particular, influence of plasticity index for fine-grained soils and initial static shear stress (ISSS) was emphasised. Findings obtained from the present study are: (i) liquefaction strength ratio of fine-grained soils decreases with decreasing plasticity index and increasing ISSS; (ii) plasticity index and ISSS did not markedly influence relation between equivalent cyclic stiffness and shear strain relations; (iii) the higher the plasticity index of fine-grained soils is, the less the strength ratio decreases with increment of a normalcies excess pore water pressure (NEPWP); (iv) stiffness ratio of plastic silt has large activity decrease rapidly with increasing excess pore water pressure; and (v) post-cyclic strength and stiffness results from DSS tests agree well with those predicted by the method modified from a procedure used for triaxial test results.
