  • Providing quality of service (QoS) guarantees over wireless link requires thorough understanding and quantification of the interactions among the traffic source, the wireless channel, and the underlying error control mechanisms. In this paper, we account for such interactions in a network-layer model that we use to investigate the delay performance of a wireless channel. We consider a single ON/OFF traffic stream transported over a wireless link. The capacity of this link fluctuates according to a fluid version of Gilbert-Elliot's model. We derive the packet delay distribution via two different approaches: uniformization and Laplace transform. Numerical aspects of both approaches are compared. The delay distribution is further used to quantify the wireless effective bandwidth under a given delay guarantee. Numerical results and simulations are used to verify the adequacy of our analysis and to study the impact of error control and bandwidth allocation on the packet delay performance. • Recently, the qualities of the call and QoS of data service in mobile wireless IP networks inclusive of internet wired networks are very challenging issues. IntServ, DiffServ and MPLS model for supporting QoS in wired networks are representative models which are investigated generally up to now. While, MIPv4(Mobile IPv4) and MIPv6 are proposed to support mobility management for mobile wireless internet networks. But, MIPv4 and MIPv6 based UDP and TCP/IP protocol have many issues to be solved like efficient QoS and frequent handover management. In this paper, we propose a efficient management platform to support seamless data services and end-to-end QoS management in IP-based wireless mobility environments using transport layer protocol, SCTP which support multi-homing and multi-streaming. We used SCTP protocol and IntServ technology for end-to-end communications to support multi-homing and seamless QoS management in the IP-based mobile wireless networks.

  • As the number of medical disputes regarding nurses has increased after medical disputes have increase, there is a need for a study on it. However, the legal relationship between nurses and patients has not yet been analyzed. Recently, the role and function of nurses are expanded according to the development of the science of nursing; moreover their activity and limitation of responsibility are also expanded. For this reason, the medical disputes regarding nurses have been increasing. However, the majority of these kind of dispute are just passed over because their practice is usually considered to be a mere action to assist doctor's role. In addition, nurse practice is not a secondary action of doctor's role, but forms part of a medical treatment. Of course, nurses handle many secondary tasks after doctors finish their medical treatment. But this is only part of the whole tasks of nurses. Furthermore, the general details of their medical treatment are not different from those of doctors because they also belong to the medical service personnel. Considering these features of nurse and the medical condition in South Korea, their task is becoming increasingly developed and specialized and they are also establishing their own field. With this stream of times, there is a growing interest in enacting a Nursing Practice Act, in other words, the independent law on nurse for the sake of patient safety and national health promotion. Then, their responsibility will distinctly be expanded as much more. That is, the time that nurses practice their medical care by following doctors' order and also pass over their responsibility to doctors is closed. Thus, this study examines the features and responsibilities of nursing practice, and discusses an institutional framework to efficiently cope with the legal disputes between nurses and patients. It aims to throw light on the decision making on nurse-patient disputes in future.

  • In this paper, we designed an embedded audio video bridging (AVB) platform based on IEEE 802.1BA for real-time multimedia transmission in smart-car, smart-home, smart-theater, and then evaluated a performance of the implemented platform by analysis of IEEE 802.1AS (time synchronization protocol) and IEEE 802.1Qat (stream reservation protocol). Especially, the AVB Layer-2 protocol of MRP(Multiple Registration Protocol), MMAP(Multicast Address Acquisition Protocol), IEEE 1722, 1722.1 etc. was and implemented by linux based operating system. It is shown by interoperability tests with commercial products that the implemented platform transmits real-time multichannel AV data over AVB networks for Multichannel Multimedia Transmission.

  • One of the important issues for multimedia communications over ATM netowrks is efficient use of net-work resources since transmitting video at low cost requires high utilization of channel bandwidth. In this paper, we propose an effective bandwidth estimation scheme for MPEG sources in ATM networks. It has been known difficult to allocate effective transmission bandwidth to MPEG sources due to its bursty charactersitics. The MPEG traffic stream can bemodeled using five traffic parameters:service rate, burst load ratio, interburst load ratio, burst period, and interburst period. Using these parameters, a transmission bandwidth for each source can be estimated, and the estimated bandwidth is applied synchronously to reduce the queue size in a buffer. For a simple network modelof a high speed link that multiplexes a number of virtual-circuit connections, simulations on adaptive bandwidth allocation were performed, and the results show that the queueing delay is significantly reduced, when compared to a fixed bandwidth allocation.

  • In this paper we discuss the effect of the delay limit and the packet size related to the quality of service on a VoIP system using the Internet. We also provide a guideline to determining the optimal packet size of the voice data for a given delay limit. Empirical studies are done with two personal computers connected through the packet switched public IP network. The sender encodes the voice signal from the microphone to get PCM and ADPCM data and sends the data to the receiver using UDP packets. The receiver plays the reconstructed voice from the stream with lost and delayed packets. The quality of the reconstructed voice is evaluated offline by the MNB (Measuring Normal Block) method using the data acquired from the both sides. The result shows that under the delay limit of 100ms for 40Kbps, 32Kbps and l6Kbps of ADPCM data, the minimum packet size should be 300bytes, 400bytes and 600bytes respectively and the maximum packet size should be l200bytes commonly for the best quality of voice.

  • Recently, the demands for real-time service and multimedia data are rapidly increasing. There are significant redundancies between header fields both within the same packet header and in consecutive packets belonging to the same packet stream. And there are many overheads in using the current UDP/IP protocol. Header compression is considered to enhance the transmission efficiency for the payload of small size. By sending the static field information only once initially and by utilizing dependencies and predictability for other fields, the header size can be significantly reduced for most packets. This work describes an implementation for header compression of the headers of IP/UDP protocols to reduce the overhead on Ethernet network. Typical UDP/IP Header packets can be compressed down to 7 bytes and the header compression system is designed and implemented in Linux environment. Using the Header compression system designed between a server and clients provides have the advantage of effective data throughput in network. Since the minimum packet size in Ethernet is 64 bytes, the amount of reduction by header compression in practical chatting environment was 6.6 bytes.

  • The DAB system was designed to provide CD quality audio and data services for fixed, portable and mobile applications with the required BER below $10^{-4}$. However for the T-DMB system with the video service of MPEG-4 stream, BER should go down $10^{-8}$ by adding FEC blocks which consist of the Reed-Solomon (RS) encoder/decoder and convolutional interleaver/deinterleaver. In this paper we propose two types of turbo coded T-DMB system without altering the puncturing procedure and puncturing vectors defined in the standard T-DMB system for compatibility. One(Type 1) can replace the existing RS code, convolutional interleaver and RCPC code by a turbo code and the other one (Type 2) can substitute the existing RCPC code by a turbo code. Simulation results show that two new turbo coded systems are able to yield considerable performance gain after just 2 iterations. Type 2 system is better than type 1 but the amount of performance improvement is small.

  • This study identifies major features in water supply and introduces important factors in water services based on the information from data mining analysis of water quantity and water pressure measured from sensors. It also suggests more accurate methods using multiple regression analysis and neural network in predicting short term prediction of water demand in water service. A small block of a county is selected for the data collection and tests. There isa water demand on business such as public offices and hospitalstoo in this area. Real stream data from sensors in this area is collected. Among 2,728 data sets collected, 2,632 sets are used for modelling and 96 sets are used for testing. The shows that neural network is better than multiple regression analysis in their prediction performance.
