광강도형 광섬유 센서를 이용한 복합재 적충판의 피로손상 감시 (Monitoring of Fatigue Damage of Composite Laminates Using Embedded Intensity-Based Optical Fiber Sensors)

  • In this study, a technique for monitoring of fatigue damage of composite laminates by measuring the stiffness change using embedded intensity-based optical fiber sensors was investigated. Firstly, the underlying measurement principle and structure of intensity-based sensors and then a simple stiffness conversion process was explained. The monitoring technique was evaluated by fatigue tests of composite laminates with an embedded intensity-based sensor. From the test results, the response of the intensity-based sensor showed good correlation with that of surface mounted extensometer. Therefore, it can be concluded that the intensity-based sensors have good potential for the monitoring of fatigue damage of composite structures under fatigue loading. In addition, it could be confirmed that the intensity-based sensors have higher resistance to fatigue than the commercial electrical strain gauge.

아스팔트 콘크리트 포장 변형률계 매설 방법 개선에 관한 연구 (Improvement of Field Installation Method for Asphalt Concrete Pavement Strain Gauge)

  • 국내의 포장 재료와 교통 및 기후조건이 반영되는 포장설계법 개발을 위한 연구가 진행중에 있으며, 이를 위해 실제 교통량 및 기후조건이 반영되고 이에 따른 포장의 거동을 모니터링 할 수 있는 대규모의 현장시험시설로 시험도로를 건설하였다. 시험도로 아스팔트 포장구간은 15개의 다양한 두께 및 재료를 가진 단면들로 구성되어 있다. 이러한 단면들을 평가하기 위해 포장체 내에 다양한 계측기들이 매설되어 있다. 계측기 매설에 있어서 핵심 요소는 매설 위치의 정확성과 장기적인 생존율 및 내구성이다. 외국의 시험사례를 보면, 이런 정확성과 내구성은 매설 방법에 크게 영향을 받는다. 이에 본 연구에서는 2000년도부터 3년여 동안 일반적인 계측기 매설 방법인 마운드, 블록아웃. 트렌치컷에 대해 시험시공을 수행하였으며 시험시공 결과를 분석하여 시험도로에 적용하였다. 위치의 정확성, 생존의 안전성, 시공성, 재료의 균질성 측면에서 시험시공 결과를 평가한 결과 블록아웃이 가장 효율적인 방법으로 나타났다. 그러나, 표층의 경우 블록아웃에 부적절한 층두께 등의 특성을 감안하여 마운드 방법을 사용하는 것으로 결정하였다. 아스팔트 기층과 중간층의 매설에는 블록아웃을, 표층의 매설에는 마운드를 사용하는 것으로 결정했다. 2003년 9월 3일부터 11월 18일까지 2달 여에 걸쳐 총 374개의 아스팔트 포장 변형률계를 시험도로에 매설하였다. 계측값 분석 결과, 마운드의 경우 6.3%, 블록아웃은 2.5%의 계측기가 매설 전후의 계측값 변화가 일반적인 계측기 사양 범위를 초과하는 것으로 나타났다. 생존율의 경우 매설후 손실된 계측기는 2개로 99.5%의 높은 생존율을 나타났다.

  • In this paper, we concern for development of precise measuement system for civil structure by using one chip microprocessor based on communication system. The datalogger is developed by using 80C196KC microprocessor. It has RF communication modul and data acquisition function for several kinds of sensors such as load cell, tilt-meter, strain gauge, tension meter, themocouple and so on. The data is acquisited by datalogger is sent to a main server which is located at central monitoring office. The server has a function suppervising several data points located at civil structures, it analyzes the data and shows the data graphically. The effectiveness of the developed system is proven through experimental results by an application for the bridge of Nakdong river edge in Busan, Korea.

  • GPS carrier phase is supposed to provide the tool for the most precise 3 dimensional positioning information. The FAST, an OTF technique, has been developed by the GPS System Laboratory of Konkuk University, and has been shown several millimeter level accuracy in root-mean-square sense. This OTF's high precision positioning capability provides an adequate tool of low frequency vibration monitoring of large structures. In this paper, the possibility of vibration measurement of a cantilever beam using FAST has been tested, which is supposed to be extended to more practical applications. The results of the experiment have been compared with those by a strain gage and laser sensor.

  • This study was conducted to develop the on-line monitoring system for plant growth responses. The system consisted of two parts. One system was the measuring system and the other was its controlling system. The established measuring systems were the ultrasonic wave sensor driver for height of plant, the potentiometer for diameter of plant stem, and the weighing system with strain gage application for plant weight. Also, computer program for measurement and controlling was developed, and the whole system was tested by the fabricated plant, and the actual plant growth responses were monitored by the system. When monitoring the actual plant growth responses, even the small amount of plant growth resposes could be measured by the system within tolerable error ranges.

  • This paper present a novel 6-axis robotic base platform with force/moment sensing. The robotic base platform is made up of six loadcells connecting the moving plate to the fixed plate by spherical joints at the both ends of loadcells. The statics relation is derived, the robotic base platform prototype and the loadcell measurement system are developed. The force/moment calibrations in joint and Cartesian spaces are performed. The algorithm to detect external force applied at a working robot is derived, and using a 6-DOF robot mounted on the robotic base platform, force/moment measurement experiments have been performed.

Damage detection for beam structures based on local flexibility method and macro-strain measurement

  • Many vibration-based global damage detection methods attempt to extract modal parameters from vibration signals as the main structural features to detect damage. The local flexibility method is one promising method that requires only the first few fundamental modes to detect not only the location but also the extent of damage. Generally, the mode shapes in the lateral degree of freedom are extracted from lateral vibration signals and then used to detect damage for a beam structure. In this study, a new approach which employs the mode shapes in the rotary degree of freedom obtained from the macro-strain vibration signals to detect damage of a beam structure is proposed. In order to facilitate the application of mode shapes in the rotary degree of freedom for beam structures, the local flexibility method is modified and utilized. The proposed rotary approach is verified by numerical and experimental studies of simply supported beams. The results illustrate potential feasibility of the proposed new idea. Compared to the method that uses lateral measurements, the proposed rotary approach seems more robust to noise in the numerical cases considered. The sensor configuration could also be more flexible and customized for a beam structure. Primarily, the proposed approach seems more sensitive to damage when the damage is close to the supports of simply supported beams.

수소 연료전지 개스킷의 면압에 대한 유한요소 해석 (Finite Element Analysis of Surface Pressure of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Gasket)

  • The optimal strain energy function was obtained by comparing the results of the analysis using the strain energy functions obtained by uniaxial tensile and equibiaxial tensile tests on gasket materials used in hydrogen fuel cells, with the results measured using a contact pressure measurement sensor. At this time, even when only the uniaxial tensile test was conducted, Yeoh could obtain the most accurate results even by conducting only the uniaxial tensile test. Using this, an analysis of the cross section of the gasket used in stack confirmed a safe contact pressure and no deformation on the separator. In the future, research will be conducted to verify the gasket durability by reliability evaluation.

지중온도에 의한 사면의 거동 예측 (Estimation of Slope Behavior by Soil Temperature)

  • 지반의 풍화, 지하수의 유출입 및 대기온도의 변화 등, 사면 내 토립자의 물성을 변화시킬 수 있는 요인에 대한 영향과 이로 인한 사면의 파괴면을 예측할 수 있다면, 사면에 대한 장기 안정성을 확보하는데 도움을 줄 것이다. 사면의 거동에 영향을 미치는 여러 요인들 가운데, 지중 온도의 변화는 지하수 및 토립자의 물성을 변화시켜, 사면의 붕괴에 많은 영향을 끼치므로 사면내의 온도의 변화구간과 항온 구간을 구분할 수 있다면, 사면의 가상 파괴면을 예측할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 사면 현장에 설치된 상용계측기 및 광섬유를 이용한 계측기(FBG Sensor)의 사면 계측 데이터를 바탕으로, 사면 보강재의 변형에 의한 사면의 가상활동 파괴면의 추정과 지중온도가 변하지 않는 깊이인 항온심도의 결정, 그리고 이들의 연관성을 검토하였다. 본 연구의 검토결과, 사면 보강재에 의해 결정된 사면의 가상 파괴면과 지반 내 항온심도가 거의 일치하였으며, 지하수의 유무가 지반내 항온심도를 결정하는 중요한 요인임을 알 수 있었다.

탄소섬유의 게이지 계수 측정 및 센서 응용 (Measurement of a gauge factor of a carbon fiber and its application to sensors)

  • In this paper we report on the electrical properties of carbon fiber which is an attractive material for strain gauges and can also be applied to resonating micro sensors. The carbon fibers used in this research was manufactured from polyactylonitrile (PAN). The fabricated carbon fibers had about $10\;{\mu}m$ in length and several centimeters in length. We employed a micro structure to measure electrical properties of the carbon fiber. The measured electrical resistivity of the carbon fibers were about $3{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ A gauge factor of the carbon fiber is also observed with the same system and it was about 400, depending on the structure of the carbon fiber. For the sensor applications of the carbon fiber, it is selectively placed between the gap of Al electrodes using a dielectrophoresis method. When the carbon fiber is resonated by a piezoelectric ceramic, resistance change at a variety of resonance mode was observed through an electrical system.
