The purpose of the thesis is to answer the question on how the visual image content, being the original content, should be adapted to and represented as a spatial content. The thesis focuses on adaptation as the key in the conversion process of visual image content to a themed space. There are many published studies dealing with storytelling, adaptation from books to movies and TV shows, or from movies to games and vice versa. On the contrary, when it comes to adaptation from visual image content to spatial content, noticeably few studies were done on the method, and fewer studies view adaptation as the prior step of storytelling. This study first defines adaptation, and then applies the methods of Gianetty and Dudley which is further incorporated into the conversion of visual image content into a themed space. It then turns the attention to the characteristics of themed spaces. A case study highlights that a themed space is a spatial representation of the story, image and action in the visual image content, and analyze the type of adaptation made. The study results draws two conclusions; adaptation must be carried out prior to the storytelling of the spatial content; and opposed to a third-person view of the visual image content, the main factor in a themed space is first-hand experience. Thus, the thesis suggests that conversion from visual image content to themed spaces are not merely imitative but is a full range of recreation of a new content. It is expected that more detailed analyses on the particulars will lead to feasible outcome on implementing various methods of adaptation and bring about effective conversions between the visual image contents and themed spaces.
Recently, there have been increasing attempts to pursue and express feelings such as sensibilities, emotions, and impressiveness in commercial spaces. One of such methods is to apply 'storytelling' to space designs. Applicability of storytelling to a space suggests that the contents of a space can be expressed through various mediums. Portraying events and situations through a single time continuity of a story is referred to as 'narrative'. The movement of users and sequence of contents are determined by a narrative. It provides different storytelling and a sense of place to each space through various roles, such as wide association, engraving, and image formation. A narrative can lead users to engage in different perceptions and behaviors even in spaces with the same content. Thus, this study is intended to examine the impact of space marketing in line with design narratives, assuming that narratives of commercial space designs will influence the formation of brand identity. The research methods are as follows. First, the definition of narratives in space design was established by examining narrative architectures. Second, design analysis tools for commercial spaces were established from the perspective of narratives through preceding studies. Third, the design narratives of different shops under the same brand were comparatively analyzed through a case study. To carry out a case study, a commercial space of 'O'sulloc' was selected, and its brand identity was studied from the narrative standpoint. The case study involved interior designs of 7 road shops of 'O'sulloc.' Among the 7 road shops, two of them with the biggest difference in design narratives were selected, and an observation survey was done on the users as a second analysis. Through the observation survey, actual design narrative experience was analyzed in 4 steps of introduction, development, turn, and conclusion. The findings are as follows. The design method of each shop varied, and different design elements were emphasized. Among various elements, the ones that reflect the brand identity of 'O'sulloc' the best were logo, product, and shape. During the process of narratives, the characteristics of each shop and user recognition and behavior varied depending on the degree of emphasis on a particular element. It suggests that space design narratives can influence the formation of brand identity. This study provides ideal directions of developing space designs necessary for forming brand identity from the standpoint of Korean traditional culture modernization. Future studies could discuss the economic feasibility of such designs.
'Reboot' and 'Homage' are using as creative techniques in traditional storytelling media fields such as movies or dramas, but the possibility of expanding the transmedia story world has not yet been presented. This study was written to present a new concept of transmedia story world expansion type using the 'Reboot' and 'Homage' methods. 'Reboot' and 'Homage' are typical storytelling methods of K-POP idol groups that need to develop content. I selected , , and , which have built their story world, and examined both the narrative creation section and the marketing application section. The result of the study is as follows. First, EXO is an example of a reboot case. They set the original set as 'past' and insert the new storylines. Second, BTS is an example of a character's reboot. They built a story world by paralleling 'Idol BTS' and 'Character BTS'. Third, Wanna One is an example of the original story world's homage. They reorganize the story world of and attracting the attention of the existing audience. Fourth, BTS is an example of other media homage which reinterprets the meaning of BTS characters and story world by using the meaning of classic works.
VR is a dynamic image simulation technology with very high information density. Among them, spatial depth, temporality, and realism bring an unprecedented sense of immersion to the experience. However, due to its high information density, the information contained in it is very easy to be manipulated, creating an illusion of objectivity. Users need guidance to help them interpret the high density of dynamic image information. Just like setting up navigation interfaces and interactivity in games, interactivity in virtual reality is a way to interpret virtual content. At present, domestic research on VR content is mainly focused on technology exploration and visual aesthetic experience. However, there is still a lack of research on interactive storytelling design, which is an important part of VR content creation. In order to explore a better interactive storytelling model in virtual reality content, this paper analyzes the interactive storytelling features of the VR animated version of <Wolves in the walls> through the methods of literature review and case study. We find that the following rules can be followed when creating VR content: 1. the VR environment should fully utilize the advantages of free movement for users, and users should not be viewed as mere observers. The user's sense of presence should be fully considered when designing interaction modules. Break down the "fourth wall" to encourage audience interaction in the virtual reality environment, and make the hot media of VR "cool". 2.Provide developer-driven narrative in the early stages of the work so that users are not confused about the ambiguous world situation when they first enter a virtual environment with a high degree of freedom. 1.Unlike some games that guide users through text, you can guide them through a more natural interactive approach that adds natural dialog between the user and story characters (NPC). Also, since gaze guidance is an important part of story progression, you should set up spatial scene user gaze guidance elements within it. For example, you can provide eye-following cues, motion cues, language cues, and more. By analyzing the interactive storytelling features and innovations of the VR animation <Wolves in the walls>, I hope to summarize the main elements of interactive storytelling from its content. Based on this, I hope to explore how to better showcase interactive storytelling in virtual reality content and provide thoughts on future VR content creation.

With the growing shift from traditional educational approaches and studying to the more digital classroom, using electronic textbooks and digital native's demand, there is a growing need to develop new methods for learn Kanji characters for children. The purpose of this study is to help children learn the basic Kanji by using stop motion and block methods, and approaching the basic Kanji character education with a more innovative and interactive smart phone APP. In the development of this smart phone App for children's Kanji character education proposed in this study, 100 basic Kanji characters for children are selected. These 100 characters are required for the stop motion animation production, where each selected Kanji is created as a stop-motion animation utilizing a variety of techniques, such as storytelling, to better engage children. The intelligent App is designed with image recognition technology, so that in the learning process children take a picture for the assembled block using their smart phone, the APP then recognizes whether it is assembled correctly, and then plays an animation corresponding to the assembled Kanji character.
The main objective of this study is to explore methods to generate and develop its design concept of the discord generated due to this by deeply considering the existing design concept of a new town or site planning. In particular, in case when designers participate in a process of planning new town, this study aims to reveal methods generating design strategy and basic ideas for designing street furniture through cases study of projects by understanding and analyzing concept of overall space planning and by developing direction for deployment of specific designs. First, further concepts of the space planning, which decides overall flow of visual design concept of street furniture, is extracted through analyses of basic concepts of space design with doing Focused Group Interview among designers and planners. Then, by applying 3V Design Process, alternatives of the concept generation are suggested through methods of storytelling and visual language under the two approach methods of verbalization stage and visualization stage. Also its process were explored through suggestion of designs by developing each idea of the respective concepts into specific design vocabulary.
Walt Disney World focused on Theme opened in 1955. Many Theme Parks such as Everland had opened in Korea. And also Public Theme Parks were established on purpose of finding cultural identity by province government. Most of the Public Theme Parks made special Theme Images to revive the image characteristics and be stronger public theme. But these creativities of the theme images are struggling by the lack technical ability as well. This study derived several problems from the existing research and current issues and found out the future direction sought. Thus, the public theme images are to lead marketing and operating of public theme park by using storytelling and high tech, and look forward to getting position of the window to the future. In future, we must pay attention to study for creation methods and marketing, and plugging in new technology on public theme images. Continuing studies will support to enlarge the identity and educate traditional history through public theme images and park.
New design method has been required for web designers to grasp the proper emotion, impression, and feeling of a web site and reflect these elements in web design. It is certain that such a new methodology can be a useful design tool, although web designers have only relied on their intuition and experience to induce users to perceive specific emotion of web sites. In this study, Kansei Engineering Type Ⅰ (Nagamachi, 2002 and Park, 2000) method was applied to develop the methodology. One hundred thirty six web sites believed to convey emotions effectively were first selected by recommendation of professional web designers and twenty two web sites were finally chosen and evaluated using questionnaire. The web sites were then objectively and quantitatively assessed by measuring the degree of utilization of the design elements, balance, overall density, and homogeneity. We examined the cause-and-effect between the results of emotional and quantitative analysis by multiple regression and introduced the design methodology based on the examination. The research method and procedures applied to this study would be applicable to design studies related to the emotional inducement.
Smart phone games market is getting bigger. In this circumstance, the Experience game focusing user's activity is popular among the smart phone games because the user can be easily absorbed into the game and felt more sense of unity with the game. there are several studies about game storytelling which focus on story visualization or effective methods of game design, but the study of game storytelling connected with user's activity is not entirely satisfactory. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce a system for user's activity visualization of the experience game for smart phone. To achieve this, firstly, we show the model which is about the overall configuration of experience game for smart phone. secondly, the detail configurations of the overall game model is introduced. lastly, standing on the model, we introduce a simulation model and a developed program.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the story-retelling structure of tablet PC-based applications that designed to help infants to create stories. Owing to the popularization and the usability of smart devices, infants have become from content consumers to creators who reconstruct stories in creative ways, based on the stories they heard. In those participatory process, infants experience enjoying stories independently and expanding the meaning of texts. Story-retelling is an adequate methodology that cultivates creativity, expressiveness, and literacy ability to infant. Consequently, this study investigates three types of story-retelling in , , and , and searches structure elements and methods of story-retelling in integrated approach. In conclusion, the story-retelling applications that provide 'creative gap' have educational value, because they allow infants to demonstrate imagination by filling in the gap and to realize the rule of stories.
