Human body has a complete left and right symmetry structure, and the left and right balance by Yin and Yang. When the balance is broken, the left and right Meridian becomes abnormal condition. Acupuncture is a kind of therapy to recover from energy unbalance of the left and right Meridian to a new balance condition. In the study, we observed the electric potential along the stomach meridian (ST) in order to verify the energy consensus phenomenon by transportation of bio-energy between operator and subject during acupuncture. The acupuncture effects on opposite meridian site were investigated by comparing the electric potentials between the right and left ST sites. Meridian electrical potentials (MEPs) between operator and subject were simultaneously generated during the acupuncture and the polarity of MEPs was opposite. The results might imply the bio-energy transportation between operator and subject. In addition, we observed three different patterns of MEPs on both ST sites which might represent the condition of the related meridians because meridians in the body are organically interconnected.
The purpose of this study is to arrange the acupuncture therapy on the asthma from the oriental medical literature. The results obtained as follows. 1. The cause of the asthma is the intrinsic factors and the over-sensitive reactions. The decreased function of the lung and the kidney are chronically affected to the asthma. 2. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to suggest the clinical characteristics and risk factors of facial palsy from the perspective of Korean Medicine. Methods: Medical records of 856 patients, who visited the Korean Medicine hospital with facial palsy from 2004 to 2019, were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical characteristics of facial palsy were suggested by figuring out the distribution of age, sex, occupation, onset season, obesity, modes, signs, symptoms, past and family history. Results: By gender, there were more males (54.6%), and the most common age groups were in their 50s (27.4%) and 40s (23.6%). As for the occupation, unemployed (27.7%) and service and sales workers (14.6%) were the most common, and the onset season was the most common in winter (28.9%). The most common clinical characteristics were overwork (33.0%), mental stress (24.8%), and exposure to cold (19.3%) in modes, 'none' (64.3%), postauricular pain (33.2%) in signs, postauricular pain (26.9%), parageusia (14.8%) in symptoms. Hypertension and diabetes were the most common in both past and family history. In particular, the obesity rate of the subjects (59.8%) was much higher than that of Koreans (32.8%). Conclusions: Based on the historical Korean Medicine literature and the results of this study, it is suggested that overwork, stress, exposure to cold, and obesity are identified as risk factors for facial palsy. Furthermore, dysfunction of the stomach meridian is thought to contribute to the cause of facial palsy.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to search acupuncture & moxibustion treatment on hemafecia. Methods : We search thirty-seven oriental medical literatures related to hemafecia and arrange the articles according to the etiological cause, pathogenesis, acupuncture & moxibustion treatment. Results : 1. Hemafecia is mainly caused by intrinsic factors such as inadequate diet, habitual drinking, indiscreet sex and others. 2. Hemafecia is mainly due to the intestinal febrile state, but sometimes due to the infirmity of whole body energy including digestive system. 3. Governor Vessel Meridian, Bladder Meridian, Spleen Meridian and Stomach Meridian are frequently used for acupuncture & moxibustion treatment on hemafecia. 4. B57, GV1 are most frequently used for acupuncture & moxibustion treatment on hemafecia. 5. CV12, CV6, S36 are most frequently used for moxibustion treatment on hemafecia. 6. Acupuncture points are mainly distributed throughout the low back, lower abdomen and lower limb.
Objectives & Methods : This study was to study etiology and pathologic mechanism and to study acupuncture and moxibustion treatment for GU-CHANG. I've got compared and analyzed 42 kinds of book since Nei Jing(內經). Results and Conclusion : 1. The etiologies are heat of heart and spleen, insufficiency of middle -warm energy, deficiency of yin lead to hyperactivity of fire. 2. The meridians of acupuncture points which were used much for GU-CHANG were Conception Vessel Meridian, Stomach Meridian and Bladder Meridian. 3. The effects of electroacupuncture on gastric motility in dogs were investigated in this study. The acupoints used in this experiment were Zu San Li (ST-36), Feng Long (ST-40), Jie Xi (ST-41), and Li Dui (ST-45) which belong to stomach meridian, Wei Shu (BL-21) which belongs to urinary bladder meridian, and Zhong Wan (CV-12) which belongs to conception vessel meridian. The animals were stimulated with 2-4 volt and 5 Hz for 20 min. Electroacupuncture at Zu San Li and Wei Shu acupoint increased the gastric motility, but Zhong Wan decreased the motility. There were no change in gastric movement after electrostimulation at Feng Long, Jie Xi and Li Dui acupoints. It was considered that electroacupuncture at Zu San Li and Wei Shu acupoints to promote the gastric movement, and at Zhong Wan acupoint to depress the movement might be effective in veterinary practice.

Objectives : The aim of this study is to summarize and compare acupuncture points used for dental disorder in the classics with those used in recent clinical trials. Methods : We searched the data for acupuncture points used and rationale of acupuncture in dentistry. Following two sources were searched: 1) seven Classics of traditional medicine and 2) clinical trials through Pubmed from January 2000 to March 2013 with no language restriction. Results : Dental pain was the most common disorder in the dentistry section of the Classics of traditional medicine. We found many similarities of acupuncture points used between literatures and clinical trials. From the meridian perspective, large intestine meridian(LI), stomach meridian(ST), triple energizer meridian(TE), and gallbladder meridian(GB) were frequently used in the Classics of traditional medicine and the clinical trials. From the acupuncture point perspective, acupuncture points were selected according to syndrome. The specific points such as five transport points, source points, and connecting points were also used. In the clinical trials, combination of acupuncture points usually consisted adjacent points and distant points. Among them, LI4 was used in all of the studies included in this review. Conclusions : For well-designed clinical trial, appropriate intervention is essential. To establish appropriate acupuncture treatment, we have to suggest reasoning for treatment based on literature and/or expert consensus. Our review only focused on pain relief in dentistry and had many limitations. Further studies based on the literatures such as the Classics of traditional medicine are required to ensure the rationale of acupuncture treatments in various dental disorders.
