  • The major objective of the present study is to extend the applications of inverse analysis to more realistic engineering fields with a complex combustion process rather than the traditional simple heat-transfer problems. In order to do this, the unknown initial mass fractions of $CH_4/O_2$ are estimated from the temperature measurement data by inverse analysis in the practical diffusion-controlled turbulent combustion problem. In order to ensure efficient inverse analysis, the repulsive particle swarm optimization (RPSO) method, which belongs to the class of stochastic evolutionary global optimization methods, is implemented as an inverse solver. Based on this study, it is expected that useful information can be obtained when inverse analysis is used in the diagnosis, design, or optimization of real combustion systems involving unknown parameters.

  • Genetic algorithm is well known for stochastic searching method in imitating natural phenomena. In recent times, studies have been conducted in improving conventional evolutionary computation speed and promoting precision. This paper presents an approach to optimize PID controller gains with the application of modified Genetic Algorithm using Support Vector Machine (SVMGA). That is, we aim to explore optimum parameters of PID controller using SVMGA. Simulation results are given to compare to those of tuning methods, based on Simple Genetic Algorithm and Ziegler-Nicholas tuning method.

  • Artificial intelligence with a sufficient amount of realistic big data in certain applications has been demonstrated to play an important role in designing new materials or in manufacturing high-quality products. To reduce cracks in ceramic products using machine learning, it is desirable to utilize big data in recently developed data-driven optimization schemes. However, there is insufficient big data for ceramic processes. Therefore, we developed a numerical algorithm to make "virtual" manufacturing data sets using indirect methods such as computer simulations and image processing. In this study, a numerical algorithm based on the random walk was demonstrated to generate images of cracks by adjusting the conditions of the random walk process such as the number of steps, changes in direction, and the number of cracks.

  • This paper presents the optimum design of the slit type linear induction motor(LIM). For the analysis of the slit type LIM, as the boundary problem, the equivalent circuit is composed from the analysis method given the slit pitch boundary condition. Using the deterministic method and the stochastic method among the optimization methods, each of the optimum design variables is derived. The analysis result by the proposed method is compared with the experimental result.

  • This paper summarizes a study for the modal analysis and model updating conducted using the monitoring data obtained from the Canton Tower of 610 m tall, which was established as an international benchmark problem by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Modal properties of the tower were successfully identified using frequency domain decomposition and stochastic subspace identification methods. Finite element model updating using the measurement data was further performed to reduce the modal property differences between the measurements and those of the finite element model. Over-fitting during the model updating was avoided by using an optimization scheme with a regularization term.

  • In this paper, we consider the optimal control problem based on Discrete Event Dynamic Systems(DEDS) in the Temporal Logic framework(TLF) which have studied for a convenient modeling technique. The TLF is enhanced with objective functions(event cost indices) and a measurement space is also defined. Our research goal is the design of the optimal controller for DEDSs. This procedure could be guided by the heuristic search methods. For the heuristic search, we suggested the Stochastic Ruler algorithm, instead of the A algorithm with difficulties as following; the uniqueness of solutions, the computational complexity and how to select a heuristic function. This SR algorithm is used for solving the optimal problem. An example is shown to illustrate our results.

  • A DEDS is a system whose states change in response to the occurence of events from a predefined event set. In this paper, we consider the optimal control and reasoning problem for Discrete Event Systems(DES) in the Temporal Logic Framework(TEL) which have been recnetly defined. The TLE is enhanced with objective functions(event cost indices) and a measurement space is alos deined. A sequence of event which drive the system form a give initial state to a given final state is generated by minimizing a cost functioin index. Our research goal is the reasoning of optimal trajectory and the design of the optimal controller for DESs. This procedure could be guided by the heuristic search methods. For the heuristic search, we suggested the Stochastic Ruler algorithm, instead of the A algorithm with difficulties as following ; the uniqueness of solutions, the computational complexity and how to select a heuristic function. This SR algorithm is used for solving the optimal problem. An example is shown to illustrate our results.

  • This raper presents a new optimization method combining the genetic algorithm with the response surface method for the optimum design of a Brushless Direct Current motor. The method utilizes a regression function approximating an objective function and the window moving and zoom-in method so as to complement disadvantages of both the genetic algorithm and response surface method. The results verify that the proposed method is powerful and effective in reducing cogging torque by optimizing only a few decisive design factors compared with the conventional stochastic methods.

  • Despite many successful spectral clustering algorithm (based on the spectral decomposition of Laplacian(1) or stochastic matrix(2) ) there are several unsolved problems. Most spectral clustering Problems are based on the normalized of algorithm(3) . are close to the classical graph paritioning problem which is NP-hard problem. To get good solution in polynomial time. it needs to establish its convex form by using relaxation. In this paper, we apply a novel optimization technique. semidefinite programming(SDP). to the unsupervised clustering Problem. and present a new multiple Partitioning method. Experimental results confirm that the Proposed method improves the clustering performance. especially in the Problem of being mixed with non-compact clusters compared to the previous multiple spectral clustering methods.
