In this study, the behavioral characteristics of the fill dam were analyzed during water level fluctuations through a numerical analysis model, and the reservoir safety management plan was prepared. The variation in plastic deviatoric strain, horizontal displacement, stress path, pore water pressure, etc., due to elevation of water level in the upper and lower sides of shell and core were analyzed using numerical analysis software, viz. GTS NX and LIQCA. The analysis results manifest that as the water level in the dam body increases rapidly, the pore water pressure and displacement also increase quickly. It was found that the elevation of the water level causes an increase in pore water pressure in the dam body as well as an increase in the saturation of the dam body and decreased effective stress. It is considered that this type of dam behavior can be the cause of the reduction of strength and stiffness of the dam. Also, it is assumed that the accumulated plastic deviatoric strain due to the deformation of the dam body caused by water infiltration causes an increase in displacement. Based on these experimental results and the results of analyses of the existing reservoir safety diagnosis techniques, an improvement plan for dam safety diagnosis and evaluation criteria was proposed, and these results can be used as primary data while revising dam safety diagnosis guidelines.

Concrete structures gradually age due to deterioration of materials or excess loads and environmental factors, and their performance decreases, affecting the usability and safety of structures. Although external tension construction methods are widely used among the reinforcement methods of old bridges, it is insufficient to identify the effects and effects of reinforcement depending on the level of aging. Therefore, in this study, a four-point loading experiment was conducted on the subject with the non-reinforced and external tensioning method to confirm the reinforcement effect of the external tensioning method, assuming the aging of the structure as a reduction in the compressive strength and tensile reinforcement of concrete, to analyze the behavior of the reinforcement and confirm the reinforcement effect. As a result of the experiment, it was difficult to identify the amount of reinforcement in the extreme condition due to early elimination of the anchorage. Therefore, compliance with the regulations on anchor bolts is required when applying the external tension reinforcement method. Crack load and yield load increased depending on whether external tension was reinforced, but before the crack, the stiffness before and after reinforcement was similar, making it difficult to confirm the reinforcement effect.

In this study, the conservatism of the response displacement method (RDM) for the seismic response analysis of box-shaped power cable tunnels was evaluated. A total of 50 examples were used considering the cross-sections of 25 power cable tunnels and two soil conditions for each power cable tunnel. The following three methods were applied for the analysis by the RDM: (1) single cosine method, (2) double cosine method, and (3) dynamic free-field analysis method. A refined dynamic analysis method considering soil-structure interaction (SSI) was employed to compare the conservatism of the RDM. The double cosine method demonstrated the most conservative result, while the dynamic free-field analysis method yielded the least deviation. The soil stiffness reduction factor, C, for the double cosine method was recommended to be 0.9 and 0.7 for the operational performance and collapse prevention levels, respectively, to ensure a probability of at least 80% that the member force by the RDM is larger than that of dynamic SSI analysis.
Inelastic static pushover analysis has been used in the academic-research widely for seismic analysis of structures. Nowadays, the variety pushover analysis methods have been developed, including Modal pushover, Adaptive pushover, and Cyclic pushover, in which some weaknesses of the conventional pushover method have been rectified. In the conventional pushover analysis method, the effects of cumulative growth of cracks are not considered on the reduction of strength and stiffness of RC members that occur during earthquake or cyclic loading. Therefore, the Cyclic Pushover Analysis Method (CPA) has been proposed. This method is a powerful technique for seismic evaluation of regular reinforced concrete buildings in which the first mode of them is dominant. Since the bridges have different structures than buildings, their results cannot necessarily be attributed to bridges, and more research is needed. In this study, a cyclic pushover analysis with four loading protocols (suggested by valid references) by the Opensees software was conducted for seismic evaluation of two regular reinforce concrete bridges. The modeling method was validated with the comparison of the analytical and experimental results under both cyclic and dynamic loading. The failure mode of the piers was considered in two-mode of flexural failure and also a flexural-shear failure. Along with the cyclic analysis, conventional analysis has been studied. Also, the nonlinear incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) method has been used to examine and compare the results of pushover analyses. The time history of 20 far-field earthquake records was used to conduct IDA. After analysis, the base shear vs. displacement in the middle of the deck was drawn. The obtained results show that the cyclic pushover analysis method is able to evaluate an accurate seismic behavior of the reinforced concrete piers of the bridges. Based on the results, the cyclic pushover has proper convergence with IDA. Its accuracy was much higher than the conventional pushover, in which the bridge piers failed in flexural-shear mode. But, in the flexural failure mode, the results of each two pushover methods were close approximately. Besides, the cyclic pushover method with ACI loading protocol, and ATC-24 loading protocol, can provided more accurate results for evaluating the seismic investigation of the bridges, specially if the bridge piers are failed in flexural-shear failure mode.

The elastic and inelastic responses obtained from the experimental and analytical results of two RC building structures under the service level earthquake (SLE) and maximum considered earthquake (MCE) in Korea were used to weinvestigate the characteristics of the mechanisms resisting shear and torsional behavior in torsionally unbalanced structures. Equations representing the interactive effect of translational drift and torsional deformation on the shear force and torsional moment were proposed. Because there is no correlation in the behavior between elastic and inelastic forces and strains, the incremental shear forces and incremental torsional moments were analyzed in terms of their corresponding incremental drifts and incremental torsional deformations with respect to the yield, unloading, and reloading phases around the maximum edge-frame drift. In the elastic combination of the two dominant modes, the translational drift mainly contributes to the shear force, whereas the torsional deformation contributes significantly to the overall torsional moment. However, this phenomenon is mostly altered in the inelastic response such that the incremental translational drift contributes to both the incremental shear forces and incremental torsional moments. In addition, the given equation is used to account for all phenomena, such as the reduction in torsional eccentricity, degradation of torsional stiffness, and apparent energy generation in an inelastic response.

In this study, an experimental study was conducted to analyze the hysteresis behavior according to the steel fiber aspect ratio and volume fraction of diagonally reinforced concrete coupling beams under to cyclic loading. The aspect ratio and volume fraction of the steel fibers were set as the main variables, and 4 specimens were fabricated in which the amount of transverse reinforcement of the coupling beam suggested in the domestic building structural standard was relaxed by about 53%. In the experiment, cyclic loading experiments were performed in the displacement control method in accordance with ACI 374.2R-13, and as a result of the experiment, it was found that all specimens containing steel fibers exceeded the nominal shear strength suggested by the current structural standards. As the aspect ratio of the steel fibers increased, the steel fibers prevented the buckling of the diagonal reinforcement, and the bridging effect of the steel fibers held the crack surface of the concrete. The shear strength, stiffness reduction and energy dissipation capacity of the specimens containing steel fibers were superior to those of the Vf0 specimens without steel fibers. Therefore, it is judged that the steel fiber reinforced concrete can relieve the details of the transverse reinforced.

Weight optimization was performed for a rotorcraft shaft system using one-dimensional Euler-Bernoulli beam elements. Torsion, shaft support stiffness such as bearings, flange mass are all considered. To guarantee structural dynamic stability, eigenvalue analysis was performed to avoid critical speed and tooth mesh excitation form the gearbox. The weight optimization was performed by adjusting the thickness and radius while the length of the shaft was fixed, and the optimization process was divided into two stages. In the first, the weight is optimized with the torsional strength constraint. In the second, the difference between the primary mode of shaft and the critical speed is maximized so that the primary mode of the shaft can avoid the critical speed while the constraint on the torsional strength of the shaft is satisfied according to the standard for shaft system stability (AMC P 706-201, 1974). The proposed method was verified by comparing the results of the optimal design using the given one-dimensional beam elements with the stress results of the 3D finite element and the actual manufactured shaft.
In this paper, bending capacities of glulams with different configurations of cross-section were evaluated. These configurations included horizontal(BH), vertical(BVN), vertical with vertical plywood (BVV) and vertical combination of lamination with horizontal plywood(BVH). Full-scale bending tests were performed to investigate the effect of different section configurations on bending strength(MOR) and stiffness(MOE) of glulam. Compared with type BH, MOR of glulam with type BVN configuration was improved about 23%, which was considered to be caused by defect dispersion effect, while MOE of glulams with these two types of configurations were similar. Because MOE of plywood is generally smaller than that of solid wood laminar, MOE of type BVH glulam decreased about 15%, but in the case of type BVV glulam, MOR was improved without any reduction of MOE. The reason of this result could be undersood in the view of shear-reinforcement effect, which was verified from analysis of fracture mode. From the results of this study, it was concluded that bending capacity of glulam could be improved by proper section design, such as laminar arrangement and shear reinforcement.
Piled raft foundations have been highlighted as an economical design concept of pile foundations in recent years. However, piled raft foundations have not been widely used in Korea due to the difficulty in estimating the complex interaction effects among rafts, piles and soils. The authors developed an effective numerical program to analyze the behavior of piled raft foundations for practical design purposes and presented it briefly in this paper. The developed numerical program simulates the raft as a flexible plate consisting of finite elements with eight nodes and the raft is supported by a series of elastic springs representing subsoils and piles. This study imported another model to simulate pile groups considering non-linear behavior and interaction effects. The apparent stiffnesses of the soils and piles were estimated by iterative calculations to satisfy the compatibility between those two components and the behavior of piled raft foundations can be predicted using these stiffnesses. For the verification of the program, the analysis results about some example problems were compared with those of rigorous three dimensional finite element analysis and other approximate analysis methods. It was found that the program can analyze non-linear behaviors and interaction effects efficiently in multi-layered soils and has sufficient capabilities for application to practical analysis and design of piled raft foundations.
To study the evaluation standard and control limit of mortar filling layer void length, in this paper, the train sub-model was developed by MATLAB and the track-bridge sub-model considering the mortar filling layer void was established by ANSYS. The two sub-models were assembled into a train-track-bridge coupling dynamic model through the wheel-rail contact relationship, and the validity was corroborated by the coupling dynamic model with the literature model. Considering the randomness of fastening stiffness, mortar elastic modulus, length of mortar filling layer void, and pier settlement, the test points were designed by the Box-Behnken method based on Design-Expert software. The coupled dynamic model was calculated, and the support vector regression (SVR) nonlinear mapping model of the wheel-rail system was established. The learning, prediction, and verification were carried out. Finally, the reliable probability of the amplification coefficient distribution of the response index of the train and structure in different ranges was obtained based on the SVR nonlinear mapping model and Latin hypercube sampling method. The limit of the length of the mortar filling layer void was, thus, obtained. The results show that the SVR nonlinear mapping model developed in this paper has a high fitting accuracy of 0.993, and the computational efficiency is significantly improved by 99.86%. It can be used to calculate the dynamic response of the wheel-rail system. The length of the mortar filling layer void significantly affects the wheel-rail vertical force, wheel weight load reduction ratio, rail vertical displacement, and track plate vertical displacement. The dynamic response of the track structure has a more significant effect on the limit value of the length of the mortar filling layer void than the dynamic response of the vehicle, and the rail vertical displacement is the most obvious. At 250 km/h - 350 km/h train running speed, the limit values of grade I, II, and III of the lengths of the mortar filling layer void are 3.932 m, 4.337 m, and 4.766 m, respectively. The results can provide some reference for the long-term service performance reliability of the ballastless track-bridge system of HRS.
