  • In this study, a numerical method is developed for nonlinear analysis for soil-pile-structure interaction system in time domain. Finite elements considering material nonlinearity are used for the near field and boundary elements for the far field. In the near field, frame elements are used for modeling a pile and plane-strain elements for surrounding soil and superstructure. In. the far field, boundary element formulation using the dynamic fundamental solution is adopted and coupled with the near field. Transformation of stiffness matrices of boundary elements into time domain is performed by inverse FFT. Stiffness matrices in the near field and far field are coupled. Newmark direct time integration method is applied. Developed soil-pile-structure interaction analysis method is verified with available literature and commercial code. Also, parametric studies by developed numerical method are performed. And seismic response analysis is performed using actual earthquake records.

  • A three dimensional multibody modeling of a launcher system was developed and dynamic characteristics of the system was carried out. All the components were modeled as rigid bodies, All the components of system, ie; chassis, turret, cage and suspension parts, are modeled as rigid. The force interaction between the ground and tire was modeled as a point contact model. The factors were selected as cause and effect diagram of the MINITAB. To see effect of the stiffness, damping, mass at the launcher system, several cases of suspension parameters were compared and optimal values were selected. The stiffness and the damping coefficient were selected as design variables to minimize the required time for the next fire. The dynamic simulation was carried out using the ADAMS, and the MINITAB was employed for data analysis.

  • In this paper, a kinematic and dynamic model for an excavator is presented. A graphic user interface program for kinematic-dynamic analysis for the excavator is developed. To predict the stiffness and damping properties of the joint between the vehicle and the track, a parameter study is executed. Using the predicted joint stiffness and damping, the jerk simulation for the excavator is reproduced. Simulation results are compared with the test results to confirm the validity of the simulation model.

  • This paper presents a simplified grid beam model for simulating the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete flat-plate structures. The beam elements are defined with nonlinear behavior for bending moment and torsion. The flexural stiffness and torsional strength of the beam elements are defined based on experimental data to implicitly account for slab two-way bending effects. A failure criterion that considers the interaction between the punching strength and slab flexural behavior is incorporated in the model. The effects of bond-slip of slab reinforcement on connection stiffness are examined. The proposed grid beam model is validated by simulating large-scale tests of slab-column connections subjected to concentric gravity loading and unbalanced moment. This study also determines the critical parameters for a hysteretic model used to simulate flat-plates subjected to cyclic lateral loading.

  • This paper presents an optimization-based method for computing a minimal bounding ellipsoid that contains the set of static responses of an uncertain braced frame. Based on a non-stochastic modeling of uncertainty, we assume that the parameters both of brace stiffnesses and external forces are uncertain but bounded. A brace member represents the sum of the stiffness of the actual brace and the contributions of some non-structural elements, and hence we assume that the axial stiffness of each brace is uncertain. By using the $\mathcal{S}$-lemma, we formulate a semidefinite programming (SDP) problem which provides an outer approximation of the minimal bounding ellipsoid. The minimum bounding ellipsoids are computed for a braced frame under several uncertain circumstances.

  • The purpose of this paper to describe an analytical model that is capable of reproducing the hysteretic behavior of beam-column joints under cyclic loading and to suggest the variable of hysteretic model for the inelastic analysis of R/C frame structures to do this quasi-static analysis using IDARC program was performed for the beam-column joints. The effort to obtain the result of analysis similar to those of experiment was made by determining the value for hysteretic parameters representing stiffness degradation, strength deterioration and pinching effect. The accuracy and reliability of the proposed analytical model was demonstrated by comparison of load-displacement relation, maximum strength, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation.

  • The purpose of this paper is to experimentally identify the finite element (FE) model of a building structure with magnetorheological (MR) fluid damper. Using FE model based system identification (FEBSI) technique, The model of MR damper having nonlinear characteristics is expressed with equivalent linear properties such as mass, stiffness, and damping. Bingham model is used for MR damper modeling. The equivalent stiffness and damping matrices of MR damper are predicted by applying an equivalent linearization technique, and those values are compared with the experimentally obtained ones.

  • Current design practice for the prediction of tunnelling-induced ground movements depends on empirical methods, which are based on many assumptions and simplification of the modeling. Some discrepancies between the predictions and the measurements of ground movements regarding adjacent structures are inevitable. In order to investigate tunnel-induced ground movements affect on the settlement of existing structures as well as existing structures affect tunnel-induced ground movement, 2-D elasto-plastic finite element analysis are performed. The following influencing factors such as load of the structures, the width of structures, its bending and axial stiffness, its position relative to the tunnel are considered in the numerical analysis.

  • This study investigates the difference between single-cell and multi-cell cross-sections of thin-walled beams. The variationally and asymptotically consistent theory is used in order to model the two-cell thin- walled beam. The theory is based on an asymptotical analysis of two-dimensional shell energy. In addition, the method allows for the development of closed-form expressions for the displacement, stress field and beam stiffness coefficients. The numerical results show the difference between the cross-sectional stiffness of single-cell and that of multi-cell.

  • The dynamic behavior of rotor-bearing system has been investigated using finite element method. A procedure is presented for dynamic modeling of rotor-bearing system which consist of shaft elements, rigid disk, flexible bearing and support structures. A finite element model including the effects of rotary inertia, shear deformation, gyroscopic moments is developed. Linear stiffness and damping coefficient are calculated for 3 lobe sleeve bearing. The whirl frequency, mode shape, stability and unbalance response of rotor system included effect of bearing coefficient and support structures are calculated.
