  • In this paper, authors use a stereo vision system based on the visual model of human and establish inexpensive method that recognizes moving distance using characteristic points around the robot. With the stereovision. the changes of the coordinate values of the characteristic points that are fixed around the robot are measured. Self-displacement and self-localization recognition system is proposed from coordination reconstruction with those changes. To evaluate the proposed system, several characteristic points that is made with a LED around the robot and two cheap USB PC cameras are used. The mobile robot measures the coordinate value of each characteristic point at its initial position. After moving, the robot measures the coordinate values of the characteristic points those are set at the initial position. The mobile robot compares the changes of these several coordinate values and converts transformation matrix from these coordinate changes. As a matrix of the amount and the direction of moving displacement of the mobile robot, the obtained transformation matrix represents self-displacement and self-localization by the environment.

  • In this paper, we propose the system which detects the speaker, who is speaking currently, among a number of users. A proposed speaker detection system based on stereo vision and audio is mainly composed of the followings: a position estimation of speaker candidates using stereo camara and microphone, a current speaker detection, and a speaker information acquisition based on a mobile device. We use the haar-like features and the adaboost algorithm to detect the faces of speaker candidates with stereo camera, and the position of speaker candidates is estimated by a triangulation method. Next, the Time Delay Of Arrival (TDOA) is estimated by the Cross Power Spectrum Phase (CPSP) analysis to find the direction of source with two microphone. Finally we acquire the information of the speaker including his position, voice, and face by comparing the information of the stereo camera with that of two microphone. Furthermore, the proposed system includes a TCP client/server connection method for mobile service.

  • In this paper, a new 3D robot vision system using the hierarchical opto-digital algorithm is proposed and implemented. From some experimental results with the 20 frames of the stereo input image pairs, the proposed system is found to be able to effectively extract the area where the target object is located from the stereo input image regardless of the background noises.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to automatically extract stable visual landmarks from observed data for a mobile robot with stereo vision system. The robot selects as stable landmarks vertical line segments which are distinct and on planar surfaces, because they are expected to be observed reliably from various view-points. When the robot moves, it uses several, less uncertain landmarks for estimating its motion. Experimental results in real scenes show the validity of the proposed method.

  • 3D object recognition is difficult but important in computer vision. The important thing is to understand about the relationship between a geometric structure in three dimensions and its image projection. Most 3D recognition systems construct models either manually or by training the pose and orientation of the objects. But both approaches are not satisfactory. In this paper, we focus on a commercial CAD model as a third type of model building for vision. The models are expressed in Initial Graphics Exchanges Specification(IGES) output and reconstructed in a pinhole camera coordinate.

  • In this paper, we propose a vision based passenger monitoring system for passenger's safety in railway station. Since 2005, Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) has developed a vision based monitoring system, funded by Korean government, for passenger's safety in railway station. The proposed system uses various types of sensors, such as, stereo camera, thermal-camera and infrared sensor, in order to detects danger situations in platform area. Especially, detection process of the system exploits the stereo vision algorithm to improve detection accuracy. The paper describes the overall system configuration and proposed detection algorithm, and then verifies the system performance with extensive experimental results in a real station environment.

  • Stereo vision system is useful method for inferring 3D depth information from two or more images. So it has been the focus of attention in this field for a long time. Stereo matching is the process of finding correspondence points in two or more images. A central problem in a stereo matching is that it is difficult to satisfy both the computation time problem and accuracy at the same time. To resolve this problem, we proposed a new stereo matching technique using weighted cost aggregation. To begin with, we extract the weight in given stereo images based on features. We compute the costs of the pixels in a given window using correlation of weighted color and brightness information. Then, we match pixels in a given window between the reference and target images of a stereo pair. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm, we provide experimental data from several synthetic and real scenes. The experimental results show the improved accuracy of the proposed method.

  • A stereo vision system such as the structure of human's eyes has two cameras at separated positions from which we can obtain two input images and then put them together to create 3-D image. It can show more virtual effect than the conventional 2-D image system. But, the stereo image system has to control the convergence angle so that the stereo disparity could always be zero because observers can be fatigued and unconscious of stereo image in conditions that the stereo disparity is not zero for a long work. Therefore, in the paper, optical JTC system which can process adaptive tracking of a specific moving object is proposed as a new approach to keep the stereo disparity to be zero. In this method, optical JTC system obtains the values of the relative locations of a moving objects in left and right images and then these values are used for maintaining the stereo disparity to be zero. Through some optical experiments the proposed stereo vision system is proved to be insensitive to background noises and operate in real-time.
