A back tracing in dynamic programming for efficient the stereo matching (효율적인 스테레오 정합을 위한 동적계획법의 역 추적 방법)

  • 변이영상은 두 스테레오 영상의 시차에 의해 발생하는 각 화소의 변위를 수록한 영상이다. 이 영상은 깊이영상을 생성하여 시점 간 가상영상을 생성하는데 사용된다. 따라서 변이영상은 다시점 비디오 서비스와 직접적인 연관이 있다. 본 논문에서는 유일성(uniqueness)제약과 순차성(ordering) 제약을 사용하여 기준영상과 참조영상 사이의 관계를 이용하여 생성한 변이 공간 영상(DSI : disparity space image)으로부터 비용 행렬을 계산하여 최적의 변이 경로를 찾아가는 다이내믹 프로그래밍을 분석 하였다. 다이내믹 프로그래밍은 정밀한 변이 맵을 얻을 수 있고, 다른 방식들에 비해 연산 속도가 빠르다는 장점을 가지고 있지만, 영상의 화소값의 변화가 없는 영역에서 이전의 경로를 계속 유지하려는 성질에 때문에 발생 하는 오류확산과 가려진 (occluded) 영역에 의한 오차로 인해 정확한 경로를 찾을 수 없는 경우가 빈번히 발생 하여 에러율이 높아지는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 이론을 토대로 기존의 기법들에 비하여 정확도가 우수한 기법들을 제안하였다. 개선된 역 추적 과정을 이용하여 기존의 다이내믹 프로그래밍 기반의 스테레오 정합 기법들보다 우수성이 뛰어난 결과들을 나타내었다.

A Bottom-up and Top-down Based Disparity Computation

  • It is becoming apparent that stereo matching algorithms need much information from high level cognitive processes. Otherwise, conventional algorithms based on bottom-up control alone are susceptible to local minima. We introduce a system that consists of two levels. A lower level, using a usual matching method, is based upon the local neighborhood and a second level, that can integrate the partial information, is aimed at contextual matching. Conceptually, the introduction of bottom-up and top-down feedback loop to the usual matching algorithm improves the overall performance. For this purpose, we model the image attributes using a Markov random field (MRF) and thereupon derive a maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimate. The energy equation, corresponding to the estimate, efficiently represents the natural constraints such as occlusion and the partial informations from the other levels. In addition to recognition, we derive a training method that can determine the system informations from the other levels. As an experiment, we test the algorithms using random dot stereograms (RDS) as well as natural scenes. It is proven that the overall recognition error is drastically reduced by the introduction of contextual matching.

  • This paper proposes a method to manipulate digital hologram contents by manipulating and/or synthesizing the depth information. To synthesize digital holograms themselves in order to create new digital hologram contents. This paper uses both the depth information obtained by converting the disparity information by using a stereo matching method and that obtained by taking pictures with a depth camera. In addition, assuming that digital holograms are created using the computer-generated holography method, we propose a technique for authoring and compositing hologram contents by using either the changes in the three-dimensional positions of objects in the hologram or by combining the objects with other contents by means of changes in the depth information. Further, more than one digital hologram was synthesized to form a hologram. The reconstructed result from the synthesized hologram also contained all the objects in each digital hologram before synthesis at the same positions and distances.

  • In the three-dimensional image system using stereoscopic images, efficient coding schemes which can get rid of redundancy between the left and right images are usually used. In this paper, we propose an efficient coding method by using relationship between a reference image and residual image. In the proposed algorithm, zero-tree method which guaranty a good quality in low bit rate is used for encoding the residual image. Zero-tree algorithm gives good coding performance, but it has computational complexity so that we used ADLS method to reduce time for the disparity estimation. Using the wavelet based zero-tree method, it is shown that high quality of image in the limited band-width can be preserved through computer simulation.

  • Passenger safety is a primary concern of railway system but, it has been urgent issue that dozens of people are killed every year when they falloff from train platforms. Recently, advancements in IT have enabled applying vision sensors to railway environments, such as CCTV and stereo camera sensors. In this paper, we propose a stereoscopic video coding scheme for subway accident monitoring system. The proposed scheme is designed for providing flexible video among various displays, such as control center, station employees and train driver. We uses MPEG-2 standard for coding the left-view sequence and IBMDC for predicting the P- and B-types of frames of the right-view sequence. IBMDC predicts matching block by interpolating both motion and disparity predicted macroblocks. To provide efficient stereoscopic video service. we define both temporally and spatially scalable layers for each eye's-view by using the concept of Spatio-Temporal scalability. According to the experimental results. we expect the proposed functionalities will play a key role in establishing highly flexible stereoscopic video codec for ubiquitous display environment where devices and network connections are heterogeneous.

Efficient Hardware Implementation of Real-time Rectification using Adaptively Compressed LUT

  • Rectification is used as a preprocessing to reduce the computation complexity of disparity estimation. However, rectification also requires a complex computation. To minimize the computing complexity, rectification using a lookup-table (R-LUT) has been introduced. However, since, the R-LUT consumes large amount of memory, rectification with compressed LUT (R-CLUT) has been introduced. However, the more we reduce the memory consumption, the more we need decoding overhead. Therefore, we need to attain an acceptable trade-off between the size of LUT and decoding overhead. In this paper, we present such a trade-off by adaptively combining simple coding methods, such as differential coding, modified run-length coding (MRLE), and Huffman coding. Differential coding is applied to transform coordinate data into a differential form in order to further improve the coding efficiency along with Huffman coding for better stability and MRLE for better performance. Our experimental results verified that our coding scheme yields high performance with maintaining robustness. Our method showed about ranging from 1 % to 16 % lower average inverse of compression ratio than the existing methods. Moreover, we maintained low latency with tolerable hardware overhead for real-time implementation.

  • Stereoscopic technology can be regarded as core basis technology which is commonly requested in field of next generation stereoscopic multi media information communication. Realization of stereoscopic image in order to express natural images that are close to reality is a part that human constantly put effort, it first began with visual recognition system, went through stereo picture by using binocular disparity and were conducted as video clip stereoscopic age. Life is changing, a new culture is formed, there were technological development which realized imagination as reality based on expansion of IT industry and core trend, and there is 3D stereoscopic image technology in the center. We will look at technology development tendency and development strategy of 3D stereoscopic image in this essay, and will suggest efficient usage plan of 3D stereoscopic image technology for continuous market expansion.

  • In this paper, we present a snake-based scheme for contour tracking of objects in stereo image sequences. We address the problem by managing the insertion of new points and deletion of unnecessary points to better describe and track the object's boundary. In particular, our method uses more points in highly curved parts of the contour, and fewer points in less curved parts. The proposed algorithm can successfully define the contour of the object, and can track the contour in complex images. Furthermore, we tested our algorithm in the presence of partial object occlusion. Performance of the proposed algorithm has been verified by simulation.

  • Depth information is necessary for various three dimensional contents generation. Depth acquisition techniques can be categorized broadly into two approaches: active, passive depth sensors depending on how to obtain depth information. In this paper, we take a look at several ways of depth acquirement. We present not only depth acquisition methods using discussed ways, but also hybrid methods which combine both approaches to compensate for drawbacks of each approach. Furthermore, we introduce several matching cost functions and post-processing techniques to enhance the temporal consistency and reduce flickering artifacts and discomforts of users caused by inaccurate depth estimation in 3D video.

  • 본 논문에서는 깊이 변화에 강인한 스테레오 비디오의 변이 탐색 범위 추정 방법을 제안한다. 정확한 스테레오 비디오의 변이 탐색 범위는 3D 영상 분야에서 다양한 응용으로 사용되는 변이 지도를 보다 정확하게 추정하는데 도움이 된다. 기존의 변이 탐색 범위 추정 방법은 인접한 프레임 간의 변이 히스토그램의 유사도를 이용함으로써 보다 안정적인 변이 탐색 범위를 추정할 수 있었지만, 시간의 흐름에 따라 깊이가 변하는 부분에서는 상당히 취약한 문제점을 가지고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 기존 방법의 이러한 문제점을 개선한 새로운 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법은 변이 히스토그램의 유사도뿐만 아니라 프레임 간의 시간적 유사도를 고려하며, 비디오의 장면 전환에 의한 급격한 깊이 변화 또한 고려한다. 이에 추가적으로 변이 히스토그램의 유사도를 계산하기 위해 기존의 방법과는 달리 히스토그램 확산 거리를 이용하였으며, 서로 다른 개수의 대응점을 가지고 있는 프레임간의 변이 히스토그램이 대응점의 개수에 영향을 받지 않고 균일한 중요도를 갖도록 하였다. 실험 결과로 기존 방법과 제안한 방법의 변이 탐색 범위 추정 결과를 비교하였으며, 비교한 결과는 제안한 방법이 기존 방법에 비해 스테레오 비디오의 깊이 변화에 강인함을 보여준다.
