This study was conducted to identify the relationships among self-care agency, family support, qualify of life in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The subjects were 120 rheumatoid arthritis patients who attended RA O.P.D. at a university hospital, located in Daegu city, from 10th of May in 1998 to 30th of July in 1998. Three structure questionnaires were administered for explore three main research variables; 소향숙's self-care agency scale, 강현숙's family support scale, and 김종임's quality of life scale of RA patien. Data analysis was conducted with SPSS program including percentage, mean, standard deviation, mean score, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, multiple regression, and Cronbach's Alpha. Results are summarized as follows; 1. The mean of RA patient's self-care agency was 136.62, the mean of family support 37.38, and the mean of qualify of life 134.41. 2. Subject's self-care agency was positively correlated with family support(r=.2446) and with quality of life(r=.4341). Subject's family support was positively correlated with quality of life(r=.2630). 3. Stepwise multiple regression was used to determine the predictors of subject's quality of life. Significant predictors for subject's quality of life were self-care agency(t=4.873 p=0.0000), family support(t=4.480 p=0.0000) and the severity of arthralgia(t=-3.838, p=0.0002). The number of joints involved and the periods of illness did not show significant contribution to subject's quality of life. Self-care agency, family support, and family support explained 40. 39% of the variance in RA patient's quality of life. Given this results, it is suggested that a repeated study to measure RA patient's self-care practice in their own life may be needed to develope and validate an optimum level of nursing intervention for RA patient with which family support will be encouraged and patient's self-care agency will be facilitated.

This study was conducted to explore the impact of learning strategies on the level of participation in the online collaborative learning process. To do this, We studied 91 students who took professorship courses at A university in the Seoul metropolitan area. At the beginning of the semester, the learning strategies were measured through MSLQ, rehearsal, elaboration, organizing, critical thinking, metacognition, learning management, effort control, peer learning, and seeking help. Next, cooperative tasks were carried out to measure the interaction, and group composition consisted of 4-5 persons. The level of participation was measured by scores given to the messages created for interaction. The process of collaborative learning was divided into the steps of identifying learning goals, learning plans, performing individual learning, sharing learning results, and writing reports. The effects of learning strategies on participation level were analyzed through multiple regression analysis (stepwise selection method). As a result, the learning goal step influenced the highest level of metacognition, and the learning plan is the management of the learning time, the demonstration of the learning execution, the adjustment of the effort, the acquisition of help, the collegial learning, Writing was influenced by organization, elaboration, critical thinking, and critical thinking, metacognition, and elaboration.
This study has verified Family Functioning, Communication and Spiritual Wellbeing, to increase the family functioning in Adult Women. 236 adult women were chosen as the samples for the study, they are now currently registered in the church adult women in Seoul. The instruments used for this study were the Family functioning scale by Olson, the communication scale by David H. Olson and Howard L. Barnes and spiritual wellbing Scale by Palautzian and Ellison Folkman. Data collection were form March to April, 2003. To get the descriptive statistics, SPSS Program, Pearson Correlation Coefficients and stepwise multiple regression were used for analyzing data. The results were as following: 1. Represents the degree of family functioning, communication and spiritual wellbeing, on subjects. Means scores of this study are following: spiritual wellbeing 67.92, lower level of cohesive(5.19) and adaptive(3.93), communication 58.14, lower level of open(5.15) and closed(4.71) and family functioning 95.58, lower level of religious(7.70) and existential(7.63). All each lower level of family functioning, communication and spiritual wellbeing, on subjects were derived significantly different(p.05). There were significant correlation among the variables of subjects. The cohesive family functioning score was significant related to the adapted(r=.588). Especially, the closed communication score showed inverse correlations open family functioning(r=-.424) and open communication score(r=-.680). The existential spiritual wellbeing score also was significant related to the cohesive(p<.001) and adaptive(p<.05) family functioning, open communication(p<.05). Especially, the closed communication score showed inverse correlations existential spiritual wellbeing (r=-.202). The existential spiritual wellbeing score also was significant related to the religious(r=.815, p<.001). Objectives : The current study was conducted in order to investigate teachers' recognition of school bullying using a nationwide database of adolescents in middle and high school in Korea. Methods : Students in the 7th to 12th grades at 23 secondary schools participated in the current study during the fall of 2009. Subjects completed the self-report form of the Adolescent Mental Health and Problem Behavior Screening Questionnaire-II (AMPQ-II) and Symptom Checklist-90 Revised (SCL-90-R). In addition, relevant teachers used the teachers' rating scale of the AMPQ-II to report their students' status. Differences in the number of bullied students between teachers' recognition and students' report were explored. Results : A total of 2270 subjects provided relevant responses to the questionnaire. While the one-month prevalence of victimization according to students' self-reports was 28.9%, the recognized prevalence by teachers was only 10.6%. For prediction of the presence of school bullying according to students' self reports on the AMPQ-II, item 7 of the teachers' report on the AMPQ-II showed a sensitivity of 16%, a specificity of 92%, a positive predictability of 44%, a negative predictability of 72%, a false positive rate of 8%, a false negative rate of 84%, and an accuracy of 69%, respectively. No significant differences in subscores of students' self reports of the AMPQ-II and SCL-90-R were observed between bullied students who were recognized by teachers and those who were not recognized. In stepwise discriminant analysis, classification of teachers' item 2 and item 7 on the AMPQ-II with respect to school bullying according to students' reports showed an accuracy of 63.4%. Using this model, 75.2% of non-victimized subjects were classified correctly, while only 35.2% of victimized subjects were classified correctly. Conclusion : Despite the high prevalence in Korea, teachers' recognition of school violence among their students remains low. Pre-professional and continuing education to improve teachers' understanding of school bullying and knowledge of effective classroom-based prevention activities should be encouraged.
Local food reflects the identity and image of a specific region. It is also a core element for determining tourists' experience of a region. The purpose of the present study was to develop a Jeju food tour package using local foods and estimate the economic value of the suggested tour package using Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). Five food tour packages were developed by researchers. In order to modify and measure the value of each package, an expert panel survey was conducted, and 'package 5' was selected as a food tour scenario for the tourist survey. A survey was conducted on 295 domestic tourists who visited Jeju within the past 10 years in order to evaluate the economic value and feasibility of the Jeju food tour package. A total fo 72.9% of respondents answered that they were willing to pay for the Jeju local food tour, and the willingness to pay (WTP) range was between ₩45,000 and ₩105,000. The primary factors correlated with WTP was food expenses, followed by leisure experience expenses, interest in local foods, education level, visit frequency and age. The WTP of the Jeju local food tour was calculated with the significantly affected factors using stepwise regression model. The result of the present study reveal that tourists' WTP increased with higher food expenses, education level, and age group. The average value of food expenses, education level, and age were substituted into the formula derived from the regression analysis, yielding 58,385.752 KRW as the WTP. The expected economic value created by exploiting the Jeju local food tour was shown to be 700 billion KRW per year, calculated by multiplying WTP of the food tour packages by the number of tourists. This study examined the feasibility and plan of the food tour package to increase the economic value of Jeju local food. In the case of the culinary tour program based on Jeju local food launching, the estimated economic effect was great. Therefore, in-depth research to merchandise the Jeju local food tour program is needed.
This study is the descriptive survey for the purpose of providing the basic data that establishes the strategy to promote adolescent's hope by the examining of self-esteem, academic achievement, family functioning and hope of adolescents and the investigating of the factors influencing the hope in adolescents. The subjects for this study were 456 students of the first and second year of man's senior high school that located in Seoul. The data were gathered from 16th to 31st of the October 2000. For the survey tool, it was used that the Family Assessment Device(FAD) of Epstein, Baldwin & Bishop(1983), the Self-Esteem Inventory(SEI) of Coopersmith(1975), the class record order and Hinds & Gatusso(1991)'s Hopefulness Scale for Adolescents(HSA). The collected data was analyzed by statistics methods as the descriptive and frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression of SAS program. The results of this study were following : 1. The mean score of self-esteem of young people was 51.06±6.83 and the mean grade was 2.04. The high academic achievement was 29.2%, middle grade was 52.7%, and low grade was 18.1%. The mean score of the family functioning was 38.30±6.98 and the mean grade was 2.25. The mean score of hope was 84.26±16.45 and the mean grade was 3.51. 2. The hope in adolescents was significantly different according to their father's school career. The mean score of the group that the father's school career was below junior high school was 77.32. That was significantly lower than the mean score 84.59 of the group that the father's school career was above college and the mean score 85.18 of senior high school group(F=4.04, P= 0.0183). 3. The self-esteem was represented the positive correlation with family functioning(r=0.43) and the all of the 4 subscales(r=0.31, 0.41, 0.39, 0.30). And, it was highly ranked as much as family functioning was good. The academic achievement was represented the positive correlation with self-esteem(r= 0.15). Also, the positive correlation was shown between the affective responsiveness, role recognition and emotional support as the subscales of family functioning and academic achievement(r=0.11, 0.12). And so, academic achievement was high as much as self-esteem was high and affective responsiveness and role recognition and emotional support were good. The hope was represented positive correlation with self-esteem and academic achievement(r=0.42, 0.26), and with the whole of family functioning(r=0.15) and the 4 subscales(r=0.13, 0.16, 0.11, 0.13). So, hope was high as much as self-esteem was high, academic achievement was high and family functioning was good. 4. The influencing factors on the hope of adolescents were self-esteem(17.63%), academic achievement(3.41%), father's school career(0.84%). These factors made it possible to explain 21.88% of hope.
The purpose of this study was to identify health promoting behaviors(HPBs) and the related determinants affecting to women workers health based on the New Health Promotion Model by Pender(1996). Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from 208 women workers at the 8 electronic manufacturing factories under the permission of data collection and cooperation with health managers in the factories during the period from September to October 1999. For data analysis. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and Stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/PC+7.5 version were used. The results were as follows : 1. The average score for the HPBs, consisted of 6 subdimensions was 2.05. The highest mean score was 2.29 in 'Spiritual growth' and the lowest one was 1.66 in 'Physical activity'. 2. No significant difference between general charateristics and HPBs were found. 3. HPBs were positively related to 'Prior related behavior'(r=0.369, p<0.1), 'Perceived self-efficacy'(r=0.340, p<.01), 'Activity-related affect'(r=0.252, p<.01). 'Social support'(r=0.350, p<.01). 'Commitment to a plan action'(r=0.374, p<.01). There was no significant correlation between perceived health status, perceived barriers to action and HPBs. 4. The most important variable in HPBs was 'Commitment to a plan action'. It was explained 14.0% out of the total variance of HPBs. 'Commitment to a plan action', 'Prior related behavior', 'Social support', 'Self-efficacy' and 'Perceived barriers to action' explained 23.0%. According to the results of this study, the suggestions were as follows: 1. It is necessary to develop program for improving the physical activity and health responsibility of women workers at the manufacturing industry. 2. To facilitate and maintain HPBs of women workers, nurses may enhance and plan mutually interactive active HPBs with women workers. 3. Social support at the level of individual workers, supervisors, and the organization is required in order to conduct health promotion program at the factories. 4. Significantly related variables to HIPBs should be identified the direct and indirect paths among them further more.

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of self-esteem and consumer socialization agents on rational consumption patterns of middle school students. Using a convenient sampling method, the data were collected from middle schools in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, Jeonnam, and Gwangju and a total of 412 copies were analyzed. The descriptive statistics, Chronbach's α, t-test, and stepwise regression analysis were performed using the SPSS and the results were as follows. First, rational consumption behavior was 3.18 and self-esteem was 3.54 on a 5-Likert scale. As for consumer socialization agents, parents was the highest at 3.13, followed by school 2.83, mass media 2.78 and peers 2.73. Second, the average comparison of rational consumption behavior and consumer socialization agents by gender showed that there was no gender difference in rational consumption behavior, but in the case of consumer socialization, girls were higher than boys. Third, examining the influence of self-esteem and consumer socialization agents on rational consumption behavior, it was found that the amount of money, mass media, and peers showed an negative effects on rational consumption behavior, while self-esteem and parents showed positive effects on rational consumption behavior. In this regard, middle school students need to have more self-esteem and guide their peers so that their influence can be positive in the home economics class in order to become consumers with rational consumption behavior.
This paper presents a new algorithm to the segmentation of the FISH images. First, for segmentation of the cell nuclei from background, a threshold is estimated by using the gaussian mixture model and maximizing the likelihood function of gray value of cell images. After nuclei segmentation, overlapped nuclei and isolated nuclei need to be classified for exact nuclei analysis. For nuclei classification, this paper extracted the morphological features of the nuclei such as compactness, smoothness and moments from training data. Three probability density functions are generated from these features and they are applied to the proposed Bayesian networks as evidences. After nuclei classification, segmenting of overlapped nuclei into isolated nuclei is necessary. This paper first performs intensity gradient transform and watershed algorithm to segment overlapped nuclei. Then proposed stepwise merging strategy is applied to merge several fragments in major nucleus. The experimental results using FISH images show that our system can indeed improve segmentation performance compared to previous researches, since we performed nuclei classification before separating overlapped nuclei.
