  • A special field experiment has been carried out from March 2001 to June 2001 at the Changhowon in Kyunggi to investigate a better methodology for the estimation of dry deposition of pollutions applicable in Korea. In this study, dry deposition plate was used to measure of total and water soluble acidic mass fluxes, and CPRI(Coarse Particle Rotary Impactor), CI(Cascade Impactor) were also used to measure ambient concentrations in various particle size ranges. Sehmel-Hodgson model was used to estimate dry depostion velocity and Weibull probability distribution function was applied to get generalized particle size distribution for the size fractioned concentration data sampled by CPRI and CI. Atmospheric dry deposition fluxes of mass and ionic matters estimated by the various techniques(one-step, multi-step, equi-concentration, subdivision for only the coarse particle range, applying Weibull distribution function, etc.) were compared to flux data sampled by DDP. It was found out that the deposition fluxes estimation methodology calculated by the each particle size range devided by particle size distribution characteristics and the rapidly changed points of deposition velocity using Weibull probability distribution function was the most applicable.

  • This paper deals with an efficient optimization design method of a compact ultra wideband (UWB) filter which can improve the characteristics of the filter. The Evolution Strategy (ES) algorithm is adopted for the optimization and modified to suppress the ripple by inserting an additional step to the ES scheme. The algorithm has the ability to control the ripple of an insertion loss in a passband as a modified approach. During the modified ES, a structure of initial shape is changed a lot, while includes the stepped impedance (SI) and the composite right/left handed transmission line (CRLH-TL). And an optimized filter satisfies the UWB specifications on the stopband and passband with an acceptable insertion loss. The filter achieves a much developed shape, the size of $15{\times}14mm$, the 3dB bandwidth from 2.7 to 10.8GHz, the flat insertion-loss less than 1dB, the wide stopband with 12~20GHz, and an acceptable return loss.

  • In this paper mechanical behavior of the functional gradient materials (FGM) micro-gripper under thermal load and DC voltage is numerically investigated taking into account the effect of intermolecular forces. In contrary to the similar previous works, which have been conducted for homogenous material, here, the FGM material has been implemented. It is assumed that the FGM micro-gripper is made of metal and ceramic and that material properties are changed continuously along the beam thickness according to a given function. The nonlinear governing equations of the static and dynamic deflection of microbeams have been derived using the coupled stress theory. The equations have been solved using the Galerkin based step-by-step linearization method (SSLM). The solution procedure has been evaluated against available data of literature showing good agreement. A parametric study has been conducted, focusing on the combined effects of important parameters included DC voltage, temperature variation, geometrical dimensions and ceramic volume concentration on the dynamic response and stability of the FGM micro-gripper.

  • The restructuring of power industry is still going on all over the world for last several decades. Many kinds of restructuring model have been studied, proposed, and applied. Among those models, power pool is more popular than other. This paper assumes the power pool market structure having competitive generation sector, and a new method is presented to build a bidding strategy in that market. The utilities participating in the market have the perfect information of their cost and price functions, but they don't know which strategy to be chosen by others. To define one's strategy as a vector, we make utility's cost/price functions into discrete step functions. An utility knows only his own strategy, so he estimates the other's cost/price functions into discrete step functions. An utility knows only his own strategy, so he estimates the other's strategy using Nash equilibrium or stochastic methods. And he also has to forecast the system demand. According to this forecasting result, his payoffs can be changed. Considering these all conditions, we formulate a bidding game problem and apply noncooperative game theory to that problem for the optimal strategy or solution. Some restrictive assumption are added for simplification of solving process. A numerical example is given in Case Study to show essential features and concrete results of this approach.

  • This study is for elementary school student's spatial ability improvement. We have to know their correct spatial ability for teaching it more effectively. And then we can organize about spatial ability one of schoolbook systematically and step by step. Therefore this study did survey elementary school student's spatial ability by grades and school score using newly developed spatial ability survey test. According to result, First, elementary school students spatial ability be developed gradually more 5th, 6th grades than 3th, 4th grades. Second, it was researched that high score student's spatial ability is better than score student lower student's. But the result was influenced by school's curriculum. The score of contents in school's curriculum higher than it's not. Synthetically, the suggestion is what the curriculum is changed. It need to input the contents of spatial abilities and more detailed study.

  • The automobile is made up of thousands of parts. Some parts are formed by pressing and combined by spot welding. To find weldability conditions of spot welding, clearance between two welding plates was made and after spot welding, weldability is evaluated by means of tensile shear load, nugget size and shape. Specimen used in this study was a steel plate of 1.2mm thickness and electrode was Cu-Cr alloy of 6mm diameter. When spot welding started, the clearance of two specimens was changed 0mm, 3mm and 5mm and distance from vise to measure influence of bending moment 25mm, 45mm, 65mm step by step. The fractured surface of specimen after this test was observed by Optical Microscope to measure microstructure and nugget shape. When clearance of two specimen was 3mm and 5mm, strength and nugget size was decreased and nugget shape was not clear. The much bending moment and crosshead speed are the much tensile shear load is.

  • In the aerospace industry, Cold expansion has been used the most important method that is retarded of crack initiation from fastener hole surface. Cold expansion method(CEM) is that a oversized tapered mandrel goes through the hole in order to develop a compressive residual stress as the passing of the mandrel around the hole. Therefore, because of characteristic of mandrel inserting, Residual Stress Distributions (RSD) are differently generated form Entry, Mid and Exit position of the plate. Also, it is respected that RSD are changed as distances between holes. In this paper, It is performed a FE analysis of RSD by CEM and it is respectively shown RSD in the Entry, Mid and Exit position. It is compared residual stress results form the cold expansion in these two cases: the concurrent CEM and the sequential CEM. From this research, it has been found that compressive residual stress of Entry position is lower than other positions. Also, the concurrent CE of adjacent holes leads to much higher compressive residual stress than the sequential CE. In addition, in the sequential CE case, a compressive RSD of 1 step's hole around is lower than compressive RSD of 2 step's hole around.

  • Agricultural extension has contributed enormously to agriculture and farmers, since Rural Development Administration(RDA) was founded in Korea. However, as the decentralization got started and world environment has changed, agriculture extension shrank by transferring the function of agricultural extension to local government. According to public opinion appeared on the bulletin boards of RDA web site, many people suggest that agricultural extension should be improved from the current system and services. Findings in the transfer of the extension system from national status to local government showed some advantages and disadvantages; 1) Agricultural extension services was decreased sharply by a large dropping in the number of extension educators. 2) The identity of agricultural extension services was disappearing. 3) The extension projects when matched with local features could be better implemented. 4) The lives of extension educators were better stabilized. Rural Development Administration intends to transfer the director of the local Agriculture Technology Center to the national status. This would return all current extension educators step by step to national positions. By doing so, agricultural extension scholars and farmers are welcoming this agenda. On the other hand, the extension educators themselves were divided by contradictory opinions Therefore, government should search for the better alternatives to establish more effective system with considerations of various aspects in activating the agricultural extension services.

  • Most stable conformers of some antiinflammatory fenamates were obtained by conformational free energy change calculations. Conformational energies for the molecules as unhydrate d state were estimated first, and those as hydrated state were calculated then to simulate the molecules in aqueous solution using a hydration shell model. The initial geometries of the molecules were obtained either from X-ray crystallographic data or from homologous molecular fragments. The bond lengths and angles were not varied, but all the torsion angles were varied step by step during the conformational free energy surface searching. The results show that there are several feasible conformations for a compound. And the molecules are somewhat stabilized by hydration (-${\delta}G_{hyd}{\cong}$13 to 16kcal/mole), but the conformations were not changed significantly by the hydration itself. There seems to be a strong tendency of intramolecular hydrogen bonding between imino hydrogen and carboxyl oxygen of the compounds. As a result, the carboxyl group cannot be rotated freely, and the rotation of the second aromatic ring is the main reason for the conformational variations of the compounds. The ECEPP force fields via the program CONBIO were used throughout this study.

  • YBCO step-edge dc SQUID magnetometers on sapphire substrates have been fabricated. CeO2 buffer layer and YBCO films were deposited in situ on the low angle (${\sim}$35$^{\circ}$) steps formed on the sapphire substrates. Typical 5-${\mu}$m-wide junction has R$_n$ of 5 ${\omega}$ and I$_c$ of 50 ${\mu}$A with large I$_c$R$_n$ product of 250 ${\mu}$V at 77K. According to applied bias current, depth of voltage modulation was changed and maximum voltage was measured 16 ${\mu}$V. Field noise of do SQUID was measured 100${\sim}$300 fT/${\surd}^{Hz}$ in the 1 $^{kHz}$, and about 1.5 pT/${\surd}^{Hz}$ in the 1/f region. For ac bias reversal method, field noise was decreased in the 1/f region. The QRS peak of magnetocardiogram was measured 50 pT in the magnetically shielded room.
