  • The implementation of PI controller with the FPGA is for controlling the speed of DC motor in the digital system. FPGA is assigned to 1. Outer speed control loop. The signal from the speed comparison will be in the PI controlling form transfer function of Direct Form I or PI Parallel Form. 2.Inner current control loop. The signal from the current comparison will be converted into switching function in sliding mode condition. Its output will be a controller of DC motor in the next step. The result from using FPGA will be close to the value of simulation in the analog control system. The sampling rate 40 kHz and 16 bit of 2's complement data are defined in this presentation.

A Novel Concept of Phase Swapping for Multiple Enhanced Speed Operations of a PM machine using Winding Switching

  • This paper presents a novel concept of phase swapping to associate multiple flux weakening ranges to a non-salient PM machine without altering any hardware of the machine. The proposed concept enables a dual three-phase machine to be operated with different displacement angles between the two three-phase windings. Hence, different flux weakening ranges using winding switching can be accomplished by applying this concept. It was also demonstrated that the proposed concept can be utilized for the discrete step as well as continuous operation of the machines. Any application requiring a wide speed range operation of up to thirteen times the base speed can benefit from this proposed concept. Analytical, simulation, and experimental results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed concept.

The Suitability of European Designed Wind Turbines for the East Asian Market

  • A first step review is completed on the suitability of European designed wind turbines in an East Asia climate. Six parameters are chosen for detailed analysis of proper meteorological measures from flat, hilly, forested, coastal and offshore sites in West Europe and East Asia: mean wind speed, 10 minute mean wind speed distribution, turbulence intensity, wind shear, 3 second extreme wind speed and 10 minute direction change. All six parameters are assessed with a view for contrast with the wind turbine design standard IEC61400. The diurnal and seasonal variation, average and extreme values of each parameter are calculated where appropriate. Industry standard software and analysis techniques have been employed to assess the applicability of existing wind turbine design standards and design guidelines for the East Asian market.

  • Pitch control of wind turbine is activated above rated wind speed for the purpose of rated power regulation. When we design pitch controller, its gain-scheduling is essential due to nonlinear characteristics of aerodynamic torque. In this study, 2-mass model including a vibration mode of drive-train for a 2 MW wind turbine is considered and pitch control with gain-scheduling using a linearization analysis of the nonlinear aerodynamic torque is applied. Some simulation results for the pitch gain-scheduling under step wind speed are presented and investigated. It is shown that gain-scheduling in pitch control is important especially in the region of high wind speeds when there exists a vibration mode of drive-train.

DVD 드라이브내에서 발생하는 유동소음에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study on the Characteristic of Aeroacoustic Noise in DVD Drive)

  • This paper focuses on the numerical prediction of airflow-induced sound in DVD drives. As a first step, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is conducted to evaluate flow field characteristics due to the high-speed disk rotation, and to support the acoustic analysis. Acoustic analogy based on Ffowcs Wi1liams-Hawkings (FW-H) equation is adopted to predict aeroacoustic noise patterns. The integral solution for quadrupole volume source is included to identify the turbulence noise generated inside the DVD tray. The strength of sound pressure revel with respect to rotating speed is discussed to meet upfront demand on the high fidelity product development. The present study also focuses on the noise directivity and examines how much the sound noise is sensitive to change in rotating speed. Near-field noise is strongly affected by the flow field characteristic, which is caused by the complex shape of the tray. For a mid-field, the quadrupole noise play as a counterpart of thickness noise or loading noise, so it generates different sound noise Patterns compared with those in the near field.

  • As the on-board electric devices determine the performances of vehicles, production of reliable devices is important. To keep the reliability of devices constant, management of performance evaluation of the on-board devices is crucial. Because temperature bas a serious effect on failures of the components of the devices, its measurement is the first step for good management. In this study, we described performance characteristics of domestic auxiliary block developed through G7 project. We measured the performances of auxiliary block during test running by the developed on-line measurement system. After we save the input real-time data from each signal of Korean High Speed Train through the network line, we can acquire necessary information through Post-Processing program. We verify the auxiliary converter characteristics of Korean High Speed Train by this system.

  • This paper presents a study on fuzzy speed and flux controller used in a vector control of a CRPWM(Current Ragulated PWM) induction motor drive. In this paper, an approach for an easier design of the fuzzy controller is presented in order to obtain the desired value for the response time with minimal overshoot and to improve the steady state performance for speed step commands. The fuzzy controller is constructed only upon the knowledge of the motor behaviour and the desired speed response, and provides fast and robust control by reducing the effects of nonlinearities, parameter changes and load disturbance. The results of applying the fuzzy logic controller to an IM drive system are compared with those obtained by application of a conventional PI controller. The fuzzy controller provided a better response than the PI controller.

A Novel High Speed Frequency Sweeping Signal Generator in X-band Based on Tunable Optoelectronic Oscillator

  • A novel X-band high speed frequency sweep signal generator based on a tunable optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) incorporating a frequency-swept laser is presented and the theoretical fundamentals of the design are explained. A prototype of the generator with tuning range from 8.8552 GHz to 10.3992 GHz and a fine step about 8 MHz is achieved. The generated radiofrequency signal with a single sideband (SSB) phase noise lower than -100 dBc/Hz@10KHz is experimentally demonstrated within the whole tunable range, without any narrow RF band-pass filters in the loop. And the tuning speed of the frequency sweep signal generator can reach to over 1 GHz/s benefiting from applying a novel dispersion compensation modular instead of several tens of kilometers of optical fiber delay line in the system.

  • This paper discusses the basic principle of vector control applied to induction motors. A indirect strategy for impressed stator currents control is used for system modeling. IRFOC for induction motor was modelled using "Matlab with Simulink" IRFOC be applied to 15kW induction motor is simulated in different conditions; step changes in torque at a fixed reference speed, and cyclic change of speed reference. Simulation result considering the variation of stator, rotor resistance includes the response of speed, torque and rotor d-q fluxes.

  • In this paper, as the first step to assess and enhance the reliability of Korea High Speed Train, an electric traction system is selected and reliability analysis is carried out. The electric traction system is classified into subsystems and functional block diagrams and reliability block diagrams are drawn. Expressions for evaluating the reliability are derived and Mean Kilometer Between Service Failure is calculated using the trial track test results. The calculation results show reliability growth of the proposed system.
