  • The performance of a deep water drillship, is investigated with the view of the characteristics of the thrusters and the resistance increasement due to moonpooi. The model tests have been performed to obtain the resistance of two drillships with the moonpooi open and closed including shape changes of moonpool step. To design the DP system, thrust forces of azimuth thrusters have been measured during azimuthing at zero speed condition. Thrusters, azimuthing under the bottom of ship, have the interactions of the other thrusters due to flow changes made by other thrusters, and the existence of ship hull makes the thrust deduction higher than when the thrust operates by itself. The resistance increasement due to the moonpooi is highly dependent on the step height of the moonpool and the draft. It is found that the height of moonpool step can reduce the resistance increasement by moonpool.

  • In this study, a design for a shape of centrifugal pump impeller has been performed using a p.c. under a Windows environment. Interaction between a user and a computer has been easily established using the Visual Basic. In determining an outer diameter of an impeller, steps are divided into two, a basic computational step and a refinment step. In this way user can enter his/her experience at the refinment step and hence can expect to lessen the nonlinear nature inherent to the design. In determining a shape of a side view of an impeller, the Bezier cubic curve has been used, and it can be seen that the Bezier cubic curves are well suited in the shape design under a Windows environment. By simply manipulating the four control points, one can generate various cubic curves among which one is selected. Also, a simple method, which can determine the curved position of an impeller vane, has been developed. These data can be used for final CAD drawings.

  • Efficient algorithm for the solidification simulation by FDM is described from the practical point of views. If a proper time step ${\Delta}t$ is selected, the calculation is accelerated by implicit algorithm with the temperature recovery method of latent heat method. The implicit routine in the calculation is processed by SOR method(relaxation factor=1.5, truncation error=$10^{-4}$). The calculation is more accelerated by linear-interpolated explicite algorithm with a time step larger than the minimum value of the time step. This explicit method, which is applicable to the practical casting simulation problems, produces almost same results with about 40% faster calculation speed compared with the conventional explicit method.

  • The differential heterodyne interferometer (DHI) is suitable for precise measurement of step height and line width, since its differential configuration can significantly reduce disturbances from the environment [1,2]. Like most phase measuring interferometers, however, the DHI is limited, in that it can obtain only the phase from 0 to 2π, because of the sinusoidal nature of the optical interference involved. Thus, the measurable step height is limited to one quarter of the wavelength of the light source. This study describes a confocal differential heterodyne interferometer (CDHI) for measuring step heights of several micrometers, with a high resolution and line width with high repeatability. The CDHI has a simple structure and rapid measurement speed.

  • In this paper, we propose two novel blind LMS algorithms, called exponential step sire LMS algorithms (ES-LMS), for adaptive array antennas whose convergence speed is increased, hence they are much more capable of tracking the desired signal than the conventional LMS algorithms. Both of the algorithms require neither spatial knowledge nor reference signals since they use the finite symbol property of digital signal. Computer simulations were carried cot in CDMA environment affected by multi-path Rayleigh fading to verify the performance of the two proposed algorithms.

  • This report is the study for laser scanning. Scanning control of $CO_2$ laser, He-Ne laser, used for the treatment of body skin, has relatively low band about hundered Hz. It could be used as a substitiute for expensive galvanometer that is the established scan method, which operates the number of KHz movement by using step motor when it operates low speed. To increase the accuracy of step motor's the angle of rotation, We could materialize 100Hz low band by using open loop, closed loop method with microprocessor. This causes it to be stable even direction by attaching electric capacity sensor. Therefore, We could expect to reduce the cost by manufacturing low band scanner rather than costly feedback galvanometer.

  • We have investigated the microstructural properties of a weakly charged polyelectrolyte modeled with both Hookean spring and Debye-Huckel potential, by employing a novel hybrid scheme of molecular dynamics (MD) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. Although the off-lattice pivot step facilitates the earlier computations stage, it gives rise to oscillations and hinders the stable equilibrium state. In order to overcome this problem, we adopt the MC off-lattice pivot step in early stage only, and then switch the computation to a pure MD step. The result shows that the computational speed-up compared to the previous method is entirely above 10 to 50, without loss of the accuracy. We examined the conformations of polyelectrolyte in solvents in terms of the end-to-end distance, radius of gyration, and structure factor with variations of the screening effects of solvent and the monomer charges. The emphasis can favorably be given on the elongation behavior of a polyelectrolyte chain, with observing the simultaneous snapshots.

  • In the automotive industry, cold-drawn austenitic stainless steel is commonly used to handle high fuel pressures in gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines. In this study, we analyzed the effects of main process variables such as cross-sectional shape, drawing speed and friction coefficient on the microstructure, hardness and residual stress of the drawn material in the two-step cold drawing process. By changing the cross-sectional shape in the first-step cold drawing, the possibility of improving the shape accuracy or physical properties of the finally cold-drawn fuel rail pressure sensor product was investigated.

  • This study aimed to investigate the random vibration characteristic of train-slab track-bridge interaction system subjected to both track irregularities and earthquakes by use of pseudo-excitation method (PEM). Each vehicle subsystem was modeled by multibody dynamics. A three-dimensional rail-slab- girder-pier finite element model was created to simulate slab track and bridge subsystem. The equations of motion for the entire system were established based on the constraint condition of no jump between wheel and rail. The random load vectors of equations of motion were formulated by transforming track irregularities and seismic accelerations into a series of deterministic pseudo-excitations according to their respective power spectral density (PSD) functions by means of PEM. The time-dependent PSDs of random vibration responses of the system were obtained by step-by-step integration method, and the corresponding extreme values were estimated based on the first-passage failure criterion. As a case study, an ICE3 high-speed train passing a fifteen-span simply supported girder bridge simultaneously excited by track irregularities and earthquakes is presented. The evaluated extreme values and the PSD characteristic of the random vibration responses of bridge and train are analyzed, and the influences of train speed and track irregularities (without earthquakes) on the random vibration characteristic of bridge and train are discussed.

  • This study experimentally investigates the performance improvement of the heat pump by adopting the hot gas bypass method and using the internal heat exchanger according to the automatic defrost test conditions of ISO 5151 This study compares the hot gas bypass method with the time step method, and investigates effect on outdoor coil fan speed when the hot gas of compressor outlet enter outdoor coil inlet after the frost formation. The tests were made for the fan speeds of the outdoor coil controlled at 90, 60 and 30% of the normal speed together with the case of the stationary fan. The performance of the heat pump is evaluated by variables such as COP, heat capacity, and the average COP during the 210 minutes heating mode. Results show that average COP of the hot gas bypass mettled is $2.2{\sim}6%$ higher than that of the time step method. When the outdoor coil fan speed is 60% (780 rpm) of the normal speed, it shows the best COP and heating capacity.
