The purpose of this study was to evaluate how the friction that occurs during the sliding movement of the archwire through esthetic brackets is differently affected by bracket materials, slot designs, and tip angulations of the archwire. Methods: Eight types of brackets with 0.018 inch slots (composite: Brillant (BR); composite with metal slot: Spirit MB (SP); ceramic: Inspire (IN), Signature (SI), Cristaline V (CR); ceramic with metal slot: Clarity (CL), Luxi II (LU); and metal bracket: Integra (IT)), and placed into groups of 20 brackets in each group, were tested in artificial saliva with 0.018 inch stainless steel wire. The wire tip angulations were given as 0, 4 and 8 degrees. Results: CR group significantly showed the lowest frictional force with all wire tip angulations of 0,4, and 8 degrees. IN significantly showed the highest frictional force (p < 0.001). BR (polyoxymethylene) had significantly less frictional force than SP (polycarbonate) (p < 0.001) and showed no significant difference between metal brackets. Friction was increased as the wire tip angulations were increased, but no notches were observed on any parts of the archwire. Conclusions: According to the results of this study, esthetic brackets are superior or similar to 55 brackets from a frictional point of view.
Guiding a tooth along an arch wire results in a counteracting frictional force among arch wires, bracket and ligature. This frictional forces should be eliminated or minimized when orthodontic teeth movement is being planned. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes of width, cross-sectional forms and surface morphologies of stainless steel wire and $Elgiloy^{\circledR}$ wire after electropolising. Experimental variables included in this experiment were arch wire materials, current, electrolyte temperature and polishing time. Wire widths were measured by micrometer and cross-sectional forms and surface morphologies were examined with optical microscope and scanning electron microcope. The results were as follows: 1. The mean and standard deviation of widths of stainless steel wire and $Elgiloy^{\circledR}$ wire varying polishing time with condition of $249A/dm^2$ and $20^{\circ}C,\;249A/dm^2$ and, $332A/dm^2$ and $20^{\circ}C$ and $332A/dm^2$ and $250^{\circ}C$ were obtained. 2. With increasing polishing time, the widths of stainless steel wire and $Elgiloy^{\circledR}$ wire became decreased proportionally 3. The changes of widths of stainless steel wire and $Elgiloy^{\circledR}$ wire were statistically insignificant between $20^{\circ}C$ group and $25^{\circ}C$ group, but significant between $249A/dm^2$ group and $332A/dm^2$ group. 4 The cross-sectional forms of wire after electropolishing were not changed in stainless steel wire, and while it were changed to rounded corners in $Elgiloy^{\circledR}$ wire. 5. The surface morphologies of wire after electropolishing were scratch-absent and more smoothened both in stainless steel wire and $Elgiloy^{\circledR}$ wire.

This paper focuses on steel arrays regarding the application of PV system for solar power system, a renewable energy in steel structure stadium that will be built in Korea, by foreign case study. 20 cases of Steel Structure Stadiums applying PV system after 1990 were selected as the main subjects. The 20 cases of Steel Structure Stadiums were categorized by rail systems that were installed to fix PV module. As the result, linear clamping and roof-integrated type among cross rails were 28% of the whole, followed by 17% of rail-fixed type and 11% of module group-fixed type among vertical-fixed types. In addition, linear clamping and roof-integrated type among cross rails were applied in the inside of the stadium while the outside and other parts of stadiums used angle bracket to fix PV module.
Optimal orthodontic treatment could be possible when a orthodontist can predict and control tooth movement by applying a planned force system to the dentition. The moment to force(M/F) ratio at the bracket, has been shown to be a primary determinate of the pattern of tooth movement. As various n/F ratios are applied to the bracket on the tooth crown, strain distribution in periodontium can be changed, and the center of rotation in tooth movement can be determined. It is, therefore, so important in clinicalorthodontics to know the strain distribution in a force system of a M/F ratio. The purpose of this study was to analyze the strain distribution in orthodontic force system by strain gauge attached to tooth root, and to evaluate the usage of the method. For this study, an experimental upper anterior arch model was constructed, where upper central incisors, on the root surface of which, 8 strain gauges were attached, were implanted In the photoelastic resin, as in the case of 4mm midline diastema. Three types of closing of upper midline diastema closure were compared : 1. with elastomeric chain(100g force) in no arch wire, 2. elastomeric chain in .016“ round steel wire, 3. elastomeric chain in .016”x.022“ rectangular steel wire. The results were as follows. 1. Strain distributions on labial, lingual, mesial and distal root surface of tooth were able to be evaluated with the strain gauge method, and the patterns of tooth rotation were understood by presuming the location of moment arm. 2. Extrusion and tipping movement of tooth was seen in closing in no arch wire, and intrusion and bodily movement was seen with steel arch wire inserted.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress distribution in the periodontal tissue and the displacement of teeth when active torque was applied to the maxillary incisors by three-dimensional finite element analysis A three-dimensional finite element model consisted of the maxillary teeth and surrounding periodontal membrane, $.022{\times}.028$ Roth prescription bracket and stainless steel, NiTi and TMA rectangular ideal arch wires which were modeled by hexahedron elements. Applied active torques were 2, 5 and 10 degrees ThHe findings of this study showed that the reaction force acting or the bracket was the extrusion force on the mesial side of the incisors and canine and the intrusion force on the distal side of the incisors and canine. The amount of force and moment was greatest at the lateral incisor. When active anterior labial crown torque was applied. labial crown and distal tipping and Intrusion of the incisors took place. and lingual crown distal tipping and extrusion of the canine occured. An excessive force was concentrated on the lateral incisor, when the stainless steel wire was used NiTi or TMA wire is desirable for torque control.

This paper deals with development of brackets by using aluminum alloy sheets which is indispensable for weight reduction of autobody. The press formability of aluminum alloy sheet is estimated by means of tensile test, V bending test, sample manufacturing test and photograph of microstructure. The results show that the elongation, strength, work hardening exponent, plastic anisotropy coefficient of Al 6***series are better than those of Al 5***series, but for general press formability, Al 5***series are better than Al 6***series due to lower yield strength. Since most of mechanical properties of aluminum sheet are generally inferior to those of cold-rolled steel sheet, shape fixability and press formability of aluminum sheet are very poor. For making components of autobody by use of die for steel sheet application, it is essential that die should be nodified for least bending and stretching. With the modified die for aluminum, it could be possible to make brackets, the component of autobody. Microstructure of Al 5***series has fine grain and small the 2nd phase and that of Al 6***series has relatively coarse grain. Therefore, it seems that fine grain and small the 2nd phase of Al 5***series is one of the factor of lower yield strength, resistance to stamping work, formation of Luder's line.
Background: FCTC10 container is designed to transport $^{60}Co$ radioactive sources used in irradiation industry. It belongs to Type B(U) Category III (yellow) package when being loaded with a $^{60}Co$ source of $1.8{\times}10^5$ Ci. Materials and Methods: The container is constituted of shielding container, basket, protective cover and bracket. Shielding ability is provided mainly by stainless steel shells, tungsten alloy and lead among steel shells. Radiation level around the container has been calculated with both Monte Carlo simulations and measurements. Results and Discussion: It is proven that the shielding performance of the container fulfills the requirements in GB11806-2004 (Regulations for the safe transport of radioactive material, China Standard Press). Exposure doses to workers and to critical groups of public were calculated based on hypothetical exposure scene according to transport practice experience. Conclusion: The results show that doses to workers and public are less than the constraint dose considered in design, and the radiation level would be increased less than a factor of 2 under design basis accidents.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the micro-implant height and anterior hook height to prevent maxillary six anterior teeth from lingual tipping and extruding during space closure. We manufactured maxillary dental arch form, bracket and wire, using the computer aided three-dimensional finite element method. Bracket was $.022'{\times}.028'$ slot size and attached to tooth surface. Wire was $.019'{\times}.025'$ stainless steel and $.032'{\times}.032'$ stainless steel hook was attached to wire between lateral incisor and canine. Length of hook was 8mm and force application points were marked at intervals of In. Four micro-implants were implanted on alveolar bone between second premolar and first molar. The heights of them were 4, 6, 8, 10mm starting from wire. We analyzed initial displacement of teeth by various force application point applying force of 150gm to each micro-implant and anterior hook. The conclusions of 4his study are as the following : 1. When the micro-implant height was 4m and the anterior hook height was 5mm and below, anterior teeth were tipped lingually. When the anterior hook height was 6mm and above, anterior teeth were tipped labially. 2. When the micro-implant height was 6mm and the anterior hook height was 6mm and below, the anterior teeth were tipped lingually. When the anterior hook height was 6m and above, the anterior teeth were tipped labially. But lingual tipping of anterior teeth decreased and labial tipping Increased when the micro-implant height was 6mm, compared with 4mm micro-implant height. 3. When the micro-implant height was 8mm and the anterior hook height was 2mm, the anterior teeth were tipped lingually. When the anterior hook height was 3mm and above, labial tipping movement of the anterior teeth increased proportionally. 4. When the micro-implant height was 10mm and the anterior hook height was 2mm and above, labial tipping of the anterior teeth increased proportionally. 5. As the anterior hook height increased, aterior teeth were tipped more labially. But extrusion occurred on canine and premolar area because of the increase of wire distortion. 6. Movement of the posterior teeth was tipped distally during maxillary six anterior teeth retraction using micro-im plant because of the friction between bracket and were Based on the results of this study, we could predict the pattern of the tooth movement according to position of micro-implant and height of anterior hook. It seems that we can find the force application point for proper tooth movement in consideration of inclination of anterior anterior teeth, periodontal condition, overjet and overbite
This article describes the orthodontic treatment of a 25-year-old Korean female patient with anterior crowding, including palatally displaced lateral incisors. Her facial profile was satisfactory, but 3.5 mm of maxillary anterior crowding was observed. To correct this crowding, we decided to minimize the use of the conventional fixed orthodontic appliances and employed a less bulky and more aesthetic appliance for applying light continuous force. We determined the final positions of the maxillary teeth via a working model for diagnostic set up and achieved space gaining and alignment with simple Ni-Ti spring and stainless steel round tubes. Tooth alignment was achieved efficiently and aesthetically without the conventional brackets.

In contrast to the conventional intake manifold of steel or aluminum material, the lst natural frequency range of plastic intake manifold becomes very lower to ca. 40Hz. That causes negative effects on the engine control unit installed inside the throttle body. In this paper, support design concepts to increase the natural frequency range larger than max. 200Hz are suggested based on the vibration analysis results using finite-element method. In conclusion, it is shown that the vibration level can be reduced most effectively by the installation of the neck support bracket between the throttle body and the plenum chamber.
