  • This study sets a goal of establishing work standard and standard time in a machine tool process consisted of high-priced NC machine tools. Firstly, the theories of work standard and standard time in the field of NC machine tools are studies. Secondly, the theories are actually applied to a manufacturing company; work standard sheets are developed and applied to a machining center haying low operation rate, and then the increase in productivity is compared. Finally, problems to be studied later in relation to work standard and standard time are presented.

Work Measurement of Dietetic Staff through Work Sampling Methodology in School Foodservice Systems (워크샘플링에 의한 학교급식 전담직원의 직무분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the standard work time of dietetic staff through work sampling methodology in school flood service systems. Work measurement through work sampling methodology was conducted in five conventional, five commissary and five joint management flood service systems over two consecutive weeks in October 1999. Statistical analysis was performed on the SAS/Win 6.12 package program for Kruskal-Wallis test and multiple comparison. Observed data were satisfied with a confidence level of 95% and a confidence interval of $\pm$ 0.05. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. The actual time spent by dietetic staff members in conventional, commissary, joint-management flood servile systems was 2,394, 2,521 and 2,110 minutes per week, respectively. Transportation time of each flood service systeml and ILO allowance rate (11%) was applied. Thus, the standard work time per week of dietetic staff members in conventional, commissary, joint-management flood service systems was 2,746.14, 2,861.58 and 2,520.81 minutes, respectively. The standardized index was 1.04, 1.08 and 0.95 men in conventional, commissary, and joint-management flood service systems, respectively. Regardless of the school flood service system, those with "the duty of cooking and distribution management" had the longest labor time, while those with "duty of nutritional education" had the shortest labor time.

A Study on the Applicability of PTS to Establish Standard Time for Agricultural Work of Korea

  • Objective: This study aims to analyze qualitatively if PTS methods are applicable to the agricultural works of Korea. Background: Many studies on setting standard time have been performed for manufacturing and service industries, not many studies on agricultural work have been carried out domestically and internationally. Method: MTM, MOST, Work Factor, MODAPTS were applied to some agricultural works, and limitations of each method were found out. Results: MTM was found to be more applicable than other methods, except for mental works. Conclusion: In general, many Korean agricultural works need squat postures, which are not taken into account in most of PTS methods. Continuous observation with stop watch is recommended for establishing the standard time for the agricultural works of Korea. Application: The information drawn from this study would be helpful to the farmer safety assurance system being established by Korean government.

A Study on the Method and Work Measurement for Productivity Improvement of Clothing Products-With concentration in MTM Analysis- (의류제품의 생산성 향상을 위한 방법 및 작업측정에 관한 연구-MTM법을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to improve productivity for maximum effects with the present equipments and staff. This study compared and analyzed the mea-sured time by using stop watch method and MTM, which was the new measuring method. The flow and results of this study were as follows: 1. This study investigated the theoretical background the efficiency for production management, and the way of productivity improvement through documentary research. 2. Setting up the standard flow on the experi-mental company production, making out a process chart and measuring the actual working hour. 3. The study measured the allowance time applying work sampling. 4. Each process of the movement analysis was filmed by video to use basic data. 5. MTM analysis was taken by choosing 10 processes from front bodice according to the basic movement of MTM. Through the results, this study exclude unneccesary movements and suggest a method for working ways. 6. Using the actual working hour measured by a stop watch calculated the pitch time and presumed the amount of daily productivity. 7. The result of the work sampling came out as 38% of allowance rate. It was 13% higher than the standard amount of woman's jacket allowance rate, which was 25%. The most influencing factor was work discussion. That was because there were commuication problem of the work way between the operator and leader. More adequate use of flow table and level passing table was needed. There were the problems that inappropriate places and sizes made the distance of movements longer and often needed more adjustment of works and surroundings. To prevent breakdowns equipments check ups were necessary before works. 8. The results of MTM analysis were as follow : the time was reduced 40% than the actual measured time by a stop watch. This was because the leveling of the operator was included in the real calculation. Also, leveling was included in MTM analysis and all the conditions were standarized. Therefore MTM method was a scientidic measuring way of establishing the standard time. The presented method of this study, suggested an ideal method eliminating unneccesary motions, and presented standardization of works. Improvement of working methods, work condition and simplifying motions in each 10 processes reduced the working time from total 656 seconds to 301 seconds. 9. The way and time of working was linked together in the MTM analysis methods. Thus data from MTM help suggest not only establishing standard time but also establishing stan-dard work. Plus it includes various ability for improvements of working ways. So it is an objective method which can be widely used in other work studies. 10. The function of a time study is to determine the amount of work produced with a given method. The work rate is used to establish the cost of labor. The wage of worker must be calculated per unit time which is deter-mined before the time study is made. This study tried to introduce the incentive rule for deciding wages according to the standard time by MTM method.

  • The object of this paper is to Study the work measurement which is one of the principal technique in work study for the improvement of Productivity in the foundry industry. Most of domestic mechanical enterprise using the expensive foreign machinerise is inoufficient for the standardization of the operation method and time. Therefore, the improvement of operation and productivity through the introduction of the work measurement is an urgent task. Therefore, this paper is contribute to the improvement of operation and to reduce the loss time through the application of the work measurement based on the case study conducted at W-Foundry Corporation. The summary of this study is follows; 1. The measurement of operation efficiency can be accomplished by the standard time. 2. The detailed causes and counter-proposal of loss time can be established, 3. More than 50% of loss time is attributed to c/p.

  • In these days, the PCs are widely used in the mid-level factory. But they have low-effectiveness for using them. The main reason should be the lack of useful and practical software in the market. This Case study aimed at the support of the software using DB Language to get M/M chart for aquiring work study and standard time data in the mid-level factory having multi-item and multi-process type. CVA (Chronocycle Video Analysis) is applied to get basic standard time data and working list. Standard time, Sequence of working and allowance time or rate for man and machine will be readily obtained through the menu when the software executing. Detailed program list is systematically shown in Appendix.

  • This study was carried out to furnish information for the appropriate standard work time measure and applicate system development that help for korean manufacturers. As a research methodology of the study, the questionnaire survey by sampling nine hundreds registerd corporation, was conducted to find the scientific management technique level (for especially standard work time). By crossectionally analyzing the survey results, placed primary emphasis on the study to comparison with employee scale and types of industry classify.   • In recent years, a number of robot work measurement systems have been developed. This study discusses CARS (Computer Aided Romum System) which is to computerize the existed manual version ROMUM (RObot Modularization of the Unit Motion) method as the predetermined time system for robot work measurement. The ROMUM was developed to establish the standard time of work through modularize the unit motions in robot tasks. The CARS is designed on a menu driven form by computer assist for user interface and then interacts with user effectively. Therefore, the system can provide the convenience of use and minimization of analysis time and degree of judgement for establishing standard time.

  • This study examined the work time, work posture, and work intensity for the actual measurement step in forest road the design work that was being carried out. The measurement of the forest road was being carried by a team of three workers and a team of four workers. The examination of work time found that the measurement of 1km took about 8 hours for the four-worker team and 12 hours for the three-worker team. The examination of work intensity found that the energy metabolic rates of the three-worker team were lower than four-worker team. Because their energy consumption per minute decreased as their work time and rest time increased. Furthermore, when appropriate rest time was applied according to work time, the energy metabolic rate decreased and the work intensity became lower. The four-worker team was more advantageous from the time and cost aspects of the forest road measurement work. Furthermore, as the rest time was very low compared to the work time, more efficient forest road measurement work would be possible if the work intensity was lowered by considering the rest time when calculating the standard work time.

  • The definition of cycle time is the time from the wafer start to the wafer output. It usually takes one or two months to get the product since customer decides to produce it. The cycle time is a critical factor for customer satisfaction because it represents the response time to the market. Long cycle time reflects the ineffective investment for the capital. The cycle time is very important for foundry because long cycle time will cause customer unsatisfied and the order loss. Consequently, all of the foundries put lots of human source in the cycle time improvement. Usually, we make decisions based on the experience in the cycle time management. We have no mechanism or theory for cycle time management. We do work-in-process (WIP) management based on turn rate and standard WIP (STD WIP) set by experiences. But the experience didn't mean the optimal solution, when the situation changed, the cycle time or the standard WIP will also be changed. The experience will not always be applicable. If we only have the experience and no mechanism, management will not be work out. After interview several foundry fab managers, all of the fab can't reflect the situation. That is, all of them will have an impact period after product mix or utilization varied. In this study, we want to develop a formula for standard WIP and use statistical process control (SPC) concept to set WIP upper/lower limit level. When WIP exceed the limit level, it will trigger action plans to compensate WIP Profile. If WIP Profile balances, we don't need too much WIP. So WIP level could be reduced and cycle time also could be reduced.
