The ability to perform the same operations in the transform domain as in the spatial domain is important for efficient image transmission through a channel. We perform image resizing, which includes magnifying and reducing the size, in the discrete cosine transform(DCT) domain and the effects of the transform domain approach are analyzed in the corresponding spatial domain. Based on this analysis, the two resizing algorithms are proposed. The first one further compresses the images encoded by the compression standard by reducing the size before compression, and the other reduces the loss of information while maintaining the conventional compression rate. Because of its compatibility with standard codec, these algorithms can be easily embedded in JPEG and MPEG codecs, which are widely used for the purpose of image storage and transmission. Experimental results show a reduction of about half the bit size with similar image quality and about a 2- or 3-dB quality improvements in the similar compression rate.

Fully and partially grown hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) on Cu foil, synthesized by chemical vapor deposition method, was studied using Raman and SEM measurements. Fully and partially grown samples were successfully made from borane-ammonia complex to controlling pressure and growth time. The fully grown h-BN and partially grown h-BN exhibits a ~ 1370 cm-1 B-N vibrational mode (E2g). Especially, well-aligned triangular h-BN monolayer was observed on some domain of Cu foil using SEM measurements.

Total variation minimization is standard in mathematical imaging and there have been numerous researches over the last decades. In order to process large-scale images in real-time, it is essential to design parallel algorithms that utilize distributed memory computers efficiently. The aim of this paper is to illustrate recent advances of domain decomposition methods for total variation minimization as parallel algorithms. Domain decomposition methods are suitable for parallel computation since they solve a large-scale problem by dividing it into smaller problems and treating them in parallel, and they already have been widely used in structural mechanics. Differently from problems arising in structural mechanics, energy functionals of total variation minimization problems are in general nonlinear, nonsmooth, and nonseparable. Hence, designing efficient domain decomposition methods for total variation minimization is a quite challenging issue. We describe various existing approaches on domain decomposition methods for total variation minimization in a unified view. We address how the direction of research on the subject has changed over the past few years, and suggest several interesting topics for further research.
The dynamic response of two-dimensional unbounded domain on the rigid bedrock in the time domain is numerically obtained. It is realized by the modified scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) in which the original scaling center is replaced by a scaling line. The formulation bases on expanding dynamic stiffness by using the continued fraction approach. The solution converges rapidly over the whole time range along with the order of the continued fraction increases. In addition, the method is suitable for large scale systems. The numerical method is employed which is a combination of the time domain SBFEM for far field and the finite element method used for near field. By using the continued fraction solution and introducing auxiliary variables, the equation of motion of unbounded domain is built. Applying the spectral shifting technique, the virtual modes of motion equation are eliminated. Standard procedure in structural dynamic is directly applicable for time domain problem. Since the coefficient matrixes of equation are banded and symmetric, the equation can be solved efficiently by using the direct time domain integration method. Numerical examples demonstrate the increased robustness, accuracy and superiority of the proposed method. The suitability of proposed method for time domain simulations of complex systems is also demonstrated.
On June 27, 2002 Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) launched dot-ca domain name dispute resolution service through BCICAC and Resolution Canada, Inc. The Domain name Dispute Resolution Policy (CDRP) of CIRA is basically modelled after Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy(UDRP), while the substance of CDRP is slightly modified to meet the need of Canadian domain name regime and its legal system. Firstly, this article examined CIRA's domain name dispute resolution policy in general. It is obvious that the domain name dispute resolution proceeding is non-binding arbitration to which arbitration law does not apply. However it still belongs to the arbitration and far from the usual mediation process. Domain name arbitrators render decision rather than assist disputing parties themselves reach to agreement. In this respect the domain name arbitration is similar to arbitration or litigation rather than mediation. Secondly it explored how the panels applied the substantive standards in domain name arbitration. There is some criticism that panelists interprets the test of "confusingly similar" in conflicting manner. As a result critics assert that courts' judicial review is necessary to reduce the conflicting interpretation on the test of substantive standards stipulated in paragraph 3 of CDRP. Finally, it analysed the court's position on domain name arbitral award. Canadian courts do not seem to establish a explicit standard for judicial review over it yet. However, in Black v. Molson case Ontario Superior Court applied the UDRP rules in examining the WIPO panel's decision, while US courts often apply domestic patent law and ACPA(Anticyber -squatting Consumer's Protection Act) to review domain name arbitration decision rather than UDRP rules. In conclusion this article suggests that courts should restrict their judicial review on domain name administrative panel's decision at best. This will lead to facilitating the use of ADR in domain name dispute resolution and reducing the burden of courts' dockets.
Recently XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is becoming the standard for exchanging the documents on the web. And as the amount of information is increasing because of the development of the technique in the Internet, semantic web is becoming to appear for more exact result of information retrieval than the existing one on the web. Ontology which is the basis of the semantic web provides the basic knowledge system to express a particular knowledge. So it can show the exact result of the information retrieval. Ontology defines the particular concepts and the relationships between the concepts about specific domain and it has the hierarchy similar to the taxonomy. In this paper, we propose the generation of semi-automatic ontology based on XML documents that are interesting to many researchers as the means of knowledge expression. To construct the ontology in a particular domain, we suggest the algorithm to determine the domain. So we determined that the domain of ontology is to extract the information of movie on the web. And we used the generalized association rules, one of data mining methods, to generate the ontology, using the tag and contents of XML documents. And XTM (XML Topic Maps), ISO Standard, is used to construct the ontology as an ontology language. The advantage of this method is that because we construct the ontology based on the terms frequently used documents related in the domain, it is useful to query and retrieve the related domain.

In the 2009 revised science curriculum, comprehensive verbs such as 'know (38%)' and 'understand (46%)' are used in more than 80% of the achievement standard. Many readers, such as teachers, textbook makers, etc. have difficulties in interpreting the meaning of achievement standard sentences with these comprehensive verbs. On the other hand, 'Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS)' uses more various and specific verbs to express the cognitive domain. In this study, we analyzed the 2009 revised science curriculum achievement standard focusing on the TIMSS cognitive domain assessment framework. We divided achievement standard to 228 sentences and three teachers analyzed the meaning of verbs in achievement standard. There were two main results of this study. First, the verb 'Know' was analyzed into different kinds of meanings, such as 'Describe (27%)', 'Recall/Recognize (25%)' and 'Relate (17%)', etc; and the verb 'Understand' was analyzed into 'Explain (37%)', 'Relate (27%)' and 'Describe (21%)', etc. Second, there appeared to have a disagreement among the three analysts during the process of interpreting the achievement standards when the level and scope of the contents of each grade is not clear. This study concludes that there's a need for continuous discussion on the use of verbs in achievement standard to promote clearer expressions for better understanding.
The cytoplasmic domains A and B of the mannitol transporter enzyme $II^{Mtl}$ are covalently linked in Escherichia coli, but separately expressed in Thermoanaerobacter Tengcongensis. The phosphorylation of domain B ($TtIIB^{Mtl}$) substantially increases the binding affinity to the domain A ($TtIIA^{Mtl}$) in T. Tengcongensis. To understand the structural basis of the enhanced domain-domain interaction by protein phosphorylation, we obtained NMR backbone assignments of the phospho-$TtIIB^{Mtl}$ using a standard suite of triple resonance experiments. Our results will be useful to monitor chemical shift changes at the active site of phosphorylation and the binding interfaces.
In this paper the problem of calculating the probability that the responses of a wind-excited structure exceed specified thresholds within a given time interval is considered. The failure domain of the problem can be expressed as a union of elementary failure domains whose boundaries are of quadratic form. The Domain Decomposition Method (DDM) is employed, after being appropriately extended, to solve this problem. The probability estimate of the overall failure domain is given by the sum of the probabilities of the elementary failure domains multiplied by a reduction factor accounting for the overlapping degree of the different elementary failure domains. The DDM is extended with the help of Line Sampling (LS), from its original presentation where the boundary of the elementary failure domains are of linear form, to the current case involving quadratic elementary failure domains. An example involving an along-wind excited steel building shows the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed methodology as compared with that obtained using standard Monte Carlo simulations (MCS).
