  • Organized feeding programmes can contribute to the health and well-being of students All such programme must be planned carefully, taking into account the nutritional needs of the group to be fed, available food supplies, facilities for food preparation and distribution, and available funds. In most instances provision must be made for training staff to operate large-scale feeding proframmes. Nutrition education should be an important aspect of all feeding programme, and should provide simple clear information on food and nutrition in relation to health. The early participation of parents and the local community in the programme, particularly through the production of local low-cost foods of high nutritional value will help to insure continuity after external aid has ceased. Programmes should be evaluated in order to measure the benefits obtained in relation to the cost of the operation. Anthropometric data, absenteeism and scholastic achievement may serve as indicators in school feeding programmes.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest implications for maximizing the effectiveness and efficiency of IPP work-learning by studying the effects of the personal characteristics of trainees and firm's field teacher on trainees' employability. The following conclusions were drawn by verifying the causal relationship between factors based on a questionnaire (157 copies) distributed to 200 trainees (learning workers) of 9 universities participating in IPP work-learning training. First, in order to increase the employability of IPP trainees, it is necessary to select trainees with strong core competencies and failure tolerance by verifying individual characteristics of trainees. Secondly, companies should appoint senior staff with strong leadership and teaching capacity as corporate field teachers, and corporate field teacher training institutions should reinforce the training to improve their leadership. Third, work-learning companies should be selected as those with high social integration and absorption capacity, and those companies should try to build an organizational culture of acquiring and learning new technologies. The results of this study are expected to contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of work-learning training by establishing a training system that can systematically select trainees and participating companies and enhance the training capacity of companies and field teachers.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of health promotion policies about antismoking, and the relationship between policy status, enforcement of smoking restrictions and perceptions of smoking behaviour among teachers. A representative sample of 173 teachers$.$school inspectors from 150 elementary$.$middle$.$high schools in Gangwon-do was surveyed during Gangwon-do Office of Education's antismoking and temperance training course in 2002 (response rate 60.7%). One staff member from each school was also analyzed regarding school antismoking polices for students and teachers in several locations within and outside the school building. The results showed that 118 elementary$.$middle$.$high schools (78.7%) had an antismoking policy and more schools had a written policy on student antismoking than on teacher antismoking. Most schools (92.4%) in the sample banned smoking by students, but 52 schools (44.1%) allowed smoking by teachers in restricted areas. However, teachers reported seeing smoking sometimes in the toilets (42.7%) or the playground (40.0%) among students and sometimes in the staff room (31.3%) or about every day on school premises (52.7%) among teachers. Irrespective of the type of policy or restrictions on smoking, the association between having a ban on student/teacher smoking and teachers' perceptions of student/teacher smoking in school was not significant. In conclusion, we suggest that most schools must have explicitly an antismoking policy on both students & teachers and enforce consistently a ban in promoting a healthy school environment(smoke-free schools).

To begin, strategic initiatives for S Hospital were reestablished based on Y Medical Center's goals and objectives. The BSC(Balanced Scorecard) was used to develop performance measurement indicators after validity checks by specialists. The results were that total 16 indicators were developed to measure performance for strategic initiatives. Those included the growth rate of patient revenues, operating profit to gross revenues, reduction rate in administrative expenses from a financial perspective; average medical expenses per adjusted patient, patient satisfaction survey for inpatients and outpatients and emergency room patients, return rate for treatment results from the customer's perspective; reduction rate in average length of hospital stay, expenses for lost cases of medical disputes, rate for contracted employees, the number of published reports per faculty member from an internal perspective; educational expenses for training medical staff and full time employees, adjusted patient per medical staff, and the number of cases implemented which were proposed by employees. Any organization needs to have its own explicit objectives to grow and develop and it is absolutely necessary to measure performance to accomplish them. • Purpose: The aim of this study was to provide information on the extent and variations of elderly residents' nursing care needs, and provision of nursing care across long term care facilities. Methods: A nationwide survey was conducted on nurse managers from 1,041 long term care facilities, by e-mail or fax, from August 16 to September 30 in 2017. A self-reported questionnaire consisting of 5 domains was used to collect data. Results: Facilities with more than 30 residents were more likely to need skilled nursing services and to obtain the nursing staff such as a registered nurse and a nurse's aide. Awareness and satisfaction of hospital-based home nursing care was high in all facilities. In addition, there are some differences in nurse managers' perceptions of the level of healthcare resources and required action by facility size. Nurse managers of senior congregate housings were more likely to have considerable difficulty in dealing with healthcare needs of residents and recognizing the healthcare resource shortage. A majority of nurse managers agreed on the need to employ a registered nurse. Conclusion: This study confirmed that it is essential to increase nurse staffing level and to reform the long term care insurance for enhancing the accessibility of healthcare services, especially for the residents in small long term care facilities. There is also a need to provide diverse education and training opportunities for nursing staff working in long term care facilities.

  • Background and Purpose: An analysis of the current nuclear medicine (NM) status and future demand in Turkey in line with the international benchmarks was conducted to establish a comprehensive baseline reference. Methods: Data from all NM centers on major equipment and manpower in Turkey were collected through a survey and cross-checked with the primary research and governmental data. Data regarding manpower currently working were obtained from the relevant academic centers and occupational societies. Results: The current numbers of NM laboratories, NM specialists, gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners, radioiodine treatment units for thyroid cancer are 217, 474, 287, 75 and 39, respectively. There was personnel and equipment need underestimated in the field compared to developed countries. Equipment insufficiency was more significant in the Ministry of Health (MoH) hospitals. These gaps should be eliminated with strategic planning of equipment and NM laboratories. Currently, the number of the PET/CT devices is at the level of the developed countries. The number of specialists in the field should reach the expected goal in 2023. By 2023, Turkey will need around 820 NM specialists, 498 gamma cameras and 99 PET/CT devices. In addition, further studies should be made regarding other related staff, particularly for health physicians, radiopharmacists and NM technicians. Conclusion: There is an insufficiency of personnel and equipment in Turkey's NM field. Comprehensive strategic planning is required to allocate limited resources and the purchase of the equipment and employment policies should be structured as part of "National Special Feature Requiring Health Service Plan".

  • This study is a survey and research attempted to seek the ways of effective human resource management and improving the quality of nursing - targeting the nurses working for the general hospitals - by analyzing the impact of job satisfaction and job stress factors on exhaustion and turnover intentions, so as to find the nurses' turnover factors and remove those factors in advance. Although we cannot raise job satisfaction to the level we are satisfied by monetary compensation, i.e. salary alone, but as seen in this study, it is worth considering such ways as the subjects with high salaries showed relatively higher job satisfaction. Finally, in order to prevent the turnover of the competent nursing staff at an early stage, active systematic supplements and efforts are required; it is also necessary to provide constant job training, by taking into account of the specificity of nursing units and to secure and place adequate nursing staff, and to establish fair and objective promotion criteria.
