  • This paper presents the development and performance of a power conditioning system (PCS) for application to a 100kw Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell. (MCFC) generation system. The MCFC generation system is a part of a four year government funded research project that began in 2001. This paper presents the results of operation connected to an actual fuel cell stack at a field demonstration site. and this paper shows various tests and performance verification of the 100kW PCS using a simulated DC source.

A Heterogeneous Home Network Control System Using HNCP

  • In this paper, a heterogeneous home network control system using HNCP is proposed and implemented. A power line and 802.15.4 are used as media for the system. Information about home environment gathered by sensors is transferred to a power line connected device through the 802.15.4. HNCP stimulate the home network based on the both media. Sensor device definition for the HNCP address and message set is proposed. TinyOS supports the HNCP stack on the wireless sensor board. The home network control system implemented with these techniques has a benefit of user friendly operation of home appliances based on the sensing data. Implementation and experiment shows validity of the system.

  • The focus of this study is on the enhancement of flatness for the shielded slot plate, one of main components of the MCFC stack. The shielded slot plate is to get curvature during manufacturing process since it is produced by forming operation from only one side of it. Therefore, a correction die is proposed to place just after the main die to apply unbending on the curved plate to get almost flat product. In the design for the correction die, four kinds of design factors are selected to study which factor is the most influencing one affecting the flatness of the plate. From the experimental results using Taguchi method, it has been revealed that the Young's modulus of urethane die is the most critical factor.

  • The focus of this study is placed on the reduction of springback in the separator plate which is one of main components of the MCFC stack. Firstly, the current design (round punch and die) is accessed using FEM to find out how much it springs back after the forming operation. In this study, the two kinds of modified designs are proposed in order to reduce the amount of springback. With the linear punch in the first modified design the amount of springback rather increased. In the second modified design of die with holes, the amount of springback decreased drastically due to the effect of compression at the die corner.

  • This paper proposes a new power conditioning system for the fuel cell power generation, which consists of a LLC resonant DC-DC converter and 3-phase inverter. The LLC resonant converter boosts the fuel cell voltage of 26-48V up to 400V, using the hard-switching boost converter and the high-frequency ZVS half-bridge converter. The operation of proposed power conditioning system was verified through simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC software. The feasibility of hardware implementation was verified through experimental works with a laboratory prototype, which was built with 1.2kW PEM fuel-cell stack, 1kW LLC resonant converter, and 3kW PWM inverter. The proposed system can be utilized to commercialize a real interconnection system for the fuel-cell power generation.

  • These days, the super high-rise buildings construction plans are increased in Korea. But the stack effect in the super high-rise building interrupts the smoke control system's operation because of pressure difference, so it is more dangerous than the general building when firing. Therefore it needs to study about the pressure difference in the super high-rise buildings. We research the smoke control influence factor in the super high-rise building. Reflecting the influence factor, the simulation is practiced the case by case.

Co-combustion of RPF in the Coal Power plant (석탄화력발전소에서 폐플라스틱고형연료(RPF)의 혼소 연구)

  • The co-combustion of coal and RPF(Refuse Plastic Fuel) mixture has been experimented in a commercially operating CFB coal boiler and the emissions such as SOx, NOx, TSP and dioxine were measured at the stack. The experimented RPF was supplied by domestic RPF company that is commercially producing RPF pellet from the wasted plastics. Up to 15% of total coal was substituted to RPF and no trouble was happened during normal boiler operation. SOx and NOx concentration was reduced about $15{\sim}20$% and TSP(Total Suspended Particle) was drastically reduced about 30% during co-combustion. Dioxine concentration at mixing ratio of 7.5% was $0.0487ng{\sim}TEQ/Sm^3$ ($O_2$, 12%) that satisfied governmental emission regulation.

Crystallinity of $Pb(Nb_{0.04}Zr_{0.28}Ti_{0.68})O_{3}$ capacitors on ferroelectric properties

  • Polycrystalline and epitaxial heterostructure films of $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CoO_{3}/Pb(Nb_{0.04}Zr_{0.28}Ti_{0.68})O_{3}/La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CoO_{3}$ (LSCO/PNZT/LSCO) capacitors were evaluated in terms of low voltage and high speed operation in high density memory, using TiN/Pt conducting barrier combination. Structural studies for a high density ferroelectric memory process flow, which requires the integration of conducting barrier layers to connect the drain of the pass-gate transistor to the bottom electrode of the ferroelectric stack, indicate complete phase purity (i.e. fully perovskite) in both epitaxial and polycrystalline materials. The polycrystalline capacitors show lower remnant polarization and coercive voltages. However, the retention, and high-speed characteristics are similar, indicating minimal influence of crystalline quality on the ferroelectric properties.

  • The surge of Internet traffic makes the bottleneck nowadays. This problem can be reduced by substituting the media of network, routers and switches with more high-performance goods. However, we focused radically the server performance of processing the service requests. We prepose the method improving performance of server in the Linux kernel stack. This accelerator accepts the requests from many clients, and processes them using not user threads but kernel thread. To do so, we can reduce the overhead caused by frequent calling of system calls and the overhead of context switching between threads. Furthermore, we implement CPN(Coloured Petri Net) model. By using the CPN model criteria, we can analyze the characteristics of operation times in addition to the reachability of system. Benchmark of the system proves the model is valid.

  • Molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) power plant is expected to be one of the most promising future power generation system for the electric utilities because of its high efficiency, environmental suitability and capability of using coal as fuel. To get such attractive performance, it is necessary to consider optimizing operation and gas recycling system. This paper describes the simulation results of 7 kW MCFC stack in KEPRI and the effects of the three possible gas recycling operations, i.e. cathode gas recycling, anode gas recycling, anode gas recycling with catalytic burner.
