  • This study examines how the independence of monetary policy changes in situations where the interest rate differential between domestic and foreign rates inverts, utilizing the trilemma indices. For analysis, this paper uses the trilemma indices developed by Kim et al. (2017) to analyze the relationship between the monetary policy independence index and the other two trilemma indices, namely the capital account openness index and the exchange rate stability index, across 45 countries from 2002 to 2018. The analysis reveals that the trilemma's validity is contingent. In particular, no statistically significant negative correlation was found between the monetary policy independence index and exchange rate stability index during periods of interest rate differential inversion. A positive correlation emerges between exchange rate stability and the independence of monetary policy, particularly when the inverted interest rate differential exceeds a certain threshold. This situation, where the exchange rate remains stable despite low domestic interest rates, implies that the central bank is effectively managing monetary policy to appropriately respond to economic conditions, which is reflected in the monetary policy independence index.

  • In recent study, infiltration analysis considering rainfall intensity is more economical and practical than existing analysis method. Revised construction slope design standard is also stated to full-fill infiltration analysis considering rainfall for practical stability review. Infiltration analysis considering rainfall for practical stability review. But, to infiltration analysis, the process is complicated by ground impermeability and rainfall intensity. In this study, we perform infiltration analysis to charge infiltration conditions, soil type and rainfall characteristics, for more pratical stability review. Using the result, we can suggest construable condition on the assumption that soil is saturated up to surface zone.

  • In this paper, we propose a hopfield model for solving the part-matching which is the number of parts and positions are changed. The goal of this paper is to minimize part-connection in pairs and net total path of part-connection. Therefore, this kind of problem is referred to as a combinatorial optimization problem. First of all, we review the theoretical basis for hopfield model to optimization and present two method of part-matching; Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) and Weighted Matching Problem (WMP). Finally, we show demonstration through computer simulation and analyzes the stability and feasibility of the generated solutions for the proposed connection methods.

  • It is important to identify the fault for solving the problem about slope failure and landslides. This brief report is to review occurrence and characteristics of the fault. Also, this is to introduce the geotechnical characteristics and properties of the fault and suggests how the fault affects to the cut slope stability and propose countermeasures with respect to the fault.

  • A series of total loss of log carriers of G/T 4000 class which are engaged in EAST-SOUTH ASIAN route have been reported during the last decade. The casualties has been investigated in depth to draw the efficient means of safety. The results of this investigation, which are described in this paper, have been submitted to INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANIZATION(IMO) by KOREAN GOVERNMENT in cooperation with the KOREAN REGISTER OF SHIPPING to request the revision of stability criteria of ship carrying timber deck cargoes.

  • Since Romberg's test in 1953, the analysis of postural sway during upright stance has been widely used as a tool for evaluating balance and disorders of the postural control system. This review describes the methods that have been used to evaluste the static and dynamic performance of the postural control system. Various identification methods of postural control system based on standing balance are discussed and measures of postural sway are described. The application areas of standign balance research, with an emphasis on postural control evaluations, are also briefly described. This review can be used to gain an understanding of the dynamics of human standing balance.

  • Refractive surgeries for myopia are rapidly spreading in our daily lives. In this study Korean and foreign follow-up studies, mainly focused on long-term outcomes of LASIK and LASEK, were analyzed. Examining the evidence of the efficacy, accuracy, stability, complications and patient satisfaction will help refine our approach to refractive surgeries.

  • Recently, Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) has been attempting to modernize the review processes for generic drug products. Obviously, the modernization effort will lead to harmonize the guidelines in the process to the internationally acceptable level. In general, the Korean version of abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) consisted of similarly to those in developed countries (viz, specifications for bulk drug/preparation, bioequivalence, and stability); However, there exists a significant gap in the sophistication of the guidelines between the Korean version and those in the other countries. • In recent years, a number of long span cable-stayed pedestrian bridges have been constructed to the advantages of relatively low cost construction and the many tourists visiting. However, most of the pedestrian bridges are located in parks or sightseeing areas, so they are conducted without proper review and design process. It is necessary to review the aerodynamic stability of the long span cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, and it should be designed in detail from various points of view rather than the road bridge. In this study, we investigated the wind characteristics of the cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, and the empirical equations for the relationship between the main span length and the fundamental natural frequencies are presented for future use. In addition, the flutter wind speed limit of the flat plate deck pedestrian bridge calculated using the Selberg's equation is also presented. The final aerodynamic bridge section which satisfied the aerodynamic stability was found from open grating method. The proposed method can be used for long span cable-stayed pedestrian bridge in the future.

  • Earthquakes can induce a large number of landslides and cause very serious property damage and human casualties. There are two issues in study on earthquake-induced landslides: (1) slope stability analysis under seismic loading and (2) debris flow run-out analysis. This study aims to review technical studies related to the development and application of earthquake-induced landslide models (seismic slope stability analysis). Moreover, a pilot application of a physics-based slope stability model to Mt. Umyeon, in Seoul, with several earthquake scenarios was conducted to test regional scale seismic landslide mapping. The earthquake-induced landslide simulation model can be categorized into 1) Pseudo-static model, 2) Newmark's dynamic displacement model and 3) stress-strain model. The Pseudo-static model is preferred for producing seismic landslide hazard maps because it is impossible to verify the dynamic model-based simulation results due to lack of earthquake-induced landslide inventory in Korea. Earthquake scenario-based simulation results show that given dry conditions, unstable slopes begin to occur in parts of upper areas due to the 50-year earthquake magnitude; most of the study area becomes unstable when the earthquake frequency is 200 years. On the other hand, when the soil is in a wet state due to heavy rainfall, many areas are unstable even if no earthquake occurs, and when rainfall and 50-year earthquakes occur simultaneously, most areas appear unstable, as in simulation results based on 100-year earthquakes in dry condition.
