  • Recently, In recognition of outstanding structural performance the use of Concrete Filled steel Tube(CFT) columns has been increased. Research is ongoing that effective use of cross-sectional because steel strength development and rising prices. In this Lab, suggests new shape by Thin steel plates bent to be L-channel welded to form square steel tube to maximize efficiency of the cross section. In addition, since the rib placed at the center of the tube width acts as an anchor; higher load capacity of buckling is acceptable. we have developed New shape welded built-up square tube for broader usability which were bent to be L-shaped and thin Plate each unit member were welded. In order to apply the new shape built-up square columns, we predicted structure behavior, stress distribution with parameter Width thickness ratio. The experimental results presented in standards and even exceed the b/t of the rib anchors installed in the role due to exert enough strength and deformation to improve performance was favorable.

  • Bending deformation and energy absorption characteristics of aluminum-composite hybrid tube beams have been analyzed for improvement in the bending performance of aluminum space frame by using experimental tests combined with theoretical and finite element analyses. Hybrid tube beams composed of glass fabric/epoxy layer wrapped around on aluminum tube were made in autoclave with the recommended curing cycle. Basic properties of aluminum material used for initial input data of the finite element simulation and theoretical analysis were obtained from the true stress-true strain curve of specimen which had bean extracted from the Al tube beam. A modified theoretical model was developed to predict the resistance to the collapse of hybrid tube beams subjected to a bending load. Theoretical moment-rotation angle curves of hybrid tube beams were in good agreement with experimental ones, which was comparable to the results obtained from finite element simulation. Hybrid tube beams strengthened by composite layer on the whole web and flange showed an excellent bending strength and energy absorption capability.

  • The basic requirements to improve the joints quality of tube-to-tubesheet for heat exchangers are to obtain high residual contact pressures between the tubes and the tubesheet as well as low residual stresses in the transition zone of the tubes. The residual contact pressures and residual stresses which govern the joint quality are influenced by parameters such as material properties, geometric dimension of tube and tubesheet and expansion pressures. There are two types of tube layout patterns, triangular and square, which are frequently used for heat exchangers. The purpose of the present work is to examine the superior tube layout patterns considering the joints quality by comparing numerical results from sensitivity analyses which were performed for both of tube layout patterns.

  • Concrete Filled steel Tube(CFT) Column has an excellent structural capacities in accordance with an interaction effect between the steel tube and concrete. Recently, CFT structure has been focussed on a structural system for a high-rise buildings. The purpose of this study is to evaluate a strength and deformation capacity of CFT square columns subjected to constant axial and cyclic lateral load. The test parameters are diameters to thickness ratio of steel tube, axial load ratios, concrete strengths, load applying types and whether or not filled concrete. Total sixteen specimens are fabricated to clarify the energy absorbtion capacity of CFT columns. Experimental results are summarized for maximum strength, initial stiffness and deformation capacity.

  • In recent years, the use of steel tube confined concrete (STCC) columns has been the interests of many structural engineers. The present study is an attempt to study the monotonic and cyclic behaviours of STCC columns. For the monotonic behaviours, a series of tests on STCC stub columns (twenty one), and beam-columns (twenty) were carried out. The main parameters varied in the tests are: (1) column section types, circular and square; (2) tube diameter (or width) to thickness ratio, from 40 to 162, and (3) load eccentricity ratio (e/r), from 0 to 0.5. For the cyclic behaviours, the test parameters included the sectional types and the axial load level (n). Twelve STCC column specimens, including 6 specimens with circular sections and 6 specimens with square sections were tested under constant axial load and cyclically increasing flexural loading. Comparisons are made with predicted column strengths and flexural stiffness using the existing codes. It was found that STCC columns exhibit very high levels of energy dissipation and ductility, particularly when subjected to high axial loads. Generally, the energy dissipation ability of the columns with circular sections was much higher than those of the specimens with square sections. Comparisons are made with predicted column strengths and flexural stiffness using the existing codes such as AIJ-1997, AISCLRFD- 1994, BS5400-1979 and EC4-1994.

  • Existing research on confined concrete filled steel tubular (CCFT) columns has been mainly focused on static or cyclic loading. In this paper, square section CCFT and CFT columns were tested under both static and impact loading, using a 10,000 kN capacity compression test machine and a drop weight testing equipment. Research parameters included bonded and unbonded fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) wraps, with carbon, basalt and glass FRPs (or CFRP, BFRP, and GFRP), respectively. Time history curves for impact force and steel strain observed are discussed in detail. Experimental results show that the failure modes of specimens under impact testing were characterized by local buckling of the steel tube and cracking at the corners, for both CCFT and CFT columns, similar to those under static loading. For both static and impact loading, the FRP wraps could improve the behavior and increase the loading capacity. To analyze the dynamic behavior of the composite columns, a finite element, FE, model was established in LS-DYNA. A simplified method that is compared favorably with test results is also proposed to predict the impact load capacity of square CCFT columns.

  • The need for carbon neutrality in the world strives the construction industry to reduce the use of construction materials. Aiming to this, recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) could be used as it reduces the carbon dioxide emissions. Currently, RAC is mainly used in non-structural members of civil constructions, seldom used in structural members. To broaden its structural use, a new type of composite column, i.e., the square and rectangular RAC filled FRP tubes (CFFTs), has been concerned in this study. The investigation on their axial compressive behavior through physical test and numerical analysis demonstrated that the load-carrying capacity of such column is reduced with the increase of replacement ratio of recycled aggregate and aspect ratio of section but can be improved by the increase of FRP confining stiffness and corner radius, said capacity can be equivalent to their steel reinforced concrete counterparts. At failure, the hoop strain at corner of tube is unexpectedly smaller than that at flat side of the tube although the FRP tube ruptured at its corner first, revealing a premature failure. Besides, a design-oriented stress-strain model of concrete and an analysis-oriented finite element model are proposed to predict the load-strain response of square and rectangular CFFT columns, which facilitates the engineering use of RAC in load-carrying structural members.

  • Concrete-filled tubes (CFT), formed by an outer steel tube filled with plain or reinforced concrete inside, have been increasingly used these recent decades as columns or beam-columns, especially for tall buildings in seismic areas due to their excellent structural response. This improved behavior is derived from the effect of confinement provided by the tube, since the compressive strength of concrete increases when being subjected to hydrostatic pressure. In circular CFTs under compression, the whole tube is uniformly tensioned due to the radial expansion of concrete. Contrarily, in rectangular and square-shaped CFTs, the lateral flanges become subjected to in-plane bending derived from this volumetric expansion, and this fact implies a reduction of the confinement effect of the core. This study presents a numerical analysis of different configurations of CFT stub columns with inner stiffening plates, limited to the study of the influence of these plates on the compressive behavior without eccentricity. The final purpose is to evaluate the efficiency in terms of strength and ductility of introducing stiffeners into circular and square CFT sections under large deformation axial loading.

  • This study is concerned with the thermo-biscoplastic finite element analysis of hot tube extrusion through square dies with a mandrel. The problem is treated as a non-steady state and the ALE description is used due to abruptly turning flow at the die aperture. Since the contact heat transfer coefficient and the friction factor are required in the analysis experiments are also carried out to determine the values, In order to apply ceramics to an extrusion die the study is focussed on under-standing the characteristics of the process. The simulated results provide the useful informations such as metal flow temperature distribution stress state etc. The elastic analysis of the dies is carried out to obtain the stress state of the ceramic dies.
