In this paper, a stabilized large eddy simulation technique is developed to predict turbulent flow with high Reynolds number. Streamline Upwind Petrov-Galerkin (SUPG) stabilized method and three-step technique are both implemented for the finite element formulation of Smagorinsky sub-grid scale (SGS) model. Temporal discretization is performed using three-step technique with viscous term treated implicitly. And the pressure is computed from Poisson equation derived from the incompressible condition. Then two numerical examples of turbulent flow with high Reynolds number are discussed. One is lid driven flow at Re = $10^5$ in a triangular cavity, the other is turbulent flow past a square cylinder at Re = 22000. Results show that the present technique can effectively suppress the instabilities of turbulent flow caused by traditional FEM and well predict the unsteady flow even with coarse mesh.
Many implantable hearing aids are being developed as alternatives to conventional hearing aids which has inconveniences for use and social stigma that make hearing-impaired people avoid to wear it. Particularly, the fully-implantable middle ear hearing devices (F-IMEHD) are being actively studied for mixed or sensorineural hearing impaired people. In development of F-IMEHD, the most difficult problem is improving the performance of implantable microphone. Recently, Cho et al. have studied the tympanic membrane installed microphone which has better sensitivity and is easier to operate on patient than the microphone implanted under the skin. But, it may cause howling problem due to the feedback signal via oval window and ossicle chain from the transducer on round window in the middle ear cavity, therefore, a feedback canceller is necessary. In this paper, we designed NLMS (normalized least mean square) adaptive feedback canceller for F-IMEHD with tympanic membrane installed microphone and a transducer implemented at round window, and computer simulation was performed to verify its operation. The designed adaptive feedback canceller has a delay filter, a 64 point FIR fixed filter and a 8-tap adaptive FIR filter. Computer simulation of the feedback path is modeled by using the data obtained through human cadaver experiment.

In most industrial applications, the geometrical complexity is combined with the moving boundaries. These problems considerably increase the computational difficulties since they require, respectively, regeneration and deformation of the grid. As a result, engineering flow simulation is restricted. In order to solve this kind of problems the immersed boundary method was developed. In this study, the immersed boundary method is applied to the numerical simulation of stationary, rotating and oscillating cylinders in the 2-dimensional square cavity. No-slip velocity boundary conditions are given by imposing feedback forcing term to the momentum equation. Besides, this technique is used with a second-order accurate interpolation scheme in order to improve the accuracy of flow near the immersed boundaries. The governing equations for the mass and momentum using the immersed boundary method are discretized on the non-staggered grid by using the finite volume method. The results agree well with previous numerical and experimental results. This study presents the possibility of the immersed boundary method to apply to the complex flow experienced in the industrial applications. The usefulness of this method will be confirmed when we solve the complex geometries and moving bodies.
We introduce a pixel-structured scintillator realized on a flexible polymeric substrate and demonstrate its feasibility as an X-ray converter when it is coupled to photosensitive elements. The sample was prepared by filling $Gd_2O_2S:Tb$ scintillation material into a square-pore-shape cavity array fabricated with polyethylene. For comparison, a sample with the conventional continuous geometry was also prepared. Although the pixelated geometry showed X-ray sensitivity of about 58% compared with the conventional geometry, the resolving power was improved by about 70% above a spatial frequency of 3 $mm^{-1}$. The spatial frequency at 10% of the modulation-transfer function was about 6 $mm^{-1}$.

In this paper, we adapt a modified internal energy non-equilibrium first-order extrapolation thermal boundary condition to the thermal lattice Boltzmann model (TLBM). This model is the double populations approach to simulate hydrodynamic and thermal fields. The bounce-back boundary condition which is a traditional boundary condition of lattice Boltzmann method has only a first order in numerical accuracy at the boundary and numerical instability. A non-equilibrium first-order extrapolation boundary condition has been verified to be of better numerical stability than the bounce-back boundary condition and this boundary condition is proved to be of second-order accuracy for the flat boundaries. The two-dimensional natural convection flow in a square cavity with Pr=0.71 and various Rayleigh numbers are simulated. The results are found to be in good agreement with those of previous studies.

To assess the coolability of particle bed, which is formed in reactor cavity, it is important to assess the prediction capabilities of Dryout Heat flux correlations. The existing DHF correlations (Sowa et al., Dhir-Catton (a), Dhir-Catton (b), Hardee-Nilson, Ostesen, Shires-Stevens, Lipinski, Jones et al., Dhir-Barleon, Theofanous-Saito, Henry-Fauske) for particle beds are assessed using developed DHF database. Eleven DHF correlations are chosen for assessment based on literature survey. Among them, five are based on flooding correlation, which are used for chemical engineering and others are based on conservation equations. The parameters in DHF correlations are directly substituted into correlations. Totally 202 data are classified into 6 groups based on bed thickness and particle diameter. In each group, prediction capabilities of correlations are assessed and shown by standard deviation and root mean square (RMS) error. Prediction capability of each correlation depends on the data group and none of correlations shows best prediction capability on entire groups. According to present study, even if those correlations show poor prediction capability, Lipinski correlation is best correlation considering entire groups.
Purpose: This study compared the effect of two oral care agents on preventing stomatitis and discomfort for acute leukemic patients. Methods: A total of forty patients was enrolled and randomly assigned to sodium bicarbonate or chlorhexidine group. WHO oral toxicity scale was used for measuring stomatitis and Beck's subjective oral discomfort scale for evaluating oral comfort. Data was collected from August 2009 to February 2010. The data was analyzed using Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and Mann-Whitney test. Results: Data analyzed was thirty five one. The incidence of stomatitis was 47.4%, 68.8% in sodium bicarbonate and chlohexidine group respectively. The onset of stomatitis was about the 10th and 9th day after chemotherapy initiation, and the duration was 8.0 and 8.67 day respectively. The severity of stomatitis was highest on the 21st day after chemotherapy initiation. There were no statistical differences in the status of stomatitis and the levels of oral comfort during treatment periods. Conclusion: Nurses should routinely assess oral cavity and encourage patients to do oral care actively from second to third week after chemotherapy initiation. Also sodium bicarbonate agent can be recommended to for preventing stomatitis.
In this paper, non-reacting and reacting flowfields were computed using a preconditioned Navier-Stokes solver. The preconditioning technique of Merkle et al. and TVD scheme or Chakravarthy and Osher was employed and the results obtained using developed code have a good agreement with the previous results and experimental data. The preconditioned Wavier-Stokes equation set with low Reynolds number $\kappa-\epsilon$ equation and species continuity equations, are discretized with strongly implicit manner and time integrated with LU-SSOR scheme. For the purpose of treating unsteady problem the duel-time stepping scheme was employed. For the validation of the code in incompressible flow regime, steady driven square cavity flow was considered and calculation result shows reasonably good agreement with the result of incompressible code. Shock wave/boundary layer interaction problem was considered to show the shock capturing performance of preconditioned-TVD scheme. To validate unsteady flow, acoustic oscillation problem was calculated, and supersonic premix flame of $H_2$-air reaction problem which is calculated with turbulence model, 9-species/18-reaction step reaction model, shows reasonable agreement with the previous results. As a result, the preconditioning method has an advantage to calculate incompressible and compressible flow through one code and preconditioned solver easily developed from standard compressible code with minor efforts. But additional computational time and computer memory is required due to preconditioning matrix.

With the continuous development in insulation of electrical equipment design, the reliability of the system has been enhanced. However, in the manufacturing process and during operation under continues stresses introduce local defects, such as voids between interfaces that can responsible to occurrence of partial discharge (PD), electric field distortion and accumulation of charges. These defects may lead to localize corrosion and material degradation of insulation system, and a serious threat to the equipment. A model of three layers of PI film with air gap is presented to understand the influence of interface and voids on exploitation conditions such as strong electrical field, PD activity and charge movement. The analytical analysis, and experimental results are good agreement and show that the lose contact between interfaces accumulate more residual charges and in consequences increase the electric field intensity and accelerates internal discharges. These residual charges are trapped charges, injected by the electrodes has often same polarity, so the electric field in cavities increases significantly and thus partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV) decreases. Contrary, number of PD discharge quantity increases due to interface. Interfacial polarization effect has opposite impact on electric field and PDIV as compare to void.
The purpose of this study is to review the prognosis of the TG Osseotite implant(3i Co, USA) placed in partial edentulous area of oral cavity and to suspect the possible causes leading to failure. 124 TG Osseotite implants that had been inserted between 2000 - 2002 were followed up for 2 years(avg : 9.5 months) in function. Medical records, and radiographs were evaluated and analyzed by the over all success rate, gender and age factor, general disease, implant fixture length and diameter, implant site, bone density, and various surgical methods. Chi square test was used statistically. Of the 124 TG Osseotite implants, 9 implants(7.3%) were removed in early phase and 3 implants(2.4%) were in late phase. The cumulative survival rate was 90.2%. The failure of the TG Osseotite implant was closely related with the use of bone graft techniques such as sinus elevation or immediate implantation and not with the age, sex, general disease, implant site, bone density of implanted site. The failure of the TG Osseotite implant was well developed when it was the wide type of implant and it was inserted for single tooth replacement. The developement of peri-implantitis was the most important factor in the failure of the TG Osseotite implant.
