  • In this paper, we proposed analysis performance improvement technique for T-DMB watermarking based on MBOK spread spectrum. By applying the proposed scheme to T-DMB system, it allows additional data transmission and improves spectral efficiency of data transmission through watermarking spreading code. Using MBOK spread spectrum technique, data rate improved 2m-times existing direct sequence spread spectrum. However, since hardware complexity increase as the value of m becomes large, the method should be used with optimal situation. We analyze T-DMB watermarking techniques performance with MBOK spread spectrum and averaging. As a result, we confirm DER performance of MBOK spread spectrum scheme and it is shown system performance is improved as the number of averaging increases. The results of the paper can be applied to wireless multimedia digital broadcasting system.

  • Self-encoded spread spectrum (SESS) is a novel modulation technique that acquires its spreading code from a random information source, rather than using the traditional pseudo-random noise (PN) codes. In this paper, we present our study of the SESS system performance under pulsed-noise jamming and show that iterative detection can significantly improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. The jamming performance of the SESS with correlation detection is verified to be similar to that of the conventional direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) system. On the other hand, the time diversity detection of the SESS can completely mitigate the effect of jamming by exploiting the inherent temporal diversity of the SESS system. Furthermore, iterative detection with multiple iterations can not only eliminate the jamming completely but also achieve a gain of approximately 1 dB at $10^{-3}$ BER as compared with the binary phase shift keying (BPSK) system under additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) by effectively combining the correlation and time diversity detections.

  • In this paper, a PN code tracking loop with extended Kalman filter (EKF) is proposed for a direct-sequence spread-spectrum. EKF is used to estimate amplitude and delay in a multipath. fading channel. It is shown that tracking error performance is significantly improved by EKF compared with a conventional tracking loop.

  • When we measure electrical impedance of a small object, such as an electronic component, external interference or jamming signal can be rejected by shielding the object. However, when we measure impedance of a large object, such as a human body, shielding is not easy and severe error due to the external interference could be introduced. In this paper, spread spectrum technique applicable to bioimpedance measurements for rejecting external interference without shielding is introduced. The improvement in signal-to-jamming ratio by the spread spectrum technique was experimentally confirmed.

  • Localized communication networks for office automation, security monitoring, environmental management of buildings, computer communications, and other applications enjoy every increasing demand. This paper proposes a direct sequence spread spectrum communication system for use in power line data transmission. Advantages of power distribution circuits include reasonably universal coverage and easy access vis a standard wall plug. Disadvantages include limited communication bandwidth, relatively high noise levels, and varying levels of impedance, noise, and attenuation. Spread spectrum signalling provides immunity to narrow-band signal impairments and multiplexing capability. Our prototype power line communication module supports completely physical and data link layers based on the international standard ISO 10368 for reliable high-speed power line communication system. Moreover it provides useful functions to compose a plant monitoring and control system. All the circuits of the communication module are included in one compact circuit. Thus a functional communication system for the power line plant monitoring and control is implemented.

  • A spread spectrum clock generation is an efficient way to reduce electro-magnetic interference (EMI) radiation in modern mixed signal chip systems. The proposed circuit generates the spread spectrum clock by directly injecting the modulation voltage into the voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) current source for SATA II. The resulting 33KHz modulation profile has a Hersey-Kiss shape with a rounded peak. The chip has been fabricated using $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process and test results show that the proposed circuit achieves 0.509% (5090ppm) down spreading at 1.5GHz and peak power reduction of 10dB. The active chip area is 0.36mm ${\times}$ 0.49mm and the chip consumes 30mW power at 1.5GHz.

  • CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) specified in IEEE 802.15.4a can be used for ranging applications. In this paper, we apply the CSS to estimate the coordinates of a mobile robot. Four anchor nodes are installed at known positions and a tag node is attached to the target mobile robot. By CSS ranging, we measure the distances between each anchor and the tag node. Based on the measured distances, the coordinates of the mobile robot can be calculated by the method of trilateration. However the calculated coordinates are not accurate because of the errors of the measured distances. Therefore we propose an algorithm for reducing the effect of the errors. The proposed algorithm is executed with the extended Kalman filter. Through localization experiments, we show the performance of the proposed algorithm and the accuracy of the estimated position.

  • Position estimation in indoor is significant problem, because GPS which is usually used for outdoor positioning cannot be utilized to indoor positioning. Sensor network can be a solution for the positioning. Recently, chirp spread spectrum(CSS) specified in IEEE 802.15.4a provides an ability of ranging. Based on the results of the ranging, a position of a CSS node can be calculated by using trilateration. In this case, Kalman filter can be applied to the trilateration because of the measurement noise. In this paper, we apply the unscented Kalman filter for the trilateration. The trilateration can be represented to a nonlinear state space equation, and the unscented Kalman filter is suitable for nonlinear state space equation. Through the experimental results. we show the accuracy of the estimated position.

  • The spread mooring system for FPSO is developed to explore deep sea area, in which swell is dominant. It is known that the tension response of mooring lines in this sea area shows bimodal spectrum. Assuming normal distribution of tension profile and Rayleigh distribution of tension amplitude, the power spectral density function (PSD) of the mooring tension under the bimodal stationary random process is applied for the calculation of spectrum fatigue. Three popular methods, which are simple summation method, combined spectrum method and Jioa-Moan method, are used to combine fatigue damages from bimodal spectrum characteristics. Each damage value is compared with damage using Rainflow Cycle Counting (RCC) method which is believed to be close to exact solution. Vanmarcke' parameter and RMS(Root Mean Square) ratio are employed to assess relative damage variations between from RCC method and from three combination methods. Finally the most reliable fatigue damage combining method for spread mooring system is suggested.
