The concrete corbels consist of various failure mechanisms such as the yielding of the tension reinforcement, the crushing or splitting from compression concrete struts, and localized bearing or shearing failure under the loading plate. However, predicting those failure mechanisms is very difficult. In this study, the ACI 318-02, the softened strut-tie model approach, and the nonlinear strut-tie model approach are applied to ultimate strength analysis of normal strength concrete corbels tested to failure. From the result of the analysis, an effective analysis and design method of normal strength concrete corbels is suggested.

The aims of this study were to determine mechanical properties of steel-fiber reinforced concrete under splitting tensile, flexural and compressive loading, and thus to improve the possible applications of concrete. The major factors experimentally investigated in this study were the fiber content and the length and the diameter of fibers. The major results obtained are summarized as follows : 1.The strength, strain, elastic modulus and energy obsorption capability of steel-fiber reinforced concrete under splitting tensile loading were significantly improved by increasing the fiber content or the aspect ratio. 2.The flexural strength, central deflection, and flexural toughness of steel4iber reinforced beams were significantly improved by increasing the fiber content or the aspect ratio. And flexural behavior characteristic was good at the aspect ratio of about 60 to 75. 3.The strength, strain, and energy absorption capability in compression were increased with the increase of the fiber content. These effects were not so sensitive to the aspect ratio. The energy absorption capability was improved only slightly with the increase of the fiber length. 4.The elastic modulus, transverse strains, and poisson's ratios in compression were not influenced by the fiber content. 5.The steel-fibers were considered to be appropriated as the materials covering the weakness of concrete because the mechanical properties of concrete in tension and flexure were significantly improved by steel-fiber reinforcement.

Thermal comfort and energy conservation are critical issues in the building sector. Energy consumption in the building sector should be reduced whilst enhancing the thermal comfort of occupants. Concrete is the most widely used construction material in buildings. Its thermal conductivity (k-value) has a direct effect on thermal comfort perception. This study aims to find the optimum value of replacing the normal aggregate with lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) under high strengths and low thermal conductivity, density and water absorption. The k-value of the LECA concrete and its physical and mechanical properties have varying correlations. Results indicate that the oven-dry density, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and k-value of concrete decrease when normal coarse aggregates are replaced with LECA. However, water absorption (initial and final) increases. Thermal conductivity and the physical and mechanical properties have a strong correlation. The statistical optimisation of the experimental data shows that the 39% replacement of normal coarse aggregate by LECA is the optimum value for maximising the compressive and splitting tensile strengths whilst maintaining the k-value, density and water absorption at a minimum.

This study attempted to derive an appropriate application range by reviewing the integration performance of joints according to the application range of SRA concrete. As a result, it was confirmed that the integration performance was improved even if SRA concrete was placed only by 75mm, which is 0.5 times the thickness of the member.

Despite being one of the most abundantly used construction materials because of its exceptional properties, concrete is susceptible to deterioration and damage due to various factors particularly corrosion, improper loading, poor workmanship and design discrepancies, and as a result concrete structures require retrofitting and strengthening. In recent times, Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites have substituted the conventional techniques of retrofitting and strengthening of damaged concrete. Most of the research studies related to concrete strengthening using FRP have been performed on undamaged test specimens. This contribution presents the results of an experimental study in which concrete specimens were damaged by mechanical loading and elevated temperature in laboratory prior to application of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets for strengthening. The test specimens prepared using concrete of target compressive strength of 28 MPa at 28 days were subjected to compressive and splitting tensile testing up to failure and the intact pieces of the failed specimens were collected for the purpose of repair. In order to induce damage as a result of elevated temperature, the concrete cylinders were subjected to $400^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ temperature for two hours duration. Concrete cylinders damaged under compressive and split tensile loads were re-cast using concrete and rich cement-sand mortar, respectively and then strengthened using CFRP wrap. Concrete cylinders damaged due to elevated temperature were also strengthened using CFRP wrap. Re-cast and strengthened concrete cylinders were tested in compression and splitting tension. The obtained results revealed that re-casting of specimens damaged by mechanical loadings using concrete & mortar, and then strengthened by single layer CFRP wrap exhibited strength even higher than their original values. In case of specimens damaged by elevated temperature, the results indicated that concrete strength is significantly dropped and strengthening using CFRP wrap made it possible to not only recover the lost strength but also resulted in concrete strength greater than the original value.
The main object of this paper is to investigate the effects of high temperatures on the physical and mechanical properties of natural sand concrete(NSC) and crushed sand concrete(CSC). Test samples were exposed to high temperature ranging from $200^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$. After exposure, various tests were conducted. Color image analysis and weight losses were determined and compressive strength test and splitting tensile strength test were conducted. The results indicated that weight losses increased as exposure temperature increased with comparable decreasing rate. The results also showed that compressive strength and splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity decreased as exposure temperature increased. The results also showed that residual compressive strength of NSC decreased more drastically than that of CSC at $200^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$. Residual splitting tensile strength of NSC decreased more than that of CSC at $200^{\circ}C$, while NSC and CSC showed comparable residual strength ratio at $800^{\circ}C$.

In this study, the effects of different mix proportions and fire scenarios (exposure temperatures and post-fire-curing periods) on fire-damaged concrete were analyzed using a nonlinear resonance vibration method based on nonlinear acoustics. The hysteretic nonlinearity parameter was obtained, which can sensitively reflect the damage level of fire-damaged concrete. In addition, a splitting tensile strength test was performed on each fire-damaged specimen to evaluate the residual property. Using the results, a prediction model for estimating the residual strength of fire-damaged concrete was proposed on the basis of the correlation between the hysteretic nonlinearity parameter and the ratio of splitting tensile strength.

In this study, we investigate the difference of concrete between natural aggregate and electric are furnace(EAF) slag one in oder to use EAF slag aggregate as coarse aggregate in concrete. We find the physical and chemical properties of EAF slag aggregate for the aging process. We consider the properties od the concrete made with EAF slag aggregate which are compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity.

The strength development of polymer concrete using an unsaturated polyester polymer varies depending on many factors. However, the strength development is mostly dependent upon the age and curing temperature if the mixture ratios are the same. This study conducted to experimentally describe the relationship between the strength development and maturity which is defined as a function of $\Sigma$(time $\times$ temperature). The research result may be applied to predict the compressive, tensile and splitting strengths of the polymer concrete by computing the maturinty of the concrete.

The purpose of this experimental research is to not only devlop the high-strength concrete using sea and river sand, but also investigatc mechanical properites of the high-strength concrete, such as the elastic modulus, the compressive strength of concrete cyllinder, and etc. Also, rational analytical formula for elastic modulus has been proposed together with those for the splitting tensile strength and the flexural strength to be predicted from compressive strength of conccrete cyllinder.
