Purpose : The purpose of this study was to analyse the facial changes and factors contributing to then after bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy of mandibular prognathism. Materials and Methods : Forty patients with Class III dental and skeletal malocclusion who were treated with bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy were reviewed. Frontal and lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken preoperatively, immediate postoperatively and more than six months postoperatively in each patient. After tracing the cephalometric radiographs, various parameters were measured. Results : 1. Gonial angle at postoperative two days was decreased about $10.4^{\circ}$ than preoperatively and gonial angle at postoperative six months was increased about $6.8^{\circ}$ than postoperative two days. So, gonial angle at postoperative six months was decreased about $3.6^{\circ}$ than preoperative gonial angle. 2. Facial height postoperative two days was decreased about 0.8mm than preoperatively and facial height at postoperative six months was decreased about 0.7mm than postoperative two days. So, facial height at postoperative six months was decreased about 1.5mm than preoperative facial height. 3. Mandibular width postoperative two days was decreased about 1.0mm than preoperatively and mandibular width at postoperative six months was increased about 1.8mm than postoperative two days. So, mandibular width at postoperative six months was decreased about 2.8mm than preoperative mandibular width. 4. Amount of set back and mandibular plane angle were not influencing on relapse degree. Conclusion : It is thought that bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy in mandibular prognathic patients is effective to improve long face and steep gonial angle. More prudent operation and careful postoperative management is required to maintain stable face postoperatively. Further research for soft tissue changes and factors which are related with relapse is needed.

Background: Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxic substance with a wide range of uses, from the treatment of musculoskeletal spasms to anti-aging regimens by improving wrinkles. Split-face studies in which drugs are injected in the right and left sides of the faces have been actively conducted in botulinum toxin studies. In this study, we aimed to investigate the reliability of a split-face study for determining the effectiveness of botulinum toxin based on eyebrow height and movement, and electromyography results. Methods: Thirty-one women aged 35 to 55 years were included in the study. Eyebrow height was measured as the distance from the eyebrows to the upper eyelid margin on the primary gaze, and eyebrow movement was measured as the distance when the forehead was wrinkled for 5 seconds. A noninvasive method was used for electromyography of the frontalis muscles. Results: No statistically significant differences in right and left eyebrow heights and movements, and electromyography findings (p= 0.256, p= 1.000, and p= 0.978, respectively) were found. Pearson correlation analysis showed that electromyography muscle activity is positively associated with eyebrow movement, respectively (p< 0.001). Conclusion: We advocate the reliability of split-face study and the usefulness of electromyography of frontalis muscle in forehead rejuvenation research.

Objectives: Although Acne vulgaris is a chronic skin disease, which its standard treatment causes therapeutic limitations and some common adverse effects, medicinal plants can be effective in treatment with low adverse effects as combination therapy. Myrtle (Myrtus Communis) has some beneficial properties, which has been administered topically and orally for some skin diseases in Persian medicine. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of Myrtle formula and 1% clindamycin topical solution. Methods: This was a split-face clinical trial that was done on 55 patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris for 16 weeks. The patients received topical Myrtle solution to the right side of the face (group 1) and clindamycin solution to the left side (group 2) twice daily for 12 weeks. All participants were examined for the acne severity index (ASI) and total acne lesions counting (TLC) at certain times during the study. Then, they stopped using them for four weeks. They also did not take the drug in the final four weeks of the study. Results: Forty-eight patients completed the study for 16 weeks; 40 (83.2%) patients were female and the rest of them were male. The mean age and standard deviation were 25.62 ± 7.62 years. After 12 weeks, the percentage changes of comedones, inflammatory lesions, ASI and TLC were significantly reduced in both groups (p < 0.001). The percentage change of inflammatory lesions and ASI decrease was significantly higher in the group 1 (p = 0.03). There was no significant difference in the incidence of side effects between the two groups. There was a more significant decrease in sebum percentage change in the group 1 (p = 0.003). Conclusion: Myrtle lotion was effective and safe for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris.

In this paper, we propose a method for detecting characters in images and detecting facial regions, which consists of two tasks. First, we separate two different characters to detect the face position of the characters in the frame. For fast detection, we use You Only Look Once (YOLO), which finds faces in the image in real time, to extract the location of the face and mark them as object detection boxes. Second, we present three image processing methods to detect accurate face area based on object detection boxes. Each method uses HSV values extracted from the region estimated by the detection figure to detect the face region of the characters, and changes the size and shape of the detection figure to compare the accuracy of each method. Each face detection method is compared and analyzed with comparative data and image processing data for reliability verification. As a result, we achieved the highest accuracy of 87% when using the split rectangular method among circular, rectangular, and split rectangular methods.

A split-die design for the cold forging of symmetric parts such as those having a hexagonal cross-section is presented in this paper. Parts with a hexagonal cross-section, such as bolt heads and nuts, should be forged with a die that has a hexagonal-shaped hole. A split type die is required to mitigate the buildup of stress concentrations located at the corners of the hexagonal hole. Generally, the insert of a hexagonal die is made by cutting each corner of a cylinder using a hexagonal hole and then combined with the die and shrink-fitted. However, split dies face problems when extruding material at the corners of the hexagonal split die. To address this problem, two types of split dies were evaluated: rounded hexagonal dies and angular hexagonal dies. The effects of the pre-stress ring on the dies were compared and analyzed and results show that using the angular split hexagonal die can extend the lifetime of forging dies.

Purpose: Full-thickness skin grafts are usually used in facial reconstruction, but on occasion, split-thickness skin graft is also used from the scalp due to the limitation of donor site. However, there were complications, such as alopecia, folliculitis and blood loss. In addition, it can not be used in patients with baldness. Under the circumstances, we used medial arm skin as split-thickness skin graft donor site in lieu of scalp. We investigated the efficacy of the medial arm skin as a donor site of facial skin graft in comparison with scalp. Methods: From 2000 to 2005, the split-thicknesss skin grafts were performed using the medial arm skin in 10 patients and the scalp in 10 patients. We inspected the skin color match, texture match by the visual analogue scale. Scar contracture was estimated by the Visitrak $grade^{(R)}$(Smith & Nephew). The statistical analysis was performed by SPSS 12.0. Results: There was a more satisfaction in color match, texture, and scar contracture in medial arm skin than in scalp. Conclusion: According to these results, medial arm skin may be used efficiently as an alternative donor site of scalp in the facial reconstruction.
We wish to show our experiance with threating a rare congenital brain malformation-encephalocele. It is a protusion of brain matter with greater incidence in the Far East. Our case is even more curious because of the site of occurrence-frontobasal. Most of encephalocele occur in the occipital region. In this article we report a case of a 57-year-old woman, without deformations on the face, which had epileptic seizures and in spite of receiving antiepileptic drug. She was also frequently treated for sinusitis. She never had rhinoliquorrhea, nor was she diagnosed to have meningitis. In the last few years she had difficulty breathing on her right nostril. After she was diagnosed with encephalocele and treated surgically her recovery was complete and she is without the seizures.
In this study, Rock deformation at the artificially advanced face was investigated by using the finite element code relating to the split blasting conducted in urban area. The maximum principal strain according to the detonation pattern and the detonation delay time at the rock surface was compared with the modeled blast section. As a result, it was found that the maximum principal strain was observed a difference depending on the detonation pattern at the rock surface, and the detonation delay time was an important parameter in split blasting.
Skin replacement in large cheek defects after excision of benign or malignant tumor on the face is a challenging task. The physical characteristics of cheek skin are matched best by adjacent skin. Various methods of reconstructing of the facial surface such as forehead flap, distant flap, or a full thickness or split thickness skin graft have replaced adjacent tissue for coverage in many cases. We have reviewed ten cases of aesthetic reconstruction of the face after resection of the facial skin tumor within the last 5 years. The first group of 3 patients were reconstructed with split thickness skin graft from the scalp or lower abdomen. The second group of patients were reconstructed with cheek flap. The third group of 3 patients were reconstructed with cervicofacial flap. The last 2 patients were reconstructed with nasolabial flap & island falp respectively. The advantages from our experience with various method of coverage are its hidden donor area & good color match with the facial skin & increased success rate.

A prognathic mandible and prominent gonial angle are considered to be unattractive in the Orient because it gives the face a square and muscular appearance. Requests for contouring of the mandibular angle are rare in the other race but are much more common in Korea and, through out the Orient. So, we often encounter a patient with a prognathic mandible and squarish or broad face who wishes to have his or her facial size reduced minimally or to acquire a round or slender appearance. But, mandibular angle is located in the deepest part of the operative field and the strong tension of the lateral soft tissue makes retraction difficult. It is extremely difficult to reduce the gonial angle with sagittal split ramus osteotomy by intraoral approach at the same time. We apply the method of gonial angle reduction during SSRO and had satisfactory results. We will present our results and hope to give some useful information for management of mandibular deformity.
