Here, we introduce porous graphene balls (PGB) showing superior electrochemical properties as supercapacitor electrode materials. PGB was fabricated via activation of graphene oxides (GO) by H2O2 and aerosol spray drying in series. Effect of activation on the morphology, specific surface area, pore volume, and electrochemical properties were investigated. As-prepared PGB showed spherical morphology containing pores, which lead to the effective prevention of restacking in graphene sheets. It also exhibited a large surface area, unique porous structures, and high electrical conductivity. The electrochemical properties of the PGB as electrode materials of supercapacitor are investigated by using aqueous KOH under symmetric two-electrode system. The highest specific capacitance of PGB was 279 F/g at 0.1 A/g. In addition, the high rate capability (93.8% retention) and long-term cycling stability (92.2%) of the PGB were found due to the facilitated ion mobility between the porous graphene layers.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Be addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of as-cast and homogenization treated Al-Li-(Be)alloys. The ductility of as-cast Al-Li alloy was increased by the addition of Be and the fracture morphology was changed from brittle to ductile mode. Also, hardness and strength have been decreased by homogenization treatment. The morphology of eutectic structure which consists of ${\alpha}(Al)$ and ${\alpha}(Be)$ was changed from lammellae to spherical type by homogenization treatment. The shape of ${\alpha}(Be)$ phase has been revealed as hollow type by TEM observation. It consists of outer surfaces with well defined crystal facets and the core filled with ${\alpha}(Al)$. The microstructure of as-cast Al-Li-Be alloys showed coarse ${\delta}'$, fine ${\delta}'$, and coarse ${\delta}$ phases. The coarse and fine ${\delta}'$ phases were formed at Be-rich phase /matrix interfaces and in matrix, respectively. By homogenization treatment, the ${\delta}$ phase in Al-Li and Al-Li-Be alloys dissolved and the size of ${\delta}$ phase in Al-Li-Be alloys was finer than that of Al-Li alloy.

The nanoindenter and AFM have been used for nanofabrication, such as nanolithography, nanowriting, and nanopatterning, as well as measurement of mechanical properties and surface topology. Nanoscale indents can be used as cells for molecular electronics and drug delivery, slots for integration into nanodevices, and defects for tailoring the structure and properties. Therefore, it is very important to make indents of desired morphology (shape, size and depth). Indents of different shapes can be obtained by using indenters of different geometries such as a cube comer and conical and spherical tips. The depth and size of indents can be controlled by making indentations at different indentation loads. However, in case of viscoplastic viscoelastic materials such as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) the time dependent deformation (TDD) should also be considered. In this study, the effect of process parameters such as loading rate and hold-time at peak load on the indent morphology (maximum penetration depth, elastic recovery, transient creep recovery, residual depth pile-up height) of PMMA were studied for hyperfine pattern fabrication.
We have studied the structural characterization, surface morphology and electrical properties for boron dopped polyacene anode material from phenolic resin for lithium secondary battery. The boron dopped anode material were characterized as boron contents of 5, 10, 15 and 20%, respectively. From the X-ray results, the all kinds of compounds were observed for the diffraction patterns for typical amorphous carbons. The SEM morphology showed formation of semi spherical granule for the boron dopped compounds. As the result of the electrical charge/discharge and impedance data, the 10 and 15% boron dopped materials showed good properties on the ions and electron transfer effect of battery.
Various bupivacaine-loaded microspheres were prepared using poly(d,1-lactide) (PLA) and poly(d,1-lactic-co-glycolide) (PLGA) by a solvent evaporation method for the sustained release of drug. The effects of process conditions such as drug loading, polymer type and solvent type on the characteristics of microspheres were investigated. The prepared microspheres were characterized for their drug loading, size distribution, surface morphology and release kinetics. Drug loading efficiency and yield of PLGA micro- spheres were higher than those of PLA microspheres. The prepared microspheres had an average particle size below 5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The particle size range of microspheres was 1.65~2.24${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. As a result of SEM, the particle size of PLA microspheres was smaller than that of PLGA microspheres. In morphology studies, microspheres showed a spherical shape and smooth surface in all process conditions. In thermal analysis, bupivacaine-loaded microspheres showed no peaks originating from bupivacaine. This suggested that bupivacaine base was molecular-dispersed in the polymer matrix of microspheres. The release pattern of the drug from microspheres was evaluated for 96 hours. The initial burst release of bupivacaine base decreased with increasing the molecular weight of PLGA, and the drug from microspheres released slowly. In conclusion, bupivacaine-loaded microspheres were successfully prepared from poly(d,1-lactide) and poly (d,1- lactic-co-glycolide) polymers with different molecular weights allowing control of the release rate.

The green-emitting CeMgAl11O19:Tb (CMAT) phosphor has been prepared at 1200 °C by the simple solid-state reaction using AlF3 as a self-flux. This preparation temperature is much lower than those (1500-1700 °C) for conventional solid-state reaction and spray pyrolysis method. In particular, the complete process to produce high-quality phosphor particles was carried out through the single-step heat treatment of the mixture of corresponding oxide-type metal sources. An addition of AlF3 as a self-flux significantly decreased the crystallization temperature of CMAT with plate-like shape. The particle morphology could be controlled from plate-like to spherical by using H3BO3 as an additional flux. Thus, an optimal morphology and luminescence characteristics of CMAT were achieved when both AlF3 and H3BO3 fluxes were simultaneously used. Compared with conventional solid-state process, which is accompanied by the calcination step(s), and other alternative liquid solution techniques such as sol-gel method and spray pyrolysis, no use of active precursors and liquid media that are harmful to the environment is a distinctive advantage for the industrial purpose.
YAG:Ce yellow phosphor particles were synthesized by spray pyrolysis with changing the solution properties and their luminous properties, crystal structure, and morphological changes were studied by using PL measurement, XRD, and SEM analysis. It was clear that the solution properties significantly affected the crystal phase, crystallite size, the PL intensity, and the morphology of YAG:Ce particles. At low calcination temperature, the addition of urea only to the spray solution was helpful to form a pure YAG phase without any impurity phases, as the result, the highest luminescence intensity was achieved at the calcination temperature of $900^{\circ}C$. When the calcination temperatures were larger than $1300^{\circ}C$, however, the YAG particles prepared without any additive showed the highest luminescent intensity. Regardless of the solution conditions, the emission intensity of YAG:Ce particles prepared by spray pyrolysis showed a linear relation with the crystallite size. In terms of the morphology of YAG:Ce particles, the addition of both DCCA and $NH_4OH$ to the spray solution was effective to prepare a spherical and dense structured YAG particles.
We present a rapid biogenic method for the production of nanoscale gold particles using pear extract. The formation and stability of pear-derived gold nanoparticles (Pear-AuNPs) were monitored by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. Their morphology, elemental composition and crystalline phase were determined by transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and selected area electron diffraction. The average core size of crystalline Pear-AuNPs was in the range of $10{\pm}5\;nm$ and the observed morphology was spherical. The X-ray photoelectron spectrum showed a strong peak for the pure 'Au' phase. The circular dichroism spectrum indicated the natural capping ability of the pear extract, which generated peptide-gold nanoparticles. These nanoparticles were stable in aqueous solution for two months. A cell viability assay of Pear-AuNPs showed biocompatibility with human embryonic kidney 293 cells. Accordingly, this eco-friendly process for the bio-mimetic production of Pear-AuNPs is nontoxic in nature; consequently, it will find potential application in nano-biotechnology.
Tetrapod-shaped ZnO crystals were synthesized through a simple oxidation of metallic Zn powder in air without the presence of any catalysts or substrates. X-ray diffraction data revealed that the ZnO crystals had wurtzite structure. It is supposed that the growth of the tetrapod proceeded in a vapor-solid growth mechanism. As the amount of the source powder increased, the size of the tetrapod decreased. The tip morphology of the tetrapod changed from a needle-like shape to a spherical shape with the oxidation time. ZnO crystals with rod shape were fabricated via the oxidation of Zn and Sn mixture. Sn played an important role in the formation of ZnO crystals with different morphology by affecting the growth mode of ZnO crystals. The cathodoluminescent properties were measured for the samples. The strongest green emission was observed for the rod-shaped ZnO crystals, suggesting that the crystals had the high density of oxygen vacancies.
We examined the morphology of the fertilized egg and the fine structure of fertilized egg envelopes of Poropanchax normani belonging to the family Poeciliidae, also known as Norman's lampeye using light and electron microscopes. The fertilized eggs with narrow perivitelline space were found to be spherical and demersal, additionally containing small oil droplets in the vitelline membrane. Further, a bundle of adhesive filaments was observed to be present on one side of the fertilized egg. These filaments possessed remarkably high elasticity and were approximately 1-3mm in length. The size of the fertilized egg was determined to be about 1.49 ± 0.07mm (n=30). The outer surface appeared smooth, and adhesive filaments originating at different location of the surface of the envelope were found to be distributed around the egg envelope and were joined together to form a single long bundle in scanning electron microscopic observation. A peak-like structure formed of several straight wrinkles was observed around the micropyle. However, the complete structure of the micropyle could not be studied due to the depth at which it was located. Additionally, the total thickness of the egg envelope was ascertained to be approximately12.5-14.5㎛. The egg envelope consisted of two distinct layers, an outer electron dense layer and an inner lamellar layer, further consisting of 10 sublayers of varying thicknesses. Collectively, it was observed that the morphological characteristics of the fertilized egg, fine structures surrounding the micropyle, outer surface, adhesive structure consisting adhesive filaments, and sections of fertilized egg envelope displayed species specificity.
