2단 패들 임펠러를 갖춘 구형교반조에서의 유동상태 (Flow Patterns in a Spherical Vessel with Double-Stage Paddle Impeller)

  • A numerical algorithm for three-dimension laminar flow in an agitated vessel was established by using the spherical coordinates. Flow pattern for the double-stage paddle impeller was not dependent upon the distance of among the impeller in the agitated vessels. The numerical simulation of the flow pattern in spherical and cylindrical agitated vessel agree well with the visualization results.

S-Octree: An Extension to Spherical Coordinates

  • We extend the octree subdivision process from Cartesian coordinates to spherical coordinates to develop more efficient space-partitioning structure for surface models. As an application of the proposed structure, we apply the octree subdivision in spherical coordinates ("S-Octree") to geometry compression in progressive mesh coding. Most previous researches on geometry-driven progressive mesh compression are devoted to improve predictability of geometry information. Unlike this, we focus on the efficient information storage for the space-partitioning structure. By eliminating void space at initial stage and aligning the R axis for the important components in geometry information, the S-Octree improves the efficiency in geometry information coding. Several meshes are tested in the progressive mesh coding based on the S-Octree and the results for performance parameters are presented.

Normal range of facial asymmetry in spherical coordinates: a CBCT study

  • Purpose: This study aimed to measure the bilateral differences of facial lines in spherical coordinates from faces within a normal range of asymmetry utilizing cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: CBCT scans from 22 females with normal symmetric-looking faces (mean age 24 years and 8 months) were selected for the study. The average menton deviation was $1.01{\pm}0.66$ mm. The spherical coordinates, length, and midsagittal and coronal inclination angles of the ramal and mandibular lines were calculated from CBCT. The bilateral differences in the facial lines were determined. Results: All of the study subjects had minimal bilateral differences of facial lines. The normal range of facial asymmetry of the ramal and mandibular lines was obtained in spherical coordinates. Conclusion: The normal range of facial asymmetry in the spherical coordinate system in this study should be useful as a reference for diagnosing facial asymmetry.

Use of spherical coordinates to evaluate three-dimensional facial changes after orthognathic surgery

  • Purpose: This study aimed to assess the three-dimensional (3D) facial changes after orthognathic surgery by evaluating the spherical coordinates of facial lines using 3D computed tomography (CT). Materials and Methods: A 19-year-old girl was diagnosed with class III malocclusion and facial asymmetry. Orthognathic surgery was performed after orthodontic treatment. Facial CT scans were taken before and after orthognathic surgery. The patient had a menton deviation of 12.72 mm before surgery and 0.83 mm after surgery. The spherical coordinates of four bilateral facial lines (ramal height, ramal lateral, ramal posterior and mandibular body) were estimated from CT scans before and after surgery on the deviated and opposite side. Results: The spherical coordinates of all facial lines changed after orthognathic surgery. Moreover, the bilateral differences of all facial lines changed after surgery, and no bilateral differences were zero. Conclusion: The spherical coordinate system was useful to compare differences between the presurgical and postsurgical changes to facial lines.

A Test for Spherical Symmetry

  • In this study, we propose a chi-squared test of spherical symmetry. The advantage of this test is that the test statistic and its asymptotic p-value are easy to compute. A simulation study is conducted to study the accuracy, in finite samples, of the limiting distribution of the test statistic under spherical symmetry. The power of our test is compared with those of other tests for spherical symmetry in various alternative distributions via simulation.

A Simple Chi-Squared Test of Spherical Symmetry

  • A chi-squared test of spherical symmetry is suggested. This test is easy to apply in practice since it is easy to compute and has a limiting chi-squared distribution under spherical symmetry. The result of Park(1998) can be used to show that it has the limiting chi-squared distribution. A simulation study is conducted to study the accuracy, in finite samples, of the limiting distribution. Finally, a simulation study that compares the power of our test with those of other tests of spherical symmetry is performed.

  • In this paper, the absolute nodal coordinate formulation was introduced to describe the large deformation problems. And also, the modal coordinates were employed to represent the small elastic deformation. A new hybrid formulation was developed to combine the modal coordinates and the absolute nodal coordinates. A spherical joint and the DOT1 constraint were developed to carry out the numerical simulation of mechanical systems with kinematic joints. A beam example was suggested to show the new formulation. The simulation results using the modal coordinates and the absolute nodal coordinates show a good agreement to the experiments.

  • This paper presents a spherical motor which can control in multi-degree of freedom operation. The spherical motor has been researched by many types of structure. Thhis paper shows a spherical shaped airgap and surfaced permanent magnets. Especially, The motor consists of dual rotor cores. Unlike a cylindrical motor, the spherical motor design can be considered with azimuth direction on spherical coordinates. Therefore the permanent magnet surfaced on the rotor need to be designed optimally in order to generate a sinusoidal magnetic flux density in the airgap. This paper presents results of optimal design for reducing torque ripple of the multi-degree of freedom spherical motor.

  • 전방향 3차원 라이다 센서와 비전 카메라는 자동차나 드론 등의 자율주행기술 개발에 활용되고 있다. 한편 라이다 센서와 카메라 좌표계 사이의 변환 관계를 보정하기 위한 기존의 기술들은 특수한 보정물체를 제작하거나 보정물체의 크기가 큰 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 한 개의 구형물체를 사용하여 두 센서 사이의 기하보정을 간편하게 구현하는 방법을 소개한다. 구형 물체의 3차원 거리정보에서 RANSAC으로 네 개의 3차원 점을 선택하여 구의 중심좌표를 계산하고, 카메라 영상에서 물체의 2차원 중심점을 구하여 두 센서를 보정하였다. 구는 다양한 각도에서 영상을 획득하여도 항상 원형의 형상을 유지하기 때문에 데이터 획득 시 유리한 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 방법으로 약 2픽셀의 투영오차의 결과를 얻었고, 기존의 방법과의 비교실험을 통하여 제안 기술의 성능을 분석하였다.

구면 좌표계의 특성을 이용한 듀얼 컨투어링 기법 개선 (Enhanced Dual Contouring method by using the Feature of Spherical Coordinate System)

  • 본 논문에서는 일반적으로 직교 좌표계에서 구현되는 듀얼 컨투어링을 구면 좌표계에서 구현하고 그 특성들을 살펴 본다. 듀얼 컨투어링을 구면 좌표계에서 구현하기 위해서 먼저 팔진 트리(octree)를 구면 좌표계에서 정의한다. 이렇게 정의된 구면 팔진 트리(spherical octree)를 기반으로 하는 듀얼 컨투어링 방식은 SDF(signed distance field) 등의 점진적 폴리곤화에서 직교 좌표계에서의 팔진 트리에 비해 동일한 트리 레벨에서 생성되는 버텍스(vertex) 갯수가 줄어드는 특징을 가진다. 특히 구면에 가까운 모델의 경우 압축 등 이용 가능한 정보가 제한적인 애플리케이션에서 직교 좌표계 보다 세밀하고 부드러운 곡면을 얻을 수 있는 장점이 있다.
