전기적 흡 . 탕착에 의한 제염폐액의 정화처리기술 (The Purification of Decontamination Liquid Waste by Electrosorption)

  • 화학제염이나 전지화학제염을 통해 발생된 방사성 폐액을 정화처리할 수 있는 새로운 방법으로, 다공성 활성탄소섬유(ACF)상에서 폐액중 코발트이온의 전기적 흡·탈착에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 회전원판 전극을 사용하여 순환전압전류법으로 전기이중층 충전만이 발생하는 전위 영역을 조사하였다. ACF 전극을 사용한 회분식 전기흡착 실험결과, 음의 전위 가용은 저위 미가용 시의 흡착에 비해 코발트이온의 흡착을 증가시켰다. 또한 흡착된 코발트 이온은 역전된 가용전위에 의해 용액으로 용출되었으며 이와 동시에 탄소체 전극이 재생되어, 전기흡착 공정의 가역성을 확인 할 수 있었다.

Use of americium as a burnable absorber for VVER-1200 reactor

  • The objective of this research is to the use of americium (AmO2) as a burnable absorber effectively instead of conventional gadolinium (Gd2O3) for VVER-1200 reactor by analyzing its impacts on reactivity, power peaking factor (PPF), safety factor, and quality of the spent fuel. The assembly is burned to 60 GWd/t by using SRAC-2006 code and JENDL-4.0 data library for finding the optimum amount and effective way of using AmO2 as a burnable absorber. From these studies, it is found that AmO2 can decrease the excess reactivity like Gd2O3 without changing the criticality life span and enrichment of 235U. A homogeneous mixture of the 0.20% AmO2+ 4.95% enriched UO2 fuel rod (model MF-4) decreases the PPF than the reference assembly. The use of AmO2+UO2 in the integral burnable absorber (IBA) rod or the outer layer could also decrease the PPF up to 10 GWd/t but increases rapidly after 30 GWd/t, which could be a safety threat. The fuel temperature coefficient and void coefficient of the model MF-4 are the same as the reference assembly. In addition, 22% of initially loaded Am are burning effectively and contributing to the power production.

  • As an example of research activities in decontamination for decommissioning, new data are presented on the options for corrosion layer dissolution during the decommissioning decontamination, or persulfate regeneration for decontamination solutions re-use. For the management of spent decontamination solutions, new method based on solvent extraction of radionuclides into ionic liquid followed by electrodeposition of the radionuclides has been developed. Fields of applications of composite inorganic-organic absorbers or solid extractants with polyacrylonitrile (PAN) binding matrix for the treatment of liquid radioactive waste are reviewed; a method for americium separation from the boric acid containing NPP evaporator concentrates based on the TODGA-PAN material is discussed in more detail. Performance of a model of radionuclide transport, developed and implemented within the GoldSim programming environment, for the safety studies of the LLW/ILW repository is demonstrated on the specific case of the Richard repository (Czech Republic). Continuation and even broadening of these activities are expected in connection with the approaching end of the lifespan of the first blocks of the Czech NPPs.

계육 Surimi에 Trehalose와 Oligosaccharide의 냉동변성 방지효과 (Effects of Trehalose and Oligosaccharide as Cryoprotectant in Chicken Surimi)

  • 계육 surimi에서 trehalose와 oligosaccharide의 단백질 냉동변성 방지효과를 구명하기 위하여 본 실험을 실시하였다. 기계발골노계육에 0.5% 소금물(고기:용액, 1:4)로 2회, 증류수로 1회 수세하여 surimi를 제조하였다. Trehalose와 oligosaccharide를 각각 8%씩 혼합한 후 $-18^{\circ}C$에서 10주간 냉동저장하였다. 모든 Surimi의 적색도(a*)는 냉동기간동안 감소하였다. 냉동기간중에 trehalose, oligosaccharide, 무첨가 순으로 명도가 높고 적색도와 황색도가 낮아 색택 안정성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 냉동기간중 surimi의 gel 강도(압착력, 경도, 탄성, 점착성)는 감소하였지만, trehalose와 oligosaccharide 첨가가 무침가구에 비해 유의적으로 높은 수준을 유지하였다. 냉동기간중에 부착성은 trehalose 첨가가 가장 높았다. 따라서 이들 당류가 계육 surimi에 단백질 냉동변성방지제로 효과가 인정되었으며, trehalose는 감미도가 기존 설탕보다 낮고 색깔 및 물성에서 oligosaccharide 보다 더 우수한 것으로 판단되었다.

BaF2 침전 및 불화물 용융염 전해 제련을 통한 폐 산세액 내 지르코늄 회수 (Recovery of Zirconium from Spent Pickling Acid through Precipitation Using BaF2 and Electrowinning in Fluoride Molten Salt)

  • Zirconium(Zr) nuclear fuel cladding tubes are made using a three-time pilgering and annealing process. In order to remove the oxidized layer and impurities on the surface of the tube, a pickling process is required. Zr is dissolved in HF and $HNO_3$ mixed acid during the process and pickling waste acid, including dissolved Zr, is totally discarded after being neutralized. In this study, the waste acid was recycled by adding $BaF_2$, which reacted with the Zr ion involved in the waste acid; $Ba_2ZrF_8$ was subsequently precipitated due to its low solubility in water. It is very difficult to extract zirconium from the as-recovered $Ba_2ZrF_8$ because its melting temperature is $1031^{\circ}C$. Hence, we tried to recover Zr using an electrowinning process with a low temperature molten salt compound that was fabricated by adding $ZrF_4$ to $Ba_2ZrF_8$ to decrease the melting point. Change of the Zr redox potential was observed using cyclic voltammetry; the voltage change of the cell was observed by polarization and chronopotentiometry. The structure of the electrodeposited Zr was analyzed and the electrodeposition characteristics were also evaluated.

Use of Bioluminescent Indicator Acinetobacter Bacterium for Screening and Characterization of Active Antimicrobial Agents

  • Because of the need for new antimicrobial substances with novel mechanisms of action, we report here the use of an Acinetobacter reporter system for high-throughput screening of active antimicrobial agents. The bioreporter Acinetobacter strain DF4/PUTK2 carrying luciferase genes luxCDABE was chosen because of its ecological importance and it is widespread in nature. This bioreporter is genetically engineered to emit light constitutively that can be measured in real time by luminometry. Hence, this reporter system was employed to determine the bacteriostatic actions of spent-culture supernatants derived from twelve bacterial isolates. Out of the results, the strongest bioluminescence inhibitory effect of the supernatants was recorded with Bacillus cereus strain BAC (S5). Subsequently, ethyl acetate extracts of extracellular products of strain BAC (S5) were separated by a thin-layer chromatography (TLC). Based on the bioluminescence inhibitory assay, three fractions were found to have antimicrobial activity. One fraction (C) having the strongest antimicrobial activity was further purified using TLC and characterized by IR, $^1H$ NMR, mass spectrometry, SDS-PAGE, and amino acid composition analysis. The results predicted the presence of 2-pyrrolidone-S-carboxylic acid (PCA) and the octadeconic-acid-like fatty acid. Fraction C also demonstrated a broad inhibitory activity on several Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. In conclusion, the Acinetobacter reporter system shows great potential to be a reliable, sensitive, and real-time indicator of the bacteriostatic actions of the antimicrobial agents.

봉준호 영화에 나타난 알레고리 연구 -영화 "설국열차"를 중심으로- (Study on Allegory shown in Bong Joon-ho's Cinema -Focusing on the Cinema "Snowpiercer"-)

  • 봉준호 감독의 그동안 영화에 나타난 시선이 국내문제에 국한된 내용이었다면 <설국열차>에서는 세계와 인류, 그리고 인간의 미래에 대한 시선으로 바뀌었다. 그의 영화 속에 나타나는 이미지들이 성서와 신화에 있는 이야기와 많은 부분이 그 의미를 같이한다. 영화에 나타난 감독의 철학적 세계를 기독교적 세계관과 동양의 순환사고로 살펴보고 이야기 구조에서 <설국열차>는 빙하기 이전과 열차에서 보낸 17년의 빙하기, 그리고 빙하기 이후로 표현되어 지고 있으며 이 이야기 구조는 이스라엘 민족이 애굽 탈출 이전과 40년의 광야 생활, 그리고 가나안 입성으로 알레고리 되어 있다. 성서에서의 종말은 완전한 파국을 의미하는 것은 아니며 새로운 시대를 열고 하나님과 새로운 언약을 맺으며 영원한 삶을 영위하는 새 하늘과 새 땅에 대한 염원이 담겨져 있다. 봉준호 감독이 인류의 미래에 대한 상상이 그동안과는 전혀 다른 의미로 전개된 <설국열차>를 알레고리로 해석하여 감독이 표층 위에 투사한 이미지 아래에 자리한 또 다른 의미를 설명하고자 한다.

리튬용융염계 산화성분위기에서 Al-Y 코팅한 Haynes 263의 고온 부식거동 (Hot Corrosion Behavior of Al-Y Coated Haynes 263 in Lithium Molten Salt under Oxidation Atmosphere)

  • The electrolytic reduction of spent oxide fuel involves the liberation of oxygen in a molten LiCl electrolyte, which results in a chemically aggressive environment that is very corrosive fir typical structural materials. So, it is essential to choose the optimum material f3r the process equipment handling molten salt. In this study, the corrosion behavior of Al-Y coated Haynes 263 in a molten salt of $LiCl-Li_2O$ under oxidation atmosphere was investigated at $650^{\circ}C$ for $72\~168$ hours. The corrosion rate of Al-Y coated Haynes 263 was low while that of bare Haynes 263 was high in a molten salt of $LiCl-Li_2O$. Al-Y coated Haynes 263 improved the corrosion resistance better than bare Haynes 263 alloy. An Al oxide layer acts as a protective film which Prohibits Penetration of oxygen. Corrosion Products were formed $Li(Ni,Co)O_2$ and $LiTiO_2$ on bare Haynes 263, but $LiAlO_2,\;Li_5Fe_5O_8\;and\;LiTiO_2$ on Al-Y coated Haynes 263.

염료감응형 태양전지의 착색 특성 개선 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Coloring in Dye-sensitized Solar Cell)

  • In this study, we have attempted a new method to enhance the coloring of dye on the $TiO_2$ surface in the dye sensitized solar cell. In the conventional coloring process in a dye sensitized solar cells, dye is absorbed by the covalent bond between TiO2 and dye molecule while the photo-electrode coated with $TiO_2$ layer is soaked in dye solution for about 12-24 hours. But this process takes long time, so we have researched more effective and faster way than the conventional process by applying electric field. Three kinds of electric power such as direct voltage, alternating voltage and pulse voltage were applied to the transparent conducting oxide during the coloring process. As a result, we achieved improved power, fill factor and efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cell in case of applying direct voltage and pulse voltage. In contrast, alternating voltage tend to reduce the dye adsorption on the $TiO_2$ surface and hence the efficiency. We measured the absorption spectra of dye by UV-VIS spectrophotometer before and after soaking the $TiO_2$ in the dye and found no characteristic change in the dye was observed. In this study, we researched on shortening time of coloring process which spent much time in the whole process.

침구류(寢具類)의 사용(使用) 실태(實態)에 관(關)한 조사(調査) 연구(硏究) - 대구지역(大邱地域)과 전국(全國) 8대(大) 지역(地域)의 비교(比較) - (A Study on Survey of The Actual Use of Bedding - Comparisons Between Taegu and Other Areas -)

  • Sleeping is important for human being in that it has a great effect on their daily activities. Considering that an average adult sleeps seven to eight hours a third of our life is spent in bed. The present study intends to make consumers aware of the important of the bedding science and help the manufactures develop efficient, up-to-date beds. For these two purposes, consumers' recognitions and opinions on the features of the bedding were surveyed. In the study, a questionnaire consisting of various items on the features of the bedding was designed and distributed to consumers in 8 regions & Taegu in Korea to survey the patterns in which they buy, use, and maintain their bedding. The result of the study are as follows; Air conditioner is widely used popular because of hot weather in Taegu. People in Taegu mostly purchase their bedding from market, in every 5~6 years. The important point to be considered for bedding purchases were humidity absorption, air permeability, light weight in summer comforters, thermal insulation, flexibility, color figure design in winter comforters, humidity absorption, flexibility, color figure design in mats. As summer bedding, a sheet of single-layer quilt and rush mat were most popular which indicates climate of hot and humid weather in Taegu. Bedding uses in winter were in order a sheet of cotton, silk, wool quilt, and silk quilt showed high level in contrast to other areas. Dissatisfactions with summer quilts were humidity absorption, air permeability, heaviness and in winter quilts they were dissatisfied with thermal insulation, heaviness, flattening. In details about bedding managements, people in Taegu most frequently disinfected their bedding by sunlight in one month, and refinished every 5 years.
