Evaluation of Back-EMF Estimators for Sensorless Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

  • This paper presents a comparative study of position sensorless control schemes based on back-electromotive force (back-EMF) estimation in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). The characteristics of the estimated back-EMF signals are analyzed using various mathematical models of a PMSM. The transfer functions of the estimators, based on the extended EMF model in the rotor reference frame, are derived to show their similarity. They are then used for the analysis of the effects of both the motor parameter variations and the voltage errors due to inverter nonlinearity on the accuracy of the back-EMF estimation. The differences between a phase-locked-loop (PLL) type estimator and a Luenberger observer type estimator, generally used for extracting rotor speed and position information from estimated back-EMF signals, are also examined. An experimental study with a 250-W interior-permanent-magnet machine has been performed to validate the analyses.

  • The input voltage of linear Induction motors(LIMs) is involved with the time harmonics because most LIM is driven by inverter. Therefore the equivalent circuit for an inverter-fed LIM has to be modifided to represent every harmonic present in supply voltage. This paper describes that the dynamic characteristic can be used effectively for analyzing the characteristics of a linear induction motor position and speed control.

  • This paper presents the sensorless drive method for mono inverter dual parallel (MIDP) surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) drive system. MIDP motor drive system is a technique that can reduce the cost of the multi motor driving system. To maximize this merit of the MIDP motor drive system, the sensorless technique is essential to eliminate the position sensors. This paper adopts an appropriate sensorless method for MIDP SPMSM drive system, which uses the reduced order observer and phase locked loop (PLL) to reduce the calculation burden. The I-F control method is implemented for start-up and low speed operation. The validity and performance of the proposed algorithm are shown via experiments with 600-W SPMSMs.

A Neutral-Voltage-Compensated Sensorless Control of Brushless DC Motor

  • This paper presents a new rotor position estimation method for brushless DC motors. The estimation error of the rotor position clearly provokes the phase shift angle misaligned between the phase current and the back-EMF waveforms, which causes torque ripple in brushless DC motor drives. Such an estimation error can be reduced with the help of the proposed neutral-voltage-based estimation method, which is structured as a closed loop observer. A neutral voltage appearing during the normal mode of the inverter operation is found to be an observable and control table measure, which can be used for estimating an exact rotor position. This neutral voltage is obtained from the DC-link current, the switching logic, and the motor speed values. The proposed algorithm, which can be easily implemented by using a single DC-link current and the motor terminal voltage sensors, is verified by simulation and experiment results.

  • In induction motor control, power efficiency as well as high dynamic performance is important. We attempt to achieve both of them by decoupled control of rotor speed and flux. A nonlinear feedback controller with a well-known rotor flux observer is proposed with its stability analysis. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed control method based on recently developed nonlinear feedback control theory is of practical use.

  • In electric motor coaches, the rolling stocks move by the adhesive effort between rail and driving wheel. Generally, the adhesive effort is defined by the function of both the wright of electric motor coach and the adhesive effort between rails and driving wheel. The characteristics of adhesive effort is strongly affected by the conditions between rails and driving wheel. When the adhesive effort decreases suddenly, the electric motor coach has slip phenomena. This paper proposes a re-adhesion control based on disturbance observer and sensor-less vector control. The numerical simulation and experimental results point out that the proposed re-adhesion control system has the desired driving wheel torque response for the tested bogie system of electric coach. Based on this estimated adhesive effort, the re-adhesion control is performed to obtain the maximum transfer of the tractive effort.

  • In this paper, the problem of designing a feedback controller for a robotic manipulator, which is activated by a D.C. motor through a gear train and a flexible shaft or chain, is considered. When the response of the closed loop control system is relatively slow, a satisfactory controller may be designed as a PID controller. As the speed of the control system increases, however, the spring effect of the linkage becomes profound, and as a result, the transient response exhibits a substantial oscillation. To eliminate this oscillation, it is necessary to design the controller based on at least a fourth order system model. This, in turn, requires the feedback of the entire state variables. In practice, however, only the position of the manipulator and the velocity of the motor are readily measurable. The state variable reconstruction method or a state observer cannot be used because of the system nonlinearities such as the Coulomb frictions. In this study, an alternative controller, which is based on delayed feedback of the output variable only, is proposed, and a successful delayed feedback controller is designed and implemented on an actual experimental manipulator.

  • 본 논문은 고속 영구자석형 동기전동기의 센서리스 제어에 관한 것이다. 정지상태에서 초기 기동시 부터 고속영역까지 센서리스 알고리즘을 구현하기 위하여 슬라이딩 모드 관측기를 적용하여 회전자의 회전각을 실시간으로 관측하여 벡터제어 알고리즘을 구현하였다. 슬라이딩 모드 관측기의 채트링을 개선하고 넓은 속도 범위에서 안정된 응답을 얻기 위하여 속도에 따른 가변 이득 알고리즘과 관측기의 수렴을 여부를 판별하여 제한된 PWM 주기 내에서 관측기를 반복수행 관측기의 성능을 개선하는 알고리즘을 제안 하였다. 또한 제안된 알고리즘을 실험을 통하여 검증을 하였다. 초기 기동시 및 고속 영역에서 우수한 성능의 센서리스 알고리즘 구현되었을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, the effects of encoder fault and current sensor fault in direct torque controlled induction motor drives are analyzed. On the basis of the analyzed results, a observer based fault detection and isolation scheme is presented. To verify the performance of proposed algorithms, the speed control system is designed for induction motor and evaluated by experimental study. Experimental results various type of sensor faults show the detection and isolation performance of the SFDIS and the applicability of this scheme to fault tolerant control system design.

  • 센서리스 제어를 위한 상태 관측기의 설계시 기존의 바이너리 관측기의 성능을 향상시키기 위해 스위칭 평면에 적분항을 추가함으로서 정상상태의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있다. 또한 전동기의 관성계수나 마찰계수와 같은 운동방정식의 파라미터들은 계측하기 어려우며 관측기의 성능저하를 야기하므로 실제구현에서도 많은 제약이 따른다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 적응 적분바이리 관측기를 제안하다. 그리고 정격속도 이상으로 구동하기 위해서 약계자 영역에서의 센서리스 제안한다. IPMSM이 w가 보다 높은 속도에서 운전되기 위해서는 정격전압이상의 입력이 요구되어진다. 그러나 정격전압에서 d축 전류가 회전자 자속을 감소시키는 방향으로 주입된다면 더 높은 속도에서 운전되어질 수 있다.
