Understanding a ship's present position has been one of the most important tasks during a ship's voyage, in both ancient and modern times. Particularly, a ship's dead reckoning (DR) has been used for predicting traffic situations and collision avoidance actions. However, the current system that uses the traditional method of calculating DR employs the received position and speed data only. Therefore, it is not applicable for predicting navigation within the harbor limits, owing to the frequent changes in the ship's course and speed in this region. In this study, planned routes were applied for improving the reliability of the proposed system and predicting the traffic patterns in advance. The proposed method of determining the dead reckoning position (DRP) uses not only the ships' received data but also the navigational patterns and tracking data in harbor limits. The Mercator sailing formulas were used for calculating the ships' DRPs and planned routes. The data on the traffic patterns were collected from the automatic identification system and analyzed using MATLAB. Two randomly chosen ships were analyzed for simulating their tracks and comparing the DR method during the timeframes of the ships' movement. The proposed method of calculating DR, combined with the information on planned routes and DRPs, is expected to contribute towards improving the decision-making abilities of operators.
Future exhaust gas limits for diesel-driven passenger cars will force the automotive industry to significantly improve the performance of engine. Since modern common-rail injection systems deliver more degrees of freedom referring to the injection process, again the optimization of the injection process could offer a possibility to meet the exhaust gas limits. This study describes the characteristic the pilot spray structure of piezo-driven injector for a passenger car common-rail system to be applicable multiple injection caused by fast response rather than solenoid-driven injector. The piezo-driven injector is prototype injector with same needle chamber of solenoid injector and the solenoid-driven one is commercial injector. The pilot spray characteristic such as spray tip penetration, spray speed, spray angle were obtained by spray images, which is measured by the Mie scattering method with optical system for high-speed temporal photography. It was found that piezo-driven injector effected electric change as important factor and showed faster response than solenoid-driven injector.

In this study, extinction limit extension of unsteady $(CH_{4}+N_{2})$/air diffusion flames was investigated experimentally. A spatially locked flame in an opposing jet burner was perturbed by linear velocity variation, and time-dependent flame luminosity, transient maximum flame temperature and OH radical were measured over time with the high speed camera, Rayleigh scattering method and OH laser-induced fluorescence, respectively. Unsteady flames survive at strain rates that are much higher than the extinction limit of steady flames, and unsteady extinction limits extend as the slope of the strain rate increases or the initial strain rate decreases. We verified the validity of the equivalent strain rate concept by comparing the course of unsteady extinction process and steady extinction process, and it was found that the equivalent strain rate concept represents well the unsteady effect of a convective-diffusive zone. To investigate the reason of the unsteady extinction limit extension, we subtracted the time lag of the convective-diffusive zone by using the equivalent strain concept. Then the modified unsteady extinction limits become smaller than the original unsteady extinction limits, however, the modified unsteady extinction limits are still larger than the steady extinction limits. These results suggest that there exist the unsteady behavior of a diffusive-reactive zone near the extinction limit due to the chemical non-equilibrium states associated with unsteady flames.
The torque ripple of switched reluctance motors (SRMs) is the main disadvantage that limits the industrial application of these motors. Although several methods for smooth-toque operation (STO) have been proposed, STO works well only within a certain torque and speed range because of the constraints of the supply voltage and peak current. Based on previous work that sought to expand the STO range, a scheme is developed in this study to determine the maximum smooth torque range at each speed. The relationship between the maximum smooth torque and speed is defined as the smooth torque speed characteristics (STSC), a concept similar to torque speed characteristics (TSC). STSC can be utilized to evaluate torque utilization by comparing it with TSC. Thus, the concept benefits the special design of SRMs, especially for the generation of smooth torque. Furthermore, the torque sharing function (TSF) derived from the proposed method can be applied to STO, which produces a higher smooth torque over a wider speed range in contrast to four typical TSFs. TSimulation and experimental results verify the proposed method.

Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) has become a popular choice in electric vehicle applications, due to their excellent power to weight ratio. The paper is proposed maximum torque control of IPMSM drive using learning mechanism-fuzzy neural network(LM-FNN) controller and artificial neural network(ANN). The control method is applicable over the entire speed range and considered the limits of the inverter's current and voltage rated value. For each control mode, a condition that determines the optimal d-axis current $i_{d}$ for maximum torque operation is derived. This paper considers the design and implementation of novel technique of high performance speed control for IPMSM using LM-FNN controller and ANN controller. The hybrid combination of neural network and fuzzy control will produce a powerful representation flexibility and numerical processing capability. Also, this paper is proposed speed control of IPMSM using LM-FNN and estimation of speed using ANN controller. The back propagation neural network technique is used to provide a real time adaptive estimation of the motor speed. The proposed control algorithm is applied to IPMSM drive system controlled LM-FNN and ANN controller, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail. Also, this paper is proposed the analysis results to verify the effectiveness of the LM-FNN and ANN controller.

Along with the increase of railway catenary system operation speed to 400 km/h, there have been growing demands for good quality current collection systems that satisfy quality standards as well as criteria for safe working. Retaining uniform elasticity tension of contact wires is essential in maintaining high quality contact between pantograph and OCL (Overhead Contact Line) of current collection systems in high speed railways. Therefore, the tension of contact wire must be kept within tight tolerance limits in both working conditions and adverse weather conditions of catenary system. In accordance with these conditions, this paper presents a real time monitoring system for the tensioning device of the newly installed catenary system on the special route of Honam high speed line for 400 km/h operation. For the verification of the true value of tension of contact wires, we have developed ring-type tensioning sensors which were installed on supporting points of mast which compose the catenary system. According to the field test performed on the Honam high speed line catenary system, variation of tension was measured accurately in real-time.

This research is the result on calculating the logical speed limit through certain process which some elements must be considered on selecting the speed limit of harbour and waterway. The suggested speed limit select model on this research is processed from 1~6 steps by forming a professional group of experts. Each step has its information which 1st step(water division), 2nd step(selecting the model vessel and vessel applied with speed limit.), 3rd step(selecting the maximum and minimum speed range on each section), 4th step(evaluation on the safeness of traffic), 5th step(suggesting the appropriate speed limit), 6th step(execution and evaluation.). The appropriate speed limit was decided on consideration of the safety of maritime traffic on the range of the maximum speed and the minimum speed. This model was used to derive the appropriate speed limit on the harbour water and Busan harbour entrance waterway. As the result, the harbour water was calculated to be 6.9 knots, the appropriate speed limit of Busan entrance harbour was 9.3 knots. The present calculation of the speed limit on the approaching channel area is 10 knots, inner harbour area is 7 knots, which are similar to the result of the speed limit. This research is the first research on selecting the speed limit model and has its limits on finding the perfect speed limit result. More detailed standards on the safeness of traffic evaluation must be found and additional study is necessary on discriminating consideration of the elements. This research has its value which it provides instances of aboard cases on guidelines of selecting the speed limit.

Most of spindles for machine tool are supported by ball bearings, and there are problems in the limits of high speed and high power as well as the cumbersome maintenance due to the short life time. In order to overcome these problems of the conventional spindles, the high speed spindle with magnetic bearings is developed in this study. Magnetic bearings for 60 000 r/min class high-speed spindle are designed, and high speed spindle with magnetic bearings are fabricated. Based on the running test up to 60 000 r/min, it is verified that the spindle is stably supported by the magnetic bearings, and the magnitude of the unbalance response at 60 000 r/min is less than $3{\mu}m$.

A pulse width modulation-voltage source inverter (PWM-VSI) is used for variable speed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. The PWM-VSI fed PMSM has two major disadvantages. Firstly, the PWM-VSI DC-link voltage limits the magnitude of the PMSM terminal voltage. As a result, the motor speed is restricted. Secondly, in a low speed range, the PWM-VSI modulation index declines. This is caused by a high DC-link voltage and a low terminal voltage ratio. As a result, the distortion of the voltage command and the stator current are increased. This paper proposes an optimal pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) control which can adjust the inverter DC-link voltage by using a buck-boost DC-DC converter. At a low speed range, the proposed system can reduce the distortion of the voltage command, which improves the stator current waveform. Also, the allowable speed range is extended. In order to verify the proposed method, experimental results are provided to confirm the simulation results.
This study set out to evaluate the fitness of shelter locations by taking into consideration service zones according to walking speed, the changing population between day and night, and walking routes. Walking speed was defined as 1.6 m/s, 2 m/s based on the cases of previous studies. The changing population between day and night was estimated with the dasymetric mapping technique. Shelter service zones according to walking speed and routes were analyzed with the network of the location allocation model. The findings show some shelters had limits with their capacity according to the changing floating population and walking speed in time and space and raise a need to appoint additional shelters.
