  • Mode conversion type ultrasonic rotary motor using bolt tightened Langevin type vibrator was studied. Driving frequency of the motor, displacements and elliptical trajectories at tip of the coupler were simulated by finite element analysis program (ANSYS). Speed and torque of the fabricated motor were measured as functions of input voltage and load. As results, from FEA the driving frequency of 40.8[kHz] and useful elliptical trajectories were found. Fabricated motor rotated clockwise at frequency of 38.2[kHz]. Speed and torque of the motor were increased when the input voltage was increased. Maximum speed, torque and efficiency were 75[rpm], 0.14[Nm] and 6.28[%], respectively.

  • Railway is an important transportation tool for nation's industrial development and public daily life. These days the concern about railway has remarkably been rising due to the April 2004 opening of KTX, Korea High Speed Rail, together with Trans-Continental Railways linking North Korea, China, Russia, through European countries. In the meantime, the issues of train safety and efficiency, arising from the different on-board signaling systems installed on different kinds of trains, have been raised incessantly. In this paper CTCS(Continental Train Control System) is suggested, which can accommodate such various signaling functions as ATP, ATC, ATS, etc. into one single type of on-board signaling system and operate without changing ground signaling systems on the junctions of the Trans-Continental Railways. The development of this CTCS would cause speed-up of exiting lines and possession of railway core solutions for establishing Northeast Asia logistics center bases, which could be an important cornerstone for domestic railway improvements and Korea's role of Northeast Hub.

  • The most important thing to secure safety and reliability of railway vehicles is to verify performance characteristics of equipments, and related companies or research institutes had many efforts to verify performances and functions of equipments synthetically and efficiently. KHST(Korean High Speed Train) has been developed by KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute). An electric railway system is composed of high-tech subsystems, among which main electric equipment such as transformers and converter are critical components determining the performance of rolling stock. We developed a measurement system for on-line test and evaluation of performances of KHST. The measurement system is composed of software part and hardware part. Perfect interface between multi-users is possible. A new method to measure temperature was applied to the ]measurement system. By using the system, fault diagnosis and performance evaluation of electric equipment in Korean High Speed Train was conducted during test running.

  • This paper presents a design of a divide unit supporting IEEE-754 floating point standard single-precision with 32-bit word length. Its functions have been verified with ALTERA MAX PLUS II tool. For a high-speed division operation, the radix-4 non-restoring algorithm has been applied and CLA(carry-look -ahead) adders has been used in order to improve the area efficiency and the speed of performance for the fraction division part. The prevention of the speed decrement of operations due to clocking has been achieved by taking advantage of combinational logic. A quotient select block which is very complicated and significant in the high-radix part was designed by using P-D plot in order to select the fast and accurate quotient. Also, we designed all division steps with Gate-level which visualize the operations and delay time.

  • In this paper, we are applied the Genetic Algorithm(GA) to design of the robust $H^{\infty}$ speed controller by auto-tuning of the weighting function. GA is used to design of the weighting functions in the robust $H^{\infty}$ controller. To evaluate the performances of the proposed robust $H^{\infty}$ controller, we make an experiment on $H^{\infty}$ speed controller of an actual DC servo- motor system with nonlinear characteristics. Experimental results show that proposed controller have better performance than those of PD controller.

  • This paper presents a new speed and position sensorless control method of permanent magnet synchronous motors based on the sliding mode observer. The sliding mode observer structure and its design method are described. Also, Lyapunov functions are chosen for determining the adaptive law for the speed and the stator resistance estimator. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is confirmed by the experimental results.

  • The aerodynamically excited vibration and natural frequency of rotating disks are analytically studied in this paper. The theoretical analysis uses a fluid-structure model where the aerodynamic effects are represented in terms of elastic, lift and drag forces. The explicit expressions on natural frequencies of the air coupled disk are obtained as functions of the aerodynamic coefficients. for the three cases where the disk rotates in three different cases (in vacuum, in open air without enclosure, and close to rigid wall). The theoretical results give that the natural frequencies of rotating disks in air are smaller than those in vacuum, because the effect of the added fluid mass decreases the frequencies. This paper also proposes an analytical method to predict the flutter speed of a rotating disk.

  • This paper describes the high speed PLC-based remote control system that can monitor and control textile machineries bi-directionally through Internet. There are many textile machineries without network functions in the factory. We apply the PLC technology in order to give a network function to them in which the existing electric power line is used with network communication lines without separate wiring constructions. In order to realize this system, we have implemented a protocol for network communication of system, high-speed PLC modules, and Ethernet-to-UART modules. Finally we confirmed the effectiveness of system by applying actual test environments.

  • In this paper, a new algorithm has been presented that helps to preserve diversity as well as to enhance the convergence speed of the evolutionary programming. This algorithm is based on the cell partitioning of search region for preserving the diversity. Until now, the greater part of researches is not concerned about preserving the diversity of individuals in a population but improving convergence speed. Although these evolutions are started from multi-point search at the early phase, but at the end those search points are swarming about a one-point, the strong candidate. These evolutions vary from the original idea in some points such as multi-point search. In most case we want to find the only one point of the best solution not several points in the vicinity of that. That is why the cell partitioning of search region has been used. By restricting the search area of each individual, the diversity of individual in solution space is preserved and the convergence speed is enhanced. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm has been verified through benchmark test functions.

  • In this paper, the train resistances for HSR-350x(Korean High Speed Train project), which has been obtained by the coast-down test, have been proposed in cases of the open field and tunnel. They are approximated as quadratic functions suggested by the Davis equation. The coast-down simulations for HSR-350x using the estimated train resistances have performed and the results have been compared with those of the same conditions of the coast-down tests. It is concluded that the proposed train resistances can be considered to provide good estimations for HSR-350x. Also, the effects of the infrastructure conditions, such as tracks, curves and tunnels have been reviewed. These results show that the tunnel plays an important role in determining the train resistance but others does not.
