  • We propose and experimentally demonstrate an all-optical radio frequency (RF) spectrum broadening system based on time compression. By utilizing the procedure of dispersion compensation values, the frequency domain is broadened by compressing the linear chirp optical pulse which has been multiplexed by the radio frequency. A detailed mathematical description elucidates that the time compression is a very preferred scheme for spectrum broadening. We also report experimental results to prove this method, magnification factor at 2.7, 8 and 11 have been tested with different dispersion values of fiber, the experimental results agree well with the theoretical results. The proposed system is flexible and the magnification factor is determined by the dispersion values, the proposed scheme is a linear system. In addition, the influence of key parameters, for instance optical bandwidth and the sideband suppression ratio (SSR), are discussed. Magnification factor 11 of the proposed system is demonstrated.

  • In digital signal processing, the polyphase decomposition of signal has been often used in the implementation of multirate system. Especially, in the design of digital filter and so forth the method in very useful to improve the performance of various algorithms because it provides the multi-channel for paralled processing. Generally, the polyphase-decomposed signals tend to expand the frequency band by including more high frequencies than original signal from decimation for down sampling. This property brings about the significant limitation in the structure or the performance of digital polyphase signal processing system. In this paper we theoretically propose a perfect band compression and reconstruction method for polyphase component signals, then experimentally show its effectiveness through Matlab simulation.

  • Purpose: In this study, we developed a 4-way sway prevention brace that efficiently reduces the installation area and has excellent stability and seismic performance compared to the conventionl sway prevention brace used in existing firefighting facilities. The performance and reliability of the developed 4-way way prevention brace were analyzed by the tensile, compression tests and seismic tests. Method: As the static test, 4-way sway prevention braces were installed on the horizontal and vertical pipes to perform the tensile and compression tests based on the KFI certification standard and the maximum movement was measured at the rated load. As a dynamic test, 4-way sway prevention braces were installed in the pipes filled with water, and the test response spectrum to the input excitation wave were measured through the acceleration sensors. After the seismic tests, separation, failure, and local deformation of the pipes, and 4-way sway prevention braces were not observed. Result: The results of the tensile and compression tests indicated that the maximum movement of the pipe during tension and compression was 50% to 70% or less compared to the certification values, indicating that the performances of the 4-way sway prevention braces were very excellent. The results of the the seismic tests indicated that the test response spectrum of the 4-way sway prevention braces is within the required response spectrum. Conclusion: In this study, it was found that the 4-way sway prevention braces satisfied the KFI certification standard and were superior compared to the existing sway prevention brace in terms of the stability, cost, and installation area.

  • This study aimed to ascertain the most efficient level of compression to be applied on a particular area along the upper extremities whilst developing functionality to prevent musculoskeletal disorders among workers who frequently use their arms. The compression areas were divided into upper arm, forearm, and wrist. The compression levels were applied using three types of bands. Comparisons on these bands' usability were based on evaluations of recorded brainwaves and subjective sensation response. Nine men in their twenties were selected for the experiment. The results revealed that when compression was applied, the left and right occipital lobes, plus the parietal lobe, were activated. Also, the alpha wave activity tended to increase, thereby exemplifying the compression's positive effects. The most physiologically efficient and subjectively preferred compression levels were 1.3 and 2.6 kPa for the upper arm and wrist. Furthermore, the compression level at the forearm should be at least 2.0 kPa.

  • Efficient numerical finite element analysis of creeping concrete structures requires the use Kelvin or Maxwell chain model, which is most conveniently identified from a continuous retardation or relaxation spectrum, the spectrum in turn being determined from the given compliance or relaxation function. The method of doing that within the context of solidification theory for creep with aging was previously worked out by Bazant and Xi, but only for the case of a continuous retardation spectrum based on Kelvin chain. The present paper is motivated by the need to incorporate concrete creep into the recently published microplane model M4 for nonlinear triaxial behavior of concrete, including tensile fracturing and behavior under compression. In that context. the Maxwell chain is more effective than Kelvin chain. because of the kinematic constraint of the microplanes used in M4. Determination of the continuous relaxation spectrum for Maxwell chain. based on the solidification theory, is outlined and numerical examples are presented.

  • The fast and accurate spectrum sensing over an ultra-wide bandwidth is a big challenge for the radio environment cognition. Considering sparse signal feature, two novel compressed sensing schemes are proposed, which can reduce compressed sampling rate in contrast to the traditional scheme. One algorithm is dynamically adjusting compression ratio based on modulation recognition and identification of symbol rate, which can reduce compression ratio. Furthermore, without priori information of the modulation and symbol rate, another improved algorithm is proposed with the application potential in practice, which does not need to reconstruct the signals. The improved algorithm is divided into two stages, which are the approaching stage and the monitoring stage. The overall sampling rate can be dramatically reduced without the performance deterioration of the spectrum detection compared to the conventional static compressed sampling rate algorithm. Numerous results show that the proposed compressed sensing technique can reduce sampling rate by 35%, with an acceptable detection probability over 0.9.

  • This paper aims to extract characteristics of the spectrum of fingerprint image and to apply them to image enhancement techniques in spatial frequency domain. Based on 1$\times$64 window as a processing unit and the different record lengths(32, 16, 8), the estimate of power spectrum density for each length was made. Each acquired spectrum characteristics was applied to the re-synthesis process of the fingerprint image, an improved gray scale image was obtained. In order to select an optimal predictor and the Huffman table for the fingerprint iamge, the lossless JPEG algorithm was used. Experiments were performed for extracting distribution characteristics for the each of 7 predictors from the fingerprint image and modeling processes, and the result was applied to the data compression algorithm and the selection of the optimal predictor.

  • Maxwell displacement current(MDC) measuring technique has been applied on the study of monolayers of fatty acid. The displacement current was generated from monolayers on the water surface by monolayer compression and expansion. Displacement current was generated when the area per molecule was about $130{\AA}^2$. MDCs were investigated in connection with monolayer compression cycles. It was found that the current pulses were generated over the entire range of molecular area, and the maximum of MDC appeared at the molecular area just before the initial rise of surface pressure in compression cycles. We investigated the change in absorption spectra of the fatty acid(8A5H) monolayer LB film due to cis-trans photoisomerization. It was found that the absorption spectrum of the 8A5H LB film was induce to photoisomerization by alternate irradiation with UV and visible light irradiation.
