  • This paper proposes a new noise suppression method using the Wavelet transform analysis. The noise suppressor using the Wavelet transform shows the more effective advantages in a babble noise than one using the short-time Fourier transform. We designed a new channel structure based on spectral subtraction of Wavelet transform coefficients and used the Wavelet mask pattern with more higher time resolution in high frequency. It showed a good adaptation capability for babble noise with a non-stationary property. To evaluate the performance of proposed noise canceller, the informal subjective listening tests (Mos tests) were performed in background noise environments (car noise, street noise, babble noise) of mobile communication. The proposed noise suppression algorithm showed about MOS 0.2 performance improvements than the suppression algorithm of EVRC in informal listening tests. The noise reduction by the proposed method was shown in spectrogram of speech signal.

  • In the companion paper (II, Development of Site Classification System), new size classification system based on site periods $(T_G)$ was recommended for legions of shallow bedrock depth in Korea. Despite the site classification method was improved, the response spectrum would be required to be modified by adjusting the integration interval to calculate the site coefficients because the response spectra did not match well the average spectral accelerations obtained by site response analyses in the range of long periods. In this paper, new response spectra for each site categories were determined by adjusting the integration interval of long period site coefficient $F_v\;from\;0.4{\sim}2.0\;to\;0.4{\sim}1.5$ second. It matched well the average spectral accelerations and new response spectrum, and it was also improved compared to the current she classification system.

  • The study presents the linear dynamic analysis of multi-girder steel bridges under vehicular movement to examine the performance characteristics due to the various structural and loading conditions. The road surface roughness and bridge-vehicle interactions are considered. The road surface profiles for the approaching roadway and bridge decks are generated from power spectral density functions for different road roughness conditions. A new filtering method using the wheel trace is proposed to obtain the more rational bridge-vehicle interactions from the randomly generated road surface. The possible settlement condition between the bridge deck and approaching roadway is also included. The dynamic responses of various bridges designed according to current design practice are examined, in which important structural parameters(such as span length, girder spacing, etc.) are considered systematically. In addition to the basic loading conditions due to a single truck passing on the bridge, the traffic conditions of multi-truck traveling either consecutively on the same lane or side-by-side on the adjacent lanes are also evaluated.

  • When using a high-power amplifier(HPA) for high-speed communication, the nonlinear characteristics of the HPA deteriorate power efficiency, bit error rate(BER) performance, and spectral efficiency. Because it is inevitable to use the HPA to obtain sufficient transmission power for high-speed communication, it is necessary to compensate for nonlinearity of the HPA by using a predistorter. In this study, a predistorter was used to compensate for the nonlinearity of the HPA, and the nonlinear distortion was compensated using the predistorter. Simulation results show that the compensation of the nonlinearity of the HPA using the predistorter achieves a BER performance similar to that of an ideal linear amplifier, and that the spectral mask is also satisfied.

  • The CBTC(Communication based Train Control) system employed on 2.4GHz ISM band adopt the IEEE802.11.x standard. Therefor communication time delay, distortion and data losses will be produced. To overcome these problems, CPSK(Continuous Phase shift keying) modulated DS/SS(Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) transmitter with 908MHz carrier frequency is proposed. Through the eye diagram and scatter diagram the performance is analysed. And the phase noise characteristic of the local oscillator is measured about 60dBc/Hz, this means that the phase noise performance is very good compared to the signal. Reference frequency suppression of the 2nd local oscillator is 50dB below compared to the signal. Through the polarities of the complementary signal equally probable, the line spectrum of the output spectrum is eliminated. The nonlinear effects which introduce the spectral spreading or spectral regeneration is reduced remarkably.

  • A general characterization procedure based on the extraction of a 2n-port admittance matrix corresponding to n uniform coupled lines on the multi-layered substrate using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) technique is presented. In this paper, the frequency-dependent normal mode parameters are obtained from the 2n-port admittance matrix to analyze multi-layered asymmetric coupled line structure, which in turn provides the frequency-dependent propagation constant, effective dielectric constant, and line-mode characteristic impedances. To illustrate the technique, several practical coupled line structures on multi-layered substrate have been simulated. Especially, embedded conductor structures have been simulated. Comparisons with Spectral Domain Method are given, and their results agree well. It is shown that the FDTD based time domain characterization procedure is an excellent broadband simulation tool for the design of multiconductor coupled lines on multilayered PCBs as well as thick or thin hybrid structures.

  • In this paper, a novel spectral-spatial joint sparse representation algorithm for hyperspectral image classification is proposed based on multi-layer superpixels in various scales. Superpixels of various scales can provide complete yet redundant correlated information of the class attribute for test pixels. Therefore, we design a joint sparse model for a test pixel by sampling similar pixels from its corresponding superpixels combinations. Firstly, multi-layer superpixels are extracted on the false color image of the HSI data by principal components analysis model. Secondly, a group of discriminative sampling pixels are exploited as reconstruction matrix of test pixel which can be jointly represented by the structured dictionary and recovered sparse coefficients. Thirdly, the orthogonal matching pursuit strategy is employed for estimating sparse vector for the test pixel. In each iteration, the approximation can be computed from the dictionary and corresponding sparse vector. Finally, the class label of test pixel can be directly determined with minimum reconstruction error between the reconstruction matrix and its approximation. The advantages of this algorithm lie in the development of complete neighborhood and homogeneous pixels to share a common sparsity pattern, and it is able to achieve more flexible joint sparse coding of spectral-spatial information. Experimental results on three real hyperspectral datasets show that the proposed joint sparse model can achieve better performance than a series of excellent sparse classification methods and superpixels-based classification methods.

  • This paper presents the design and fabrication of a planar nano-diffraction grating for an integrated miniature spectrometer module. The proposed planar nano-diffraction grating consists of nonuniform periods, to focus the reflected beams from the grating's surface, and an asymmetrical V-shaped groove profile, to provide uniform diffraction efficiency in the wavelength range from 400 to 650 nm. Also, to fabricate the nano-diffraction grating using low-cost UV-NIL technology, we analyzed the FT-IR spectrum of a uvcurable resin and optimized the conditions for the UV curing process. Then, we precisely fabricated the polymeric nano-diffraction grating within 5 nm in dimensional accuracy. The integrated spectrometer module using the fabricated polymeric planar nano-diffraction grating provides spectral resolution of 5 nm and spectral bandwidth of 250 nm. Our integrated spectrometer module using a polymeric planar nano-diffraction grating serves as a quick and easy solution for many spectrometric applications.

  • The response spectrum is one of the important basic materials for the aseismic design. Numerous strong ground motions based on the seismic source characteristics for the earthquakes occurring in the Korean Peninsula were simulated to obtain the response spectra by using the computer program, SMSIM, developed by Boore (2005). Through the extensive review of other study outcomes, the input data for the simulation such as seismic source and attenuation characteristics were selected. The spectra obtained from the simulated ground motions were normalized to 1.0 g of zero period acceleration and compared with the standard response spectrum proposed by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC, 1973). In this study, we found that the spectral values for the response spectra appeared to be larger than those of the standard spectrum in the frequency band above roughly 10 Hz. The variation of resulting response spectra was evaluated with the variable stress drops. It was shown that the spectral amplitude of the spectrum for the larger stress drop denotes higher value in the low frequency range.
