Stability analysis of truss type highway sign support structures

  • The design of truss type sign support structures is based on the guidelines provided by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Standard Specifications for Highway Signs, Luminaries and Traffic Signals and the American Institute of Steel Construction Design Specifications. Using these specifications, the column design strength is normally determined using the effective length approach. This approach does not always accurately address all issues associated with frame stability, including the actual end conditions of the individual members, variations of the loads in the members, and the resulting sidesway buckling for truss type sign support structures. This paper provides insight into the problems with the simplified design approach for determining the effective lengths and discusses different approaches for overcoming these simplifications. A system buckling approach, also known as a rational buckling analysis, is used in this study to determine improved predictions for design strength of truss type sign support structures.

  • In this study, an aluminum bodyshell with a modular front end made of composite materials is numerically evaluated applying the standard specifications for the urban EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) train. Structural analyses under compressive load, torsional load and free vibration satisfy the standard specifications, but analysis under normal load doesn't. By the way, the aluminum bodyshell of the car except the modular front end is almost same to that of the Korean standard EMU, which satisfy the standard specifications. It is presumed that the stiffness of the modular front end made of composite materials has some influence on the strength of the aluminum bodyshell.

  • This paper describes a research result on automatic generation of abstract test cases from formal specifications by applying many related algorithms and techniques such as the testing framework, rural Chinese postman tour and unique input output sequence concepts. In addition, an efficient algorithm for verifying the strong connectivity of the reference finite state machine and the concept of unique event sequence are explained. We made use of several techniques to from an integrated framework for abstract test case generation from LOTOS and SDL specifications. A prototype of the proposed framework has been built with special attention to real protocol in order to generate the executable test cases in an automatic way. The abstract test cases in tree and tabular combined notation (TTCN) language will be applied to the TTCN compiler in order to obtain the executable test cases which re relevant to the industrial application.

  • The object of this paper is to propose a method to deal with the problem of modeling user specifications in approaches based on supervisory control and Petri nets. However, most of Petri Net approaches are based on forbidden states specifications, and these specifications are suitable the use of tool such as the reachability graph. But these methods were not able to show the user specification easily and these formalisms are generally limited by the combinatorial explosion that occurs when attempting to model complex systems. Herein, we propose a new efficient method using FSSTP (Forbidden Sequences of State-Transitions Problem) and theory of region. Also, to detect and avoid the deadlock problem in control process, we use DAPN method (Deadlock Avoidance Petri nets) for solving this problem in control model.

  • Process capability has long been viewed as a critical performance measure to indicate how well a process meet the specifications and customer requirements. Several indices, including $C_p$ and $C_{pk}$, have been proposed and widely implemented to quantify the process capability. However, these indices have been obtained without regard to inspection or screening procedures through which finished products will be truncated at the specifications. Consequently, only a fraction of outgoing products within the specifications will be passed into the customers. From the customer's point of view, it will thus be meaningful to assess the process capability with truncated samples. This article investigates how to estimate the process capability when only incomplete truncated data are available. On the basis of parameter estimation for truncated samples, the proposed methodology may be helpful to evaluate the process capability by examining a sample of items from the lots submitted.

  • The technology of North Korea has not reached the modem level even though it has economic potential. Standardization and quality control have comprehensively prevailed in South Korea since the 1970s, which is considered to have been based of quality improvement. In the course of an active interchange between South and North, it is necessary to grasp the phenomenon on the quality and reliability control of North Korea. This study will put its relevant terms in order and make a comparison between specifications of North Korea and South Korea in the reliability test plans.

  • Design standard specifications for structures applied to Seoul-Pusan High Speed Rail construction were established in 1991. Those specifications have been changed and supplemented in the process of above construction, and need to improve in accordance with the new criteria for construction works of Korean government. Also, a settlement of the criteria for prevention against disasters of Seoul-Pusan High Speed Rail is needed, and related specifications have been revised. The design criteria for Seoul-Pusan High Speed Rail are enacted with knowhow which resulted from High Speed Rail construction, and those are enacted for the purpose of establishing criteria for High Speed Rail construction in the inside and outside of Korea.

  • 위성에 탑재된 지구관측용 카메라는, 지상의 망원경과 같은 원리로, 우주상공에서 지표면 관측을 자동적으로 수행하고 관측정보를 지상으로 전달해 주는 장치다. 이용 목적에 따라 카메라의 해상도 또는 분해능, 관측대역, 관측폭, 위성의 궤도 등의 규격이 결정된다. 고해상도는 카메라 관련 제반 기술 및 경험이 부족한 국내의 여건에 적합한 소형 위성용 고해상도 카메라의 규격을 제시하며 이에 따른 광학 설계와 제작, 조립 및 측정오차를 제시한다.

  • The evaluation of simulation models against ADS-33 quantitative rotorcraft handling qualities metrics has, in the past, been a time consuming effort, involving many individual analyses in both the time and frequency domains. Manual tuning of control system parameters to meet handling qualities and performance specifications has been cumbersome and complicated. Performing rigorous trade-off studies for numerous variations in the control system is too time consuming to be practicable. With the complex interaction of time- and frequency based specifications for the closed- and broken-loop responses, it is difficult to know if the design makes the most effective use of the available control power. The Control Designer's Unified Interface (CONDUIT) software makes possible rapid optimization and trade-offs of design configurations against handling qualities specifications.

  • This study deals with an autonomous generation of simulation codes for the design of processes of c CIM system based on the concept of model transformation. We assume we have a functional model of an organization which is developed using the well-known IDEF0 methodology. Then, a modeling methodology, called PROWD(PRocess flOW Description), is suggested to develop the flow processes of the organization. To Derive simulation specifications for the transformed PROWD model, we define a module of a "unit system" for each activity of PROWD model. Then specifications for system entities and resources are derived from input/control/mechanism/output and entity flows of PROWD model. Entitiy queues are defined from the sates and events of unit systems. Finally, SIMAN model frame is generated from those specifications through a suggested algorithm. The implementability and validity of the proposed approach is tested by developing a prototype of a computer-assisted design system on the operation processes of FMS installed at SNU-ASRI (Seoul National University-Automation and Systems Research Institute).nstitute).
