The objective of this study is to investigate the suitable spatio-temporal analysis method considering the zoning effect of spatial analysis termed the modifiable areal unit problem(MAUP). In former studies of spatio-temporal analysis, there were disagreement between attribute data with spatial data, because of variation of administrative district aggregating attribute data. It is need to consider how the analysis zone effects spatial characteristics and spatio-temporal variation of urban region through land price variation analysis. This study considers MAUP through basic mesh system, which is composed of micro grid. Mesh system can solve disagreement of resolution between spatial data and attribute data.
Characteristics and patterns of geographic features and human activities can be interpreted in terms of spatiality and temporality. The necessity to record the historical changes and the ability to reason in the real world has lead to a new field of research so called Integrated Spatio-Temporal analysis. The objective of this study is to investigate temporal maps for Spatio-temporal analysis, which have the integration functionality for visualizing spatiality and temporality of the geographic appearances and human activities. Land information is composed of spatial, attribute and temporal data and requires spatio-temporal representations. It is possible to visualize spatio-temporal variations with spatio-temporal databases and temporal map produced by integrated data models. This study constructs spatio-temporal model for temporal maps of land price variation analysis. Taking advantage of the spatio-temporal model proposed here, it is possible to visualize spatio-temporal variations with spatio-temporal database and temporal map. On a practical level, this study would be extended and utilized to various geographic features.

Radar rainfall estimates have been widely used in calculating rainfall amount approximately and predicting flood risks. The radar rainfall estimates have a number of error sources such as beam blockage and ground clutter hinder their applications to hydrological flood forecasting. Moreover, it has been reported in paper that those errors are inter-correlated spatially and temporally. Therefore, in the current study, we tested influence about spatio-temporal errors in radar rainfall estimates. Spatio-temporal errors were simulated through a stochastic simulation model, called Multivariate Autoregressive (MAR). For runoff simulation, the Nam River basin in South Korea was used with the distributed rainfall-runoff model, Vflo. The results indicated that spatio-temporal dependent errors caused much higher variations in peak discharge than spatial dependent errors. To further investigate the effect of the magnitude of time correlation among radar errors, different magnitudes of temporal correlations were employed during the rainfall-runoff simulation. The results indicated that strong correlation caused a higher variation in peak discharge. This concluded that the effects on reducing temporal and spatial correlation must be taken in addition to correcting the biases in radar rainfall estimates. Mallipo is a representative beach contaminated by Hebei Spirit oil spill accident in December 2007. This study aims to compare the differences of two seasons (winter and summer) for the spatio-temporal variation patterns of oiling status in the whole area and divided five regions of Mallipo beach. In the whole area, the decreasing rate of average TPH (total petroleum hydrocarbon) in winter was twice greater than summer during four years. According to the spatial variation pattern analysis of oiling status using weighted mean center and weighted standard distance, the oil concentration was clustered on southwestern region in winter, however, the TPH was dispersed in the whole area in summer. Temporal variation pattern of TPH in each of Mallipo's five regions showed that TPH had been consistently decreased in winter, but oil concentration had not been changed in summer since 2009 except the southwestern region. Therefore, in order to evaluate and predict the progress of oiling status, it is needed to analyze the spatio-temporal variation pattern of TPH using spatial analysis after separating data into seasons (e.g., winter and summer). In addition, time series analysis is useful in the regional scales through spatial partitioning rather than the whole beach area for the understanding of temporal variation pattern.
A novel vision-based scheme of extracting real-time traffic information parameters is presented. The method is based on a region classification followed by a spatio-temporal image analysis. The detection region images for each traffic lane are classified into one of the three categories: the road, the vehicle, and the shadow, using statistical and structural features. Misclassification in a frame is corrected by using temporally correlated features of vehicles in the spatio-temporal image. Since only local images of detection regions are processed, the real-time operation of more than 30 frames per second is realized without using dedicated parallel processors, while ensuring detection performance robust to the variation of weather conditions, shadows, and traffic load.

In this study the optimal volume for non-point source control retention is estimated considering spatio-temporal variation of land surface. The 3-parameter mixed exponential probability density function is used to represent the statistical properties of rainfall events, and NRCS-CN method is applied as rainfall-runoff transformation. The catchment drainage area is divided into individual $30m{\times}30m$ cells, and runoff curve number is estimated at each cell. Using the derived probability density function theory, the stormwater probability density function at each cell is derived from the rainfall probability density function and NRCS-CN rainfall-runoff transformation. Considering the antecedent soil moisture condition at each cell and the spatial variation of CN value at the whole catchment drainage area, the ensemble stormwater capture curve is established to estimate the optimal volume for an non-point source control retention. The comparison between spatio-temporally varied land surface and constant land surface is presented as a case study for a urban drainage area.

The spatio-temporal pattern in precipitation is a significant element in defining characteristics of precipitation. In this study, a new scheme on regionalization utilizing temporal information was introduced on the basis of existing approaches that is mainly based on simple moments of data and geographical information. Given the identified spatio-temporal pattern, this study was extended to characterize regional pattern of annual maximum rainfall over Korea. We have used circular statistics to characterize the temporal distribution on the precipitation, and the circular statistics allow us to effectively assess changes in timing of the extreme rainfall in detail. In this study, a modified K-means method was incorporated with derived temporal characteristics of extreme rainfall in order to better characterize hydrologic pattern for regional frequency analysis. The extreme rainfall was reasonably separated into five categories that considered most attributes in both quantitative and temporal changes in extremes. The results showed that the proposed approach is a promising approach for regionalization in term of physical understanding of extreme rainfall.
This study discussed characteristics of Shindu Coastal Dune as habitat, and relationship between geodiversity and biodiversity. It was identified spatio-temporal variation of incoming nutrients depended on geomorphic differences of foredunes. The main incoming path of nutrients into coastal dune was considered as influx with movement of wind blown sands from the beach and tidal f lat. Concentrations of Na, Mg, K, Ca, and P in blown sands were compared. Concentrations of Na, Mg, and K showed high and irregular pattern in favorable condition of influx of blown sand. So these nutrients were related with geomorphic characteristics of foredunes. However, Na was also influenced by other factor such as salt spray. P was independent from effects of sea water and blown sands. In the case of Ca, a large coastal dune system rather than localized forms of foredunes made differences in the variation. Due to differences in spatio-temporal variation of nutrients, patterns of major vegetation could be inferred to appear differently. This study shows geomorphic dynamics of coastal dunes as habitat, and will provide information for coastal dune management and for understanding biological distribution and growth pattern in coastal dune.

The purpose of this study was to examine the regional disparity of ambulatory health care utilization considering spatio-temporal variation in South Korea during 1996-2008(precisely, in 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, and 2008) using bayesian hierarchial spatio-temporal model. The spatial pattern uses an intrinsic gaussian conditional autoregressive (CAR) error component. Ornstein-Uhlenbeck method was applied to detect the temporal patterns. The results showed that substantial temporal-geographical variation depending on diseases exists in Korea. On the Contrary to the pattern of total outpatient utilizations, for example, the areas that chronic diseases distributed relatively high were most in rural where the proportion of elderly population was higher than in the urban. Chungcheongnam-do, Junlabuk-do, and Kyeongsangbuk-do had higher risks in hypertension, whereas arthritis was higher risk in the Kyeonggi-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Junlanam-do, and Junlabuk-do. The results of this study suggested that the effective health intervention programmes needed to alleviate the regional variation of health care utilization. These outcomes also provided the foundation for further investigation of risk factors and interventions in these high-risk areas.

Land price is a kind of text to read urban spatial structure. The purpose of this paper is to inquire into the characteristics of Daegu's urban structure and its change in time through exploring spatio-temporal variations of land price with a detailed spatial and temporal resolution. To achieve this, land value surfaces were represented using the officially assessed land price every other year from 1995 to 2011. Through mapping and exploring spatio-temporal patterns and fluctuation rates of land price for this period, changes in urban structure, the effects of local decision makings such as Greenbelt adjustment, housing site development, and gentrification, and the effects of business fluctuations or policies at global or national scales could be caught. In addition, the trends for suburbanization and multi-centric urban form could be examined from the results of a negative exponential model explaining the effect of distance from an urban center on spatial variation of land price. These results demonstrate that urban analysis using land price mirroring spatial decision making at various scales could deepen understanding for internal structure and change of a city and provide useful information for establishing regional and urban development policies and evaluating their effects.
