In this paper, an adaptive spatio-temporal predictive coding based on the H.264 is proposed for 3D immersive media encoding, such as 3D image processing, 3DTV, and 3D videoconferencing. First, we propose a spatio-temporal predictive coding using the same view and inter-view images for the two TPPP, IBBP GOP (group of picture) structures 4hat are different from the conventional simulcast method. Second, an 2D inter-view direct mode for the efficient prediction is proposed when the proposed spatio-temporal prediction uses the IBBP structure. The 2D inter-view direct mode is applied when the temporal direct mode in B(hi-Predictive) picture of the H.264 refers to an inter-view image, since the current temporal direct mode in the H.264 standard could no: be applied to the inter-view image. The proposed method is compared to the conventional simulcast method in terms of PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) for the various 3D test video sequences. The proposed method shows better PSNR results than the conventional simulcast mode.

One of the most important capabilities for autonomous service robots working in living environments is to recognize and understand the correct context in dynamically changing environment. To generate high-level context knowledge for decision-making from multiple sensory data streams, many technical problems such as multi-modal sensory data fusion, uncertainty handling, symbolic knowledge grounding, time dependency, dynamics, and time-constrained spatio-temporal reasoning should be solved. Considering these problems, this paper proposes an effective dynamic context management and spatio-temporal reasoning method for intelligent service robots. In order to guarantee efficient context management and reasoning, our algorithm was designed to generate low-level context knowledge reactively for every input sensory or perception data, while postponing high-level context knowledge generation until it was demanded by the decision-making module. When high-level context knowledge is demanded, it is derived through backward spatio-temporal reasoning. In experiments with Turtlebot using Kinect visual sensor, the dynamic context management and spatio-temporal reasoning system based on the proposed method showed high performance.
With the growth in the size of datasets, data mining has recently become an important research topic. Especially, interests about spatio-temporal data mining has been increased which is a method for analyzing massive spatio-temporal data collected from a wide variety of applications like GPS data, trajectory data of surveillance system and earth geographic data. In the former approaches, conventional clustering algorithms are applied as spatio-temporal data mining techniques without any modification. In this paper, we focused to SOM that is the most common clustering algorithm applied to clustering analysis in data mining wet and develop the spatio-temporal data mining module based on it. In addition, we analyzed the clustering results of developed SOM module and compare them with those of K-means and Agglomerative Hierarchical algorithm in the aspects of homogeneity, separation, separation, silhouette width and accuracy. We also developed specialized visualization module fur more accurate interpretation of mining result.

Some context is characterized by a single event in computing environment, but many other contexts are determined by a lot of things which occur with a space and a time. The Realtime Sensor Network context-awareness service that interacts with the physical space can have property such as time. A methodology that is specified the relationship between the contexts and the service needs to be developed to Realtime context-awareness deal with spatio-temporal. In this paper, we propose an approach which should include spatio-temporal property in the context model, and verify its effectiveness using enhanced Petri-Net. The context-awareness service modeling of Realtime Sensor Network is discussed the properties of model such as basic Petri-Net, patterned Petri-Net, or Spatio-temporal Petri-Net. The proposed methodology demonstrated using an example that is SAEMANGUEM warming watching system. The use of Spatio-temporal Petri-Net will contribute not only to develop the application but also to model the spatio-temporal context awareness.
Objectives: Despite its advantages, it is not yet common practice in Korea for researchers to investigate disease associations using spatio-temporal analyses. In this study, we aimed to review health-related epidemiological research using spatio-temporal analyses and to observe methodological trends. Methods: Health-related studies that applied spatial or spatio-temporal methods were identified using 2 international databases (PubMed and Embase) and 4 Korean academic databases (KoreaMed, NDSL, DBpia, and RISS). Two reviewers extracted data to review the included studies. A search for relevant keywords yielded 5919 studies. Results: Of the studies that were initially found, 150 were ultimately included based on the eligibility criteria. In terms of the research topic, 5 categories with 11 subcategories were identified: chronic diseases (n=31, 20.7%), infectious diseases (n=27, 18.0%), health-related topics (including service utilization, equity, and behavior) (n=47, 31.3%), mental health (n=15, 10.0%), and cancer (n=7, 4.7%). Compared to the period between 2000 and 2010, more studies published between 2011 and 2020 were found to use 2 or more spatial analysis techniques (35.6% of included studies), and the number of studies on mapping increased 6-fold. Conclusions: Further spatio-temporal analysis-related studies with point data are needed to provide insights and evidence to support policy decision-making for the prevention and control of infectious and chronic diseases using advances in spatial techniques.
For consistent vegetation monitoring, it is necessary to generate time-series vegetation index datasets at fine temporal and spatial scales by fusing the complementary characteristics between temporal and spatial scales of multiple satellite data. In this study, we quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed the prediction accuracy of time-series change information extracted from spatio-temporal fusion models of multiple satellite data for vegetation monitoring. As for the spatio-temporal fusion models, we applied two models that have been widely employed to vegetation monitoring, including a Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (STARFM) and an Enhanced Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (ESTARFM). To quantitatively evaluate the prediction accuracy, we first generated simulated data sets from MODIS data with fine temporal scales and then used them as inputs for the spatio-temporal fusion models. We observed from the comparative experiment that ESTARFM showed better prediction performance than STARFM, but the prediction performance for the two models became degraded as the difference between the prediction date and the simultaneous acquisition date of the input data increased. This result indicates that multiple data acquired close to the prediction date should be used to improve the prediction accuracy. When considering the limited availability of optical images, it is necessary to develop an advanced spatio-temporal model that can reflect the suggestions of this study for vegetation monitoring.

Most of the real world phenomena change over time. The ability to represent and to reason geographic data becomes crucial. A large amount of non-standard applications are dealing with data characterized by spatial, temporal and/or uncertainty features. Non-standard data like spatial and temporal data have an inner complex structure requiring sophisticated data representation, and their operations necessitate sophisticated and efficient algorithms. Current GIS technology is inefficient to model and to handle complex geographic phenomena, which involve space, time and uncertainty dimensions. This paper concentrates on developing a fuzzy spatio-temporal data model based on fuzzy set theory and relational data models. Fuzzy spatio-temporal operators are also provided to support dynamic query.
This paper presents a new approach for detecting abnormal behaviors in complex surveillance scenes where anomalies are subtle and difficult to distinguish due to the intricate correlations among multiple objects' behaviors. Specifically, a cascaded probabilistic topic model was put forward for learning the spatial context of local behavior and the temporal context of global behavior in two different stages. In the first stage of topic modeling, unlike the existing approaches using either optical flows or complete trajectories, spatio-temporal correlations between the trajectory fragments in video clips were modeled by the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic model based on Markov random fields to obtain the spatial context of local behavior in each video clip. The local behavior topic categories were then obtained by exploiting the spectral clustering algorithm. Based on the construction of a dictionary through the process of local behavior topic clustering, the second phase of the LDA topic model learns the correlations of global behaviors and temporal context. In particular, an abnormal behavior recognition method was developed based on the learned spatio-temporal context of behaviors. The specific identification method adopts a top-down strategy and consists of two stages: anomaly recognition of video clip and anomalous behavior recognition within each video clip. Evaluation was performed using the validity of spatio-temporal context learning for local behavior topics and abnormal behavior recognition. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed approach in abnormal behavior recognition improved effectively and significantly in complex surveillance scenes.

Most approaches to human action recognition is limited due to the use of simple action datasets under controlled environments or focus on excessively localized features without sufficiently exploring the spatio-temporal information. This paper proposed a framework for recognizing realistic human actions. Specifically, a new action representation is proposed based on computing a rich set of descriptors from keypoint trajectories. To obtain efficient and compact representations for actions, we develop a feature fusion method to combine spatial-temporal local motion descriptors by the movement of the camera which is detected by the distribution of spatio-temporal interest points in the clips. A new topic model called Markov Semantic Model is proposed for semantic feature selection which relies on the different kinds of dependencies between words produced by "syntactic " and "semantic" constraints. The informative features are selected collaboratively based on the different types of dependencies between words produced by short range and long range constraints. Building on the nonlinear SVMs, we validate this proposed hierarchical framework on several realistic action datasets.
A novel vision-based scheme of extracting real-time traffic information parameters is presented. The method is based on a region classification followed by a spatio-temporal image analysis. The detection region images for each traffic lane are classified into one of the three categories: the road, the vehicle, and the shadow, using statistical and structural features. Misclassification in a frame is corrected by using temporally correlated features of vehicles in the spatio-temporal image. Since only local images of detection regions are processed, the real-time operation of more than 30 frames per second is realized without using dedicated parallel processors, while ensuring detection performance robust to the variation of weather conditions, shadows, and traffic load.
