  • In Geographic Information System, spatial object can be changed in the attribute information, spatial location and the topological relation between them with the change of time. However traditional GIS deletes the old value of aspatial information and replaces them with new value. Therefore. it is difficult to manage thc history of changed spatial object and can not support the spatio-temporal queries including temporal queries. In this paper, we propose a spatio-temporal objected model to solve this problem. We implement the proposed model with spatio-temporal class using Gothic GIS tool. The historical information of an object is stored into the object itself for the effective history management. And, in order to provide the queries for the history of an object and spatio-temporal relationship, we add temporal operators, spatio-temporal operators, and spatio-temporal query operations into Gothic, and improve the facility of the Gothic.

  • A spatio-temporal join is an expensive operation that is commonly used in spatio-temporal database systems. In order to generate an efficient query plan for the queries involving spatio-temporal join operations, it is crucial to estimate accurate selectivity for the join operations. Given two dataset $S_1,\;S_2$ of discrete data and a timestamp $t_q$, a spatio-temporal join retrieves all pairs of objects that are intersected each other at $t_q$. The selectivity of the join operation equals the number of retrieved pairs divided by the cardinality of the Cartesian product $S_1{\times}S_2$. In this paper, we propose aspatio-temporal histogram to estimate selectivity of spatio-temporal join by extending existing geometric histogram. By using a wide spectrum of both uniform dataset and skewed dataset, it is shown that our proposed method, called Spatio-Temporal Histogram, can accurately estimate the selectivity of spatio-temporal join. Our contributions can be summarized as follows: First, the selectivity estimation of spatio-temporal join for discrete data has been first attempted. Second, we propose an efficient maintenance method that reconstructs histograms using compression of spatial statistical information during the lifespan of discrete data.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the applicability of representative spatio-temporal fusion models developed for the fusion of mid- and low-resolution satellite images in order to construct a set of time-series high-resolution images for crop monitoring. Particularly, the effects of the characteristics of input image pairs on the prediction performance are investigated by considering the principle of spatio-temporal fusion. An experiment on the fusion of multi-temporal Sentinel-2 and RapidEye images in agricultural fields was conducted to evaluate the prediction performance. Three representative fusion models, including Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (STARFM), SParse-representation-based SpatioTemporal reflectance Fusion Model (SPSTFM), and Flexible Spatiotemporal DAta Fusion (FSDAF), were applied to this comparative experiment. The three spatio-temporal fusion models exhibited different prediction performance in terms of prediction errors and spatial similarity. However, regardless of the model types, the correlation between coarse resolution images acquired on the pair dates and the prediction date was more significant than the difference between the pair dates and the prediction date to improve the prediction performance. In addition, using vegetation index as input for spatio-temporal fusion showed better prediction performance by alleviating error propagation problems, compared with using fused reflectance values in the calculation of vegetation index. These experimental results can be used as basic information for both the selection of optimal image pairs and input types, and the development of an advanced model in spatio-temporal fusion for crop monitoring.

  • Farmland transaction prices are affected by various factors such as politics, society, and the economy. The purpose of this study is to identify multiple factors that affect the farmland transaction price due to changes in the actual transaction price of farmland by farmland unit from 2016 to 2020. There are several previous studies analyzed the determinants of farmland transaction prices by considering spatial dependency. However, in the case of land transactions where the time and space of the transaction affect simultaneously, if only spatial dependence is considered, there is a limitation in that it cannot reflect spatial dependence that occurs over time. In order to solve these limitations, To address these limitations, this study builds a spatio-temporal autoregressive model that simultaneously considers spatial and temporal dependencies using farmland transactions in Jinju City as an example. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that there was significant spatio-temporal dependence in farmland transactions within the previous 30 days. This means that if the previous farmland transaction was carried out at a high price, it has a spatio-temporal spillover effect that indirectly affects the increase in the price of other nearby farmland transactions. The study also found that various location attributes and socioeconomic attributes have a significant impact on farmland transaction prices. The spatio-temporal autoregressive model of farmland prices constructed in this study can be used to improve the prediction accuracy of farmland prices in the farmland transaction market in the future, and it is expected to be useful in drawing policy implications for stabilizing farmland prices

  • There are no immutable phenomena in reality. A lot of applications are dealing with data characterized by spatial and temporal and/or uncertain features. Currently, there has no any data model accommodating enough those three elements of spatial objects to directly use in application systems. For such reasons, we introduce a fuzzy spatio -temporal data model (FSTDM) and a method of integrating temporal and fuzzy spatial operators in a unified manner to create fuzzy spatio -temporal (FST) operators. With these operators, complex query expression will become concise. Our research is feasible to apply to the management systems and query processor of natural resource data, weather information, graphic information, and so on.

  • According to the recent development of the ubiquitous computing environment, the use of spatio-temporal data from sensors with GPS is increasing, and studies on the Semantic Sensor Web using spatio-temporal data for providing different kinds of services are being actively conducted. Especially, the W3C developed the SSNO(Semantic Sensor Network Ontology) which uses sensor-related standards such as the SWE(Sensor Web Enablement) of OGC and defines classes and properties for expressing sensor data. Since these studies are available for the query processing about non-spatio-temporal sensor data, it is hard to apply them to spatio-temporal sensor data processing which uses spatio-temporal data types and operators. Therefore, in this paper, we developed the SWE based on SSNO which supports the spatio-temporal sensor data types and operators expanding spatial data types and operators in "OpenGIS Simple Feature Specification for SQL" by OGC. The system receives SensorML(Sensor Model Language) and O&M (Observations and Measurements) Schema and converts the data into SSNO. It also performs the efficient query processing which supports spatio-temporal operators and reasoning rules. In addition, we have proved that this system can be utilized for the web service by applying it to a virtual scenario.

  • With the recent the use of spatio-temporal data mining which can extract various knowledge such as movement patterns of moving objects in history data of moving object gets increasing. However, the existing movement pattern extraction methods create lots of candidate movement patterns when the minimum support is low. Therefore, in this paper, we suggest the STMPE(Spatio-Temporal Movement Pattern Extraction) algorithm in order to efficiently extract movement patterns of moving objects from the large capacity of spatio-temporal data. The STMPE algorithm generalizes spatio-temporal and minimizes the use of memory. Because it produces and keeps short-term movement patterns, the frequency of database scan can be minimized. The STMPE algorithm shows more excellent performance than other movement pattern extraction algorithms with time information when the minimum support decreases, the number of moving objects increases, and the number of time division increases.

  • Domestic 2D maps includes only most up-to-date information at the time of production without historical information. Therefore, it is hard to identify the change history of real world objects. In this research, Spatio-temporal model for 2D map were developed and it's compatibility was verified through the pilot project conducted on the Gwanggyo area of Gyeonggi province. Also, the procedure to generate 2D spatio-temporal database using maps made periodically on the same target area was introduced for showing the possibility of realizing nation wide spatio-temporal 2D map using the national base map updated periodically.

  • Video fingerprints generated from global features are usually vulnerable against general geometric transformations. In this paper, a novel video fingerprinting algorithm is proposed, in which a new spatio-temporal gradient is designed to represent the spatial and temporal information for each frame, and a new partition scheme, based on concentric circle and rings, is developed to resist the attacks efficiently. The centroids of spatio-temporal gradient orientations (CSTGO) within the circle and rings are then calculated to generate a robust fingerprint. Our experiments with different attacks have demonstrated that the proposed approach outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of robustness and discrimination.
