This paper discusses the state-of-the-art techniques in real-time state estimation for the Smart Microgrids. The most popular method used in traditional power system state estimation is a Weighted Least Square(WLS) algorithm which is based on Maximum Likelihood(ML) estimation under the assumption of static system state being a set of deterministic variables. In this paper, we present a survey of dynamic state estimation techniques for Smart Microgrids based on Belief Propagation (BP) when the system state is a set of stochastic variables. The measurements are often too sparse to fulfill the system observability in the distribution network of microgrids. The BP algorithm calculates posterior distributions of the state variables for real-time sparse measurements. Smart Microgrids are modeled as a factor graph suitable for characterizing the linear correlations among the state variables. The state estimator performs the BP algorithm on the factor graph based the stochastic model. The factor graph model can integrate new models for solar and wind correlation. It provides the Smart Microgrids with a way of integrating the distributed renewable energy generation. Our study on Smart Microgrid state estimation can be extended to the estimation of unbalanced three phase distribution systems as well as the optimal placement of smart meters.

Due to the rapid development of IT (information technology) and internet, products become smart and able to collect, process and produce information and can think of themselves to provide better service to consumers. However, research on the characteristics of smart product is still sparse. In this paper, we report the systemic development of a scale to measure the perceived product smartness associated with smart product. To develop product smartness scale, this study follows systemic scale development processes of item generation, item reduction, scale validation, reliability and validity test consequently. And, after acquiring a large amount of qualitative interview data asking the definition of smart product, we add a unique process to reduce the initial items using both a text mining method using 'r' s/w and traditional reliability and validity tests including factor analysis. Based on an initial qualitative inquiry and subsequent quantitative survey, an eight-factor scale of product smartness is developed. The eight factors are multi-functionality, human-like touch, ability to cooperate, autonomy, situatedness, network connectivity, integrity, and learning capability consequently. Results from Korean samples support the proposed measures of product smartness in terms of reliability, validity, and dimensionality. Implications and directions for further study are discussed. The developed scale offers important theoretical and pragmatic implications for researchers and practitioners.

This paper proposes dual symbol superposition block carrier transmission with frequency domain equalization (DSS-FDE) system. This system is based upon χ-transform matrix, which is obtained by concatenation of discrete Hartley transform (DHT) matrix and discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrices into single matrix that is remarkably sparse, so that, as it will be shown in this paper, it only has non-zero entries on its principal diagonal and one below the principle anti-diagonal, giving it shape of Latin alphabet χ. When multiplied with constellation mapped complex transmit vector, each entry of resultant vector is weighted superposition of only two entries of original vector, as opposed to all entries in conventional DFT based OFDM. Such a transmitter is close to single carrier block transmission with frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE), which is known to have no superposition. The DSS-FDE offers remarkable simplicity in transmitter design and yields great benefits in reduced complexity and low PAPR. At receiver-end, it offers the ability to harvest full diversity from multipath fading channel, full coding gain, with significant bit error rate (BER) improvement. These results will be demonstrated using both analytical expressions, as well as simulation results. As will be seen, this paper is Part III of three-paper series on alternative transforms for multicarrier communication (MC) systems.
A free sparse transmission method using X-band standard gain horn antenna is applied to measure the attenuation and phase shift of microwave signal through the wetted grain such as rough rice, brown rice and barley. The moisture content of grain varied from 11 to 25% based on its wetted condition. The dielectric constant and loss factor, which depend on the moisture content of the wetted grain are obtained from the measured attenuation and phase shift by vector network analyzer. The measured values of dielectric constants as a function of moisture density are compared with values of those obtained using the predicted model for estimating dielectric constants of grain.
The large potential bandwidth available in wavelength-division multiplexed optical networks makes this technology of crucial importance for satisfying the ever increasing capacity requirements of the next-generation Internet. In this scenario, the routing and wavelength assignment(RWA) problem that concerns determining the optical paths and wavelengths to be used for connection establishment in a wavelength-routed network, is still one of the most important open issues. In this paper we propose a new online dynamic grooming-capable RWA heuristic scheme working on wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) networks as a multistage selection process. The proposed algorithm is transparent with respect to the presence of wavelength converters, achieves very low connection rejection ratios with minimal computational complexity and is appropriate for the modern multilayer optical circuit and wavelength switched networks with sparse wavelength conversion capability.
