시공 계획을 고려한 플랫 플레이트 최소 두께 (Minimum Thickness Requirements of Flat Plate Considering Construction Scheme)

  • It is common in multistory flat-plate structures that newly cast slabs are supported by a number of previously cast floors. Then the weight of newly cast slabs is imposed on shored previously cast floors as load, and this load may be large as double as dead load. Because early-age construction loads cause large immediate deflection and creep deflection with cracks, this loads influence long-term behavior of slabs. In current provision, the minimum thickness is required to satisfy serviceability But this minimum thickness based on historical precedent is determined by span length, therefore the minimum thickness of current provision can not includes properly the effect of construction scheme including the number of shored floors and construction cycle. In the present study, a minimum thickness criterion, which includes the effect of concrete strength, geometry of slabs and construction scheme, was developed from computer-based iteration using deflection calculation procedure of current code method.

  • The bonding strength of the interface between the actual bridge concrete deck and overlay was primarily affected by the shear that depended on the flexural behavior than pure tensile, but the field bonding test measured bonding strength by the pure tensile due to simplicity and field applicability. Therefore, the purpose this study was to evaluate the required direct bond strength for bridge deck overlay using Finite element analysis with the many variavles such as bridge deck types, span length, material properties, lanes, and loading types. The commercial program LUSAS was used in analysis. The analysis results were compared to the value of specification currently used in highway construction site.

  • This study explores the free, out-of-plane vibrations of horizontally circular curved beams. The differential equations governing the free vibration of such beams, including the effects of warping and rotatory inertia, are derived and solved numerically. The Runge-Kutta method and the Determinant Search method combined with Regula-Falsi method are used to integrate the differential equations and to obtain the natural frequencies, respectively. The lowest three natural frequencies are calculated over a wide range of non-dimensional system parameters: the horizontal rise to span length ratio, the slenderness ratio, the stiffness parameter, and the warping parameter. It is expected that the results obtained herein can be used practically for the design of curved member systems.

Preliminary optimal configuration on free standing hybrid riser

  • Free Standing Hybrid Riser (FSHR) is comprised of vertical steel risers and Flexible Jumpers (FJ). They are jointly connected to a submerged Buoyancy Can (BC). There are several factors that have influence on the behavior of FSHR such as the span distance between an offshore platform and a foundation, BC up-lift force, BC submerged location and FJ length. An optimization method through a parametric study is presented. Firstly, descriptions for the overall arrangement and characteristics of FSHR are introduced. Secondly, a flowchart for optimization of FSHR is suggested. Following that, it is described how to select reasonable ranges for a parametric study and determine each of optimal configuration options. Lastly, numerical analysis based on this procedure is performed through a case study. In conclusion, the relation among those parameters is analyzed and non-dimensional parametric ranges on optimal arrangements are suggested. Additionally, strength analysis is performed with variation in the configuration.

  • CWR(Continuous Welded Rail) and bridge interaction produce rail force, bridge displacement and rail/bridge relative displacement. Each of these has limitation by many codes. In this paper, analysis of interaction has been carried out by using foreign codes(UIC 774-3 R code of Europe etc.) because there is no code about interaction between rail and bridge in Korea. Recently, railway bridges with CWR has been constructed for structural and economical reasons. When designer plans railway bridges, design a bridge model first and then investigate railway forces and displacement by interaction analysis. If these results go out bounds from limitation, designer plans railway bridges again and again. In this paper, using the parametric study on CWR and railway bridge interaction, railway bridge parameters such as length of bridge span, area of bridge, moment of inertia, stiffness of pier, etc. are presented. It helps preliminary design of railway bridges.

  • Generally, the contribution of curbs and median strip is not considered carefully in analysing and designing the girder bridges. There being curbs, the load given on interior girder relatively reduced and on exterior girder increased. Curbs and median strip reduce the load distribution factor by distributing the load given on girder fairly, In this paper, the Influence of curbs and median strip in wheel distribution through parameter study and lateral distribution test of PSC girder bridge was investigated. Finite-element analysis was performed with parameterizing the flexural rigidity of the girder, span length, girder spacing, median strip, curbs. The influence of curbs and median strip would increase with lowering rigidity of girder. In addition, curbs lower the load distribution factor of exterior and interior girders.

  • The existing AASHTO Standard Specification have some inadequacies in expressing wheel load distribution of bridge which has specific shape of curved bridge instead of straight bridge. Thus, this research presented the finite element analysis and modelling technique of prestressed concrete girder bridge having curved slab and the expression of wheel load distribution was suggested as the ratio of bending moment utilizing the result of finite element analysis of prestressed concrete girder bridge having cowed slab. The considered parameter of girder distribution expression is the curvature of slab, span length, girder space, cross beam space and number of lanes. Though the suggested girder distribution expression is generally underestimated below AASHTO Standard Specification, once the curvature of slab increases, the suggested expression gets larger than AASHTO LRFD Standard Specification.

Optimal Position of Optical Phase Conjugator for Compensation of Distorted WDM Signals with Initial Frequency Chirp

  • In this paper, the optimal position of optical phase conjugator(OPC) excellently compensating distorted WDM channels with initial frequency chirp due to both chromatic dispersion and self phase modulation(SPM) is numerically investigated. Highly-nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber(HNL-DSF) is used as a nonlinear medium of OPC in order to widely compensate WDM signal band. It is confirmed that if the OPC position was shifted from mid-way of total transmission length dependence on the initial frequency chirp as well as modulation format and fiber dispersion coefficient, it is possible to cancel the performance degradation owing to the initial frequency chirp. Using proposed configuration, it is possible to remove all in-line dispersion compensator, reducing span losses and system costs in the long-haul broadband WDM systems.

  • It is well known that pipelines have the highest capacity and are the safest and least environmentally disruptive form of transporting oil and gas. However, pipeline damages caused by both internal and external corrosion is a major concern threatening the reliability of oil and gas transportation and the soundness of pipeline structure. In this study, we estimated the expected allowable damage defect by comparing the ASTM B31G code which has been developed as the evaluation method of reliability and incident prevention of damaged pipelines based on the amount of loss due to corrosion and the yield strength of materials to a modified theory considering diverse detailed corrosional forms. Furthermore, we suggested the method that estimates the expected life span of used pipelines by utilizing the reliability method based on major variables such as, the depth and length of damage and corrosional rate affecting the life expectancy of pipelines.

  • The differential equations governing free, in-plane vibrations of non-circular arches with the translational (radial and tangential directions) and rotational springs at the ends, including the effects of rotatory inertia, shear deformation and axial deformation, are solved numerically using the corresponding boundary conditions. The lowest four natural frequencies for the parabolic geometry are calculated over a range of non-dimensional system parameters: the arch rise to span length ratio, the slenderness ratio, and the translational and rotational spring parameters.
