A reaction mixture was developed for formation of soft organic monolith that was easily smashed, rinsed, refluxed, filtered, and dried to give monolith particles having high pore volume of macropores. This phase was almost without mesopores. The reaction mixture was composed of methacrylic acid, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, polyethylene glycol (porogen), and an initiator in a mixed solvent of toluene and isooctane. The selection of porogen and its amount was carefully carried out to obtain the optimized separation efficiency of the resultant phase. The median macropore size was 1.6 ${\mu}m$, and the total pore volume was 3.0-3.4 mL/g. The median particle size (volume based) was 15 ${\mu}m$, and the range of particle size distribution was very broad. Nevertheless the column (1 ${\times}$ 300 mm) packed with this phase showed good separation efficiency (N~10,000-16,000) comparable to that of a commercial column packed with 5 ${\mu}m$ C18 silica particles.
The demand for an ice class ship is rising expected to rise according to the increase of energy consumption and the opening of arctic sea routes. Ice class ship should be designed to cope with the severe environmental conditions of arctic sea such as a high mechanical impact and abrasion damage, caused by pack ice, ice bergs and low temperature. The ice class ship hulls are coated with an anti-abrasion and low friction coating such as a solvent free epoxy or high solid-volume epoxy. These coatings require two-component heating pump and a high grade surface preparation. In this study, the coating performances for the arctic vessels, such as puncture absorbed energy, abrasive wear loss, friction coefficients and impact absorbed energy were evaluated. Based on this study, a proper coating performance specification for the arctic vessels was proposed and coating selection guideline in terms of coating performance and workability was also established.

The document is a white paper on Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography (HILIC) analysis method development. HILIC is a type of chromatography that uses an organic/aqueous mobile phase and a polar stationary phase. In HILIC, water is a strong solvent, and unlike in Reversed Phase Liquid Chromatography (RPLC), increasing the proportion of water in the mobile phase reduces the retention time of the analyte. The paper discusses when to consider HILIC analysis methods, the advantages of HILIC, and the challenges often encountered due to the lack of understanding of HILIC mechanisms compared to RPLC. It also provides a systematic flowchart for intelligent solutions for HILIC analysis method development, which includes a three-step approach for chromatography analysis method development. The first step involves gathering as much information as possible about the analyte (e.g., pKa, log P, log D). The second step involves analyzing the sample under different pH conditions using three HILIC columns in either isocratic or gradient mode to identify the suitable column/pH combination for the analyte. The third step involves optimizing the separation by investigating other parameters such as temperature and ionic strength, and assessing the robustness of the method. The paper emphasizes that the selection of the appropriate stationary/mobile phase combination, based on the differences between the HILIC stationary phases and the mobile phase pH, can provide high selectivity in the analysis. This step-by-step approach can help users develop an efficient analysis method.
본 연구에서는 물속 As(III)와 As(V)의 종 규명분석에 필요한 HPLC와 DRC-ICP-MS의 최적조건을 설정하고, 이를 이용하여 한강 팔당수계 10개 지류 천으로부터 채취한 시료중의 As(III)와 As(V)를 분석 검토하였다. 검정곡선은 As(III)와 As(V)에 대해 모두 r$^2$ = 0.998 이상의 선형성을 나타냈으며, As(III)의 검출한계는 0.10 $\mu$g/L, 정확도(RSD)는 4.3%, 회수율은 95.2%, As(V)의 검출한계는 0.08 $\mu$g/L, 정확도(RSD)는 3.6%, 회수율은 96.4%로 나타났다. 설정된 파라미터를 적용하여 한강 팔당수계 유입 10개 지류 천에서 채수한 시료를 분석한 결과, As(III)는 0.10$\sim$0.22 $\mu$g/L, As(V)는 0.44$\sim$1.19 $\mu$g/L의 범위로 나타났으며, 총 비소의 93.5%가 As(V)의 형태인 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
A sensitive method to detect trace anions in hydrofluoric acid (HF) by solid-phase extraction (SPE) clean-up and ion chromatography (IC) was described. Fluoride in HF solution was eliminated with solid-phase extraction, and residual fluoride, acetate, chloride, bromide, nitrate, phosphate and sulfate were consecutively separated with IC. The SPE parameters (selection of adsorbent, sample volume and pH, elution solvent and its volume) were optimized and selected. The removal effect of fluoride in HF solution was the best on Oasis WAX column, and the optimum conditions (1.0 mL of 25 % HF solution and 50 mM ammonium acetate 5 mL as elution solvent) were established by the variation of parameters. Under the established condition, the method detection limits of chloride, bromide, nitrate, phosphate, and sulfate were 0.04~0.30 µg/L in 25 % HF solutions (w/w) and the relative standard deviation was less than 5 % at concentrations of 20.0 and 40.0 µg/L. The concentrations of anions in a 25 % HF had detectable levels of 4.2 to 47.5 µg/L. The method was sensitive, reproducible and simple enough to permit the reliable routine analysis of anions in HF solution used in the process of producing semiconductors.
Pyrolysis oil (PO), derived from biomass through fast pyrolysis process have the potential to displace significant amounts of petroleum fuels. The PO derived from wood has been regarded as an alternative fuel to be used in diesel engines. However, the use of PO in a diesel engine is very limited due to its poor properties like low energy density, low cetane number, high acidity and high viscosity of PO. Therefore, one of the easiest way to adopt PO to diesel engine without modifications is blended with other fuels that have high centane number. However, PO that has high amount of polar chemicals is immiscible with non polar hydrocarbons of diesel or biodiesel. Thus, to stabilize a homogeneous phase of diesel/biodiesel-PO blends, a proper surfactant should be used. Nevertheless, PO which was produced from different biomass type have varied characteristics and this complicates the selection of a suitable additive for a specific PO-diesel emulsion. In this regard, a more simple approach such as the use of a co-solvent like ethanol or butanol to induce a more stable phase of the PO-diesel mixture could be a promising alternative. In this study, a diesel engine operated with diesel/biodiesel-PO-butanol blends was experimentally investigated. Performance and gaseous & particle emission characteristics of a diesel engine were examined under the engine loads of IMEP 0.2 ~ 0.8MPa.
