Convective heat transfer in a channel filled with porous media has been analyzed in this paper. The two-equation model is applied for the heat transfer analysis with the velocity profile, considering both the inertia and viscous effects. Based on a theoretical solution, the effect of the velocity profile on the convective heat transfer is investigated in detail. The Nusselt number is obtained in terms of the relevant physical parameters, such as the Biot number for the internal heat exchange, the ratio of effective conductivities between the fluid and solid phases, and hydraulic boundary layer thickness. The results indicate that the influence of the velocity profile is characterized within two regimes according to the two parameters, the Biot number and the conductivity ratio between the phases. The decrease in the heat transfer due to the hydraulic boundary layer thickness is 15% at most within a practical range of the pertinent parameters.
When No. 42 strain of Pleurotus ostreatus was cultivated at five different media, MnP and Lac but no LiP activity was detected throughout the culture period in the media. The production of MnP and Lac by No. 42 strain of Pleurotus ostreatus were correlated with wheat bran composition in the medium. In the liquid culture, maximum production of MnP and Lac were observed in the medium contained glucose-peptone- yeast-wheat bran(GPYW). However, in solid medium, maximum production of MnP was observed in wood meal-wheat bran(WMW) medium, but that of Lac was observed in wheat bran(W) medium.

To simulate solid dynamics,a we must com-pute the mass, the center of mass, and the products of inertia about the axes of the body of interest. These mass property computations must be continuously re-peated for certain simulations with rigid bodies or as the shape of the body changes. We introduce a GPU-friendly algorithm to approximate the mass properties for an arbitrarily shaped body. Our algorithm converts the necessary volume integrals into surface integrals on a projected plane. It then maps the plane into a frame-buffer in order to perform the surface integrals rapidly on the GPU. To deal with non-convex shapes, we use a depth-peeling algorithm. Our approach is image-based; hence, it is not restricted by the mathematical or geometric representation of the body, which means that it can efficiently compute the mass properties of any object that can be rendered on the graphics hardware. We compare the speed and accuracy of our algorithm with an analytic algorithm, and demonstrate it in a hydrostatic buoyancy simulation for real-time applications, such as interactive games.
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of celebrity and celebrity fashion on contemporary fashion. As study methods, the literature study using books and theses concerning fashion, culture, and history were used for theoretical background and visual data from magazine, news paper, and internet were used for actual study. The results of this study are as follows. First, the celebrity is the figure who shows their attractive appearance and status using major cultural contents on the basis of the various media and visual culture, and has secured a solid foothold as the source of fashion and an indispensable factor of fashion industry. Second, the celebrity fashion, a creature of mass media, set a powerful fashion trend along with the media, and increasingly plays mayor roles in the society and culture. Third, the combination of celebrity and fashion has come into the brightest spotlight as the serious business of today, and bring about a tremendous industrial ripple effect extensively.
Discussions and debates over media education abound in Korra as the number of both institutions that provide media related education and students enrollment for these programs increases rapidly in recent years. In spite of this rather impressive expansion, however, many have raised serious questions about media education of Korea for its not being able to meet the need of the Industry and students, and, moreover, inability to face the challenges brought by new communication related technologies. Who teaches What for what purposes are some of the fundamental questions underlying these heated debates and discussions. To understand these rather complex and interrelated issues more clearly, it is attempted to delineate the nature of these debates by exploring the evolutionary process of media education. The issues related to debates over purposes of media education, curriculum, and faculty qualification have changed through the history of media education, but the nature of the debates, that is the struggle between professionalism and academism, or the tension between practice and theory, has not. Upon this understanding, some argue that what distinguishes opposing sets of dichotomies, such as skills vs. knowledge, training vs. education, now-how vs. know-why. professional vs. academic, practice vs. theory, is more a reflection of social class division and group interests which have privileged theory over practice than a rational scholastic distinction. In addition, it has been often pointed out that the media studies have failed to establish ties with specific industries, and furthermore academic studies seriously lack solid theoretical and practical bases. In the case of the United States, leaders of the industry had contributed much for the Initiation of journalism education in a college setting. However, once inaugurated,, the process of its evolution has depended heavily on academicians. In a country like Korea, where academic and theoretical orientation is much stronger, these problems of media studies and education are even more acute. In this study, it is suggested that academicians and educators be more open-hearted to the realities of changing world, practices of the industries, and recruitment of professionals and practitioners to fill the gap between practice and theory, for the sake of the future of media studies and education.
Fine suspended solids generated effluence from treatment process of mine drainage could destroy environment as the aesthetic landscapes, and depreciate water quality. Therefore, the purpose of this research is focused on process development applied the actual field for controlling fine suspended solids and heavy metals, and so lab-scale test was performed for inducement of basic data. The mine drainage used in this research was sampled in H mine located Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do. Concentration of suspended solid, arsenic, iron and manganese was exceeded the standard of contaminant limitation for the clean water, and particle size of suspended solid was less than 10 m as fine particle. Although hydraulic retention time of mine drainage for effective settling was required more than 6 hours, hydraulic retention time would be increased in winter season when the settling efficiency could be reduced because of viscosity decreasing. Moreover, installed inclination plate helped to increase settling efficiency of suspended solid about 48 %. Filtering media that was the most effective removal of suspended solids and heavy metal was decided granular activated carbon of 1~2 mm was the optimal size.
Cell culture methods have been used to assess the cytotoxicity of dental materials. Different paramaters are used to monitor cytotoxic effects. But it is difficult to compare each investigator's results with different methods. The objective of this study was to investigate cytotoxic effect of several retrograde filling materials according to cell lines and assay methods. Cytotoxicity of Bestalloy (Dogmyung, Korea), Prisma APH(Densply International Inc., U.S.A.), Clearfil FII (Kuraray Co., Japan), Fuji II (GC Co., Japan), Fuji II LC (GC Co., Japan) and IRM (Densply Co., U.S.A.) on L929, 3T3 and KB permanent cell lines was measured. Radiochromium, Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release method and colorimetric assays, namely neutral red (NR) and MTT were used. Each material was mixed according to the manufacturer's instruction. They were tested as solid and extracted state. Cell culture media were added to each mixed or solid materials then the solution was collected and used as extract solutions. Solid Fuji II showed mild cytotoxicity on three cell lines using radiochromium release method. There was no difference in cytotoxicity of extract solution group using radiochromium release method. In colorimetric assay immediate Fuji II group and all the IRM groups showed severe cytotoxic effect. Difference in cyctotoxicity was due to rather kinds of cell lines than assay methods. Solid Fuji II and IRM showed mild cytotoxicity on three cell lines. But extract solutions had different cytotoxic effect according to cell lines using LDH release assay. Light-cured glass ionomer had mild to moderate degree of cytotoxicity on three cell lines. Cytotoxicity was affected by specimen prepaton. Susceptibility of each cell ines were also affected by assay emthods. It was suggested that cytotoxicity study using only one cell line and/or assay method might not accurately reflect the real toxic nature of dental biomaterials.
The chlorine component in fly ash from municipal solid waste incineration ash was removed by water washing for the purpose of recycling fly ash as a raw material of ordinary portland cement. The samples were a different kind of 리y ashes using $Ca(OH)_2$and NaOH as media of wet scrubber for flue gas cleaning. The content of soluble salts of fly ash using $Ca(OH)_2$and NaOH was 32.8%, 50.1% and the content of chlorine component, 22.9% and 26.0% respectively, which was KCl, NaCl, CaC1OH mainly. When each fly ash was washed using water under conditions of a agitation speed of 300 rpm, a liquid to solid ratio of 10, most soluble salts in fly ash were dissolved within 30 minutes and the content of chlorine component in ash was diminished to the content of 4.4%, 2.O% at $20^{\circ}C$ and 1.7%, 0.8% at $50^{\circ}C$ respectively. And the main compound of residual chlorine component in ash after water washing was friedel`s salt ($3CaO.A1_2$$O_3$.$CaCl_2$.$10H2$O). From analysis results of water quality for wastewater by water washing, the components exceeding discharged wastewater standard were only Pb and Cd. But As pH was controlled to 10 with addition of $CO_2$(g) or $Na_2$$_CO3$in water, the concentration of heavy metals such as Pb and Cd was also under discharged wastewater standard.

Background: The objective of this study was to make colloidal dispersions of the active compounds of radix of Angelica gigas Nakai that could be charaterized as nano-composites using hot melt extrusion (HME). Food grade hydrophilic polymer matrices were used to disperse these compound in aqueous media. Methods and Results: Extrudate solid formulations (ESFs) mediated by various HPMCs (hydroxypropyl methylcelluloses) and Na-Alg polymers made from ultrafine powder of the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai were developed through a physical crosslink method (HME) using an ionization agent (treatment with acetic acid) and different food grade polymers [HPMCs, such as HP55, CN40H, AN6 and sodium alignate (Na-Alg)]. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the amorphization of crystal compounds in the HP55-mediated extrudate solid formulation (HP55-ESF). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis indicated a lower enthalpy (${\Delta}H=10.62J/g$) of glass transition temperature (Tg) in the HP55-ESF than in the other formulations. Infrared fourier transform spectroscopy (FT-IR) revealed that new functional groups were produced in the HP55-ESF. The content of phenolic compounds, flavonoid (including decursin and decursinol angelate) content, and antioxidant activity increased by 5, 10, and 2 times in the HP55-ESF, respectively. The production of water soluble (61.5%) nano-sized (323 nm) particles was achieved in the HP55-ESF. Conclusions: Nano-composites were developed herein utilizing melt-extruded solid dispersion technology, including food grade polymer enhanced nano dispersion (< 500 nm) of active compounds from the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai with enhanced solubility and bioavailability. These nano-composites of the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai can be developed and marketed as products with high therapeutic performance.

Recently, the Q biotype of tobacco whitefly has been recognized as the most hazardous strain of Bemisia tabaci worldwide, because of its increased resistance to some insecticide groups. As an alternative control agent, we selected an Isaria javanica isolate as a candidate for the development of a mycopesticide against the Q biotype of sweet potato whitefly. To select optimal mass production media for solid-state fermentation, we compared the production yield and virulence of conidia between 2 substrates (barley and brown rice), and we also compared the effects of various additives on conidia production and virulence. Barley was a better substrate for conidia production, producing $3.43{\times}10^{10}$ conidia/g, compared with $3.05{\times}10^{10}$ conidia/g for brown rice. The addition of 2% $CaCO_3+2%$$CaSO_4$ to barley significantly increased conidia production. Addition of yeast extract, casein, or gluten also improved conidia production on barley. Gluten addition (3% and 1.32%) to brown rice improved conidia production by 14 and 6 times, respectively, relative to brown rice without additives. Conidia cultivated on barley produced a mortality rate of 62% in the sweet potato whitefly after 4-day treatment, compared with 53% for conidia cultivated on brown rice. The amendment of solid substrate cultivation with additives changed the virulence of the conidia produced; the median lethal time ($LT_{50}$) was shorter for conidia produced on barley and brown rice with added yeast extract (1.32% and 3%, respectively), $KNO_3$ (0.6% and 1%), or gluten (1.32% and 3%) compared with conidia produced on substrates without additives.
