  • This study will attempt to analyze media art and discuss its main characteristics by using the concept based on Relational Aesthetics 'Affective Turn' as a basis of the theory. In addition, this study has some theoretical and practical implications, both in terms of the research and analysis of artworks and the structure development of art theories and aesthetics. To conduct the research, I have gone through a literature review on previous studies related to media art and Relational Aesthetics. Then, I have conducted a case study on the media art of TeamLab. This study shows that from the perspective of Relational Aesthetics, media art shows unique characteristics such as borderless and shareability. Moreover, it can allow the audience to actually 'feel' the relationship and integration between various objects. I hopethat this research could be used as a solid basis for future research and helpstrengthen the interaction between modern art and the public.

  • Scratches are observed on a polymer cover-layer of near-field recording (NFR) media after a servo test with rotating disc. The scratches are formed by the collision of a solid immersion lens (SIL)-media. One of the possible ways to avoid the scratch problem is to coat a dielectric protective film on the polymer cover-layer which enhances the hardness of the surface. The surface with hard characteristics in the surface reduces the scratch problem in the cover-layer. Not only the mechanical properties but also the optical properties should be controlled. Specifically, the refractive index of the dielectric protective film should be matched with the polymer cover-layer not to lose light at the interface due to the difference of the refractive index. The refractive index of the dielectric film can be tailored by controlling process parameters during sputtering and matched with that of the polymer cover-layer.

  • This paper presents the methodology for thermal hydraulic analysis of Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) steam generators. Topics include porous media approach, governing equations, physical models and correlations for solid-to-fluid interaction and heat transfer and numerical solution scheme. Some details about the ATHOS3 code currently used widely for thermal hydraulic analysis of PWR steam generators in the industry are presented. The ATHOS3 code is applied to the thermal hydraulic analysis of steam generator in the Korea YGN 3&4 nuclear power plant and the computed results are presented.

  • A great deal of attention is focused on coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical (THM) behavior of multiphase porous media in diverse geo-mechanical and geo-environmental areas. This paper presents general governing equations for coupled THM processes in unsaturated porous media. Coupled partial differential equations are derived from 3 mass balances equations (solid, water, and air), energy balance equation, and force equilibrium equation. Finite element code is developed from the Galerkin formulation and time integration of these governing equations for 4 main variables (displacement $\underline{u}$, gas pressure $P_g$, liquid pressure $P_l$), and temperature T). The code is validated with theoretical solutions for linear material with simple boundary conditions.

  • This study was designed to observe the effect of temperature cycling on the production of aflatoxin by Aspergillus parasiticus R-716 in rice, barley, peanut and soybean. In those media, temperature cycling resulted in more total aflatoxin production by the strain of R-716 than constant incubation at $28{\circ}$C and natural condition did. Especially, high level of total aflatoxin ($1826{\mu}g$/30g) in rice medium at temperature cycling was produced. The intensity of yellow color of chloroform extracts correlated with the concentration of aflatoxin, and the ratio of aflatoxin $B_1$ to aflatoxin $B_2, G_1, G_2$ is lower at temperature cycling condition than at $28{\circ}$C.

  • Walsh analysis is applied to the numerical specification of the volume distribution which is the key parameter in the formulation of the constitutive equations of heterogeneous media, indicating the geometrical state of the mixture. An example of two-dimensional volume distribution, its approximation, and the Walsh correlation coefficients are presented and the change of the information distribution in the operations is investigated. The phenomena of information concentration upon the large-scale Walsh coefficients are applied to the volumetric response of porous slids, clarifying the validity of the spherical-model calculation.

  • The presence of the pore fluid strongly influences the reponse of the soil subjected to external loading and in many cases increases the risk of final failure. In this paper, we propose the use of a discrete beam lattice model with the aim to investigate the coupling effects of the solid and fluid phase on the response and failure mechanisms in the saturated soil. The discrete cohesive link lattice model used in this paper, is based on inelastic Timoshenko beam finite elements with enhanced kinematics in axial and transverse direction. The coupling equations for the soil-pore fluid interaction are derived from Terzaghi's principle of effective stresses, Biot's porous media theory and Darcy's law for fluid flow through porous media. The application of the model in soil mechanics is illustrated through several numerical simulations.

  • In liquid cultures using sucrose media, the coculture of Monascus with recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae expressing the glucoamylase gene from Aspergillus niger enhanced red pigment production by approx. 19%, compared with the coculture of wild type S. cerevisiae. Coculture with recombinant S. cerevisiae was more effective than with wild type S. cerevisiae for Monascus red pigment production. Cocultures of Monascus with commercial amylases of Aspergillus also induced high production of pigment and morphological changes in a solid culture using sucrose media.

  • In this study, a transport model was developed in order to analyze and predict the transport behaviors of radionuclides mediated by pseudo-colloid in the fractured rock media. It was resulted that the transport of Pu-239 was faster than Ni-63 because pseudo-colloid formation constant of Pu-239 was greater than that of Ni-63. Also, the effect of pseudo-colloid formation on the transport of a radionuclide was shown to be very significant when the apparent pseudo colloid formation constant, $K_{ap}(m^{3}/kg)$, was greater than 100. Thus, it can be concluded that acceleration of radionuclide migration may be occurred because the pseudo-colloid formation of radionuclides increases the amount of mobile components in the solution and consequently decreases the amount of radionuclides adsorbed on the stationary solid medium.
