Aim of this study was to obtain the heating performance and the economic evaluation on solar heating system for greenhouse which area of floor was $90m^2$. For heating performance effective solar energy for the greenhouse was compared with overall heating loads including coefficient of heat transfer and conduction. And the economic evaluation solar heating system was evaluated by comparison its initial investiment costing with oil saving cost. Initial investiment costing included collector cost, storage cost, piping cost, control system cost and miscellaneous costs which included pumps, motors etc. The contents of this study included the survey of climate conditions for solar heating, long-term collector performance and optimum collector area of solar heating system in existing greenhouse. The results are follows: 1. Average horizontal radiation during winter was $2,434Kcal/m^2$ day which was the highest value in this country, so the climate conditions of Suwon was suitable for solar heating. 2. Resulting calculation of the optimum collector area was $30m^2$ and the solar energy accounted for 30% of the overall heating load. 3. The capacity of storage tank required 60 liter per unit area ($m^2$) of solar collector.
Purpose: The objectives of this study were to construct the solar drying system with evacuated tubular solar collector and to investigate its performance in comparison with indoor and outdoor dryings. Methods: Solar drying system was constructed with using CPC (compound parabolic concentrator) evacuated tubular solar collector. Solar drying system is mainly composed of evacuated tubular solar collector with CPC reflector, storage tank, water-to-air heat exchanger, auxiliary heater, and drying chamber. Performance test of solar drying system was conducted with drying of agricultural products such as sliced radish, potato, carrot, and oyster mushroom. Drying characteristics of agricultural products in solar drying system were compared with those of indoor and outdoor ones. Results: Solar drying system showed considerable effect on reducing the half drying time for all drying samples. However, outdoor drying was more effective than indoor drying on shortening the half drying time for all of drying samples. Solar drying system and outdoor drying for oyster mushroom showed the same half drying time. Conclusions: Oyster mushroom could be dried easily under outdoor drying until MR (Moisture Ratio) was reached to about 0.2. However, solar drying system showed great effect on drying for most samples compared with indoor and outdoor dryings, when MR was less than 0.5.

This paper presents thermal behaviors and performances of a fresh air load reduction system by using earth tube system combined with air-heated solar collector. The earth tube system reduces a fresh air load by heat exchange with soil throughout the year. In the previous experimental research, it was clarified that the earth tube system was very useful as a fresh air load reduction system. However, since outlet temperature of the fresh air which was heated by earth tube system was below 15$^{\circ}C$ in winter, it is not suitable to introduce the fresh air into the place of residence directly. Therefore, a simulation model using the simple heat diffusion equation was used to examine a rising effect of outlet air temperature in winter by combining with air-heated solar collector. An improvement of annual performance by control of operation is also quantitatively examined. In conclusion, it is confirmed that its performance is improved by control of operation throughout the year and outlet air temperature rose by combining with air-heated solar collector.
A review on the papers published in the Korean Journal of Solar Energy between 2000 and 2002 has been done. Focus has been put on current status of research in the aspect of Insolation. Solar Collector and Storage System, Solar Heating and Cooling System, Solar Cell and Lighting System, Active and Passive Solar Building, Heat Transfer in Solar Energy and Natural Energy. The conclusions are as follows. 1) Many studies on Insolation were conducted to optimize the usage of Solar Energy. 2) A review of the recent studies on solar thermal shows that there were many papers on solar collector and storage system. However, studies on the HVAC system using solar energy were relatively insufficient. 3) To produce high efficient solar cell. various experimental and numerical papers were published. However studies on control system, solar cell and lighting were seemed to be insufficient. 4) Studies on using solar energy in passive solar buildings were widely carried out, however, studies based on synthetic analysis of buildings and BIPV were insufficient. 5) Studies on heat transfer were mainly about heat exchanger, performance of heat pipe and multi air conditioner. 6) Studies on energy resources except for solar energy, such as hydraulic power and wind power etc. were very few.
Experimental external collector type solar lumber dryer with $1.6m^2$ of collector area and $1.0m^3$ of maximum dryer capacity was designed and constructed to investigate the conditions inside and outside the dryer and collector. The efficiency of collector was calculated and numbers of drying-days and collector areas required to dry $0.2m^3$ and $1.0m^3$ of pine and oak at various an flow rate inside collector were estimated for eight cities in Korea. Average temperatures of collector-inlet and -outlet air and heat absorber were $52.5^{\circ}C$$57.9^{\circ}C$, and $71.1^{\circ}C$. respectively at 4m/sec of an flow rate inside collector on sunny day in summer. Overall heat transfer coefficient of collector was 4.875W/$m^2^{\circ}C $ and collector efficiency was 52%. Estimated numbers of drying-days required to dry $0.2m^3$ of pine and oak from 80% to 15% moisture content at various air flow rate inside collector were 38 and 66 days. respectively. Areas of collector required to dry $1.0m^3$ of lumber at desired safe drying rate were estimated as $13.7m^2$ for pine and $16.0m^2$ for oak.

We have performed experiments to enhance the stratification in a storage tank in order to raise the collector efficiency and solar fraction in solar thermal systems. The storage tank with a spiral jacket in the side wall has a scroll-shaped heat exchanger coil added to the upper part. The performance was compared between only the side and upper-side heating part through simulation using TRNSYS under the same weather conditions and initial conditions. As a result, the upper-side heating has a 4.2% advantage in solar fraction, but almost no increase in collector efficiency.
Purpose: The solar water heater with natural circulation has been used for several decades in the world as it is automatically operated without a pump and controller and is easy to maintain and repair. After the subsidy was offered from 2012, the solar water heater with natural circulation is becoming increasingly popular in Korea. Recently, the development of a wall-integrated solar water heater, which improves the applicability of buildings and prevents the overheating in the summer, is being developed. On the other hand, the design and performance evaluation data of solar water heaters are very inadequate, and analysis of heat and flow is required to develop a new type of solar water heater. Method: Therefore, in this study, we proposed a new simplified system analysis model that reflects heat and pressure loss from the test results of KS B ISO 9806-1 (Solar collector test method), assuming that the collector is a simple pipe system, the validity of which was verified through experiments. Result: As a result, first, the RMSE of the system circulation flow rate and the average temperature of the inlet and outlet of the collector according to the experimental results and the simulation are 0.05563 and 0.88530, respectively, which are very consistent. Secondly, the mass flow rate is increased linearly with the increase of the solar radiation, and the mass flow rate is 0.0104 ~ 0.0180kg/s in the range of $200{\sim}380W/m^2$ of solar irradiance. Compared with the test flow rate 0.0764kg / s of the test collector, it showed a level of less than 20%.
In this paper, study on performance analysis of bubble pump on the domestic solar water heater system is presented. Device of this experiment is consisted of bubble pump, solar collector and heat exchanger. At the mean time, this system have attached temperature sensors and pressure sensors at bubble pump. In addition, the flow meter was installed at outlet of heat exchanger. And then result of experimental study, average value of the heat exchange amount in heat exchanger was about 7.9kcal/hr, the maximum value of the heat amount in water tank($0.4m^3$) was 489.7kcal/hr and the maximum value of the mass flow rate in bubble pump was about $0.5{\ell}/min$.

The solar water heating system is one of the seven green campus items installed at the Gangneung campus of Gangneung-Wonju National University. The solar water heating system has two types of solar collectors, four storage tanks and monitoring equipment. Fixed and azimuth-tracking solar collectors were installed to collect heat from the sun. The amount of heat collected by the two different types of solar collectors was calculated from the temperature of the monitored storage tanks. Our results showed that the amount of solar heat collected by the azimuth-tracking solar collector was 19% greater on a sunny day and 23% greater on a rainy day than that collected by the fixed solar collector; therefore, the azimuth-tracking solar collectors are, on an average, 21% more efficient than the fixed solar collectors.
Recently, even though the researches on renewable energy like geothermal, wind, solar energy have been performed widely, its use-rate in total energy is still low. This study was carried out to investigate the performance of hybrid heating system, which consisted of solar collector of thermosyphon tube type and X-L pipe boiler. Especially, new type of solar collector was tried and compared with double tube type and, futhermore, performance and safety on X-L pipe boiler were investigated. As the results, efficiency of solar collector of thermosyphon tube type was higher 20.7% than that of double tube type, mainly due to its structural characteristics. It was also confirmed that temperature of special heat medium used X-L pipe boiler rose up about 20% rapidly in comparison with that of pure water.
