Regarding the need of energy in advance and the depletion of fossil fuel energy, all researches around the world now are trying to extract energy from many alternative sources especially the renewable one. Solar, ocean tidal, wind and geothermal energy are renewable energy fields which many researches are focused on. This paper explains about effort to replace electric pump used in solar water heating system by bubble pump. The utilization of bubble pump in this system is very efficient since it needs heat energy for its operation that can be obtained easily. In addition, it can also simplify the construction of the system. Bubble pump also functions as a controller to circulate water inside the system. Before the installation of bubble pump, the special quality and performance of bubble pump should be analyzed. The result got from the analysis could show the fluctuation of water flow rate occurred because it sensitively reacts to the heat quantity. Here the heat quantity is taken from the solar that, as we know, is not stable in a whole day. Problems often occurred are the flow rate in this system is very low moreover it could be stop if the pressure exceeds the limit.
This study was carry out evaluation of long-term performance for the decentralized desalination system with the solar thermal system and the photovoltaic power system. First operating demonstration system was set up in Cheju in 2006. These system comprises the desalination unit with designed daily fresh water capacity of $2m^3$ and is supplied by a $120m^2$ evacuated tubular solar collector, a $6m^3$ heat storage tank, and a 5kW photovoltaic power generation supply the electricity for hydraulic pumps to move the working fluids. In a clear day more than 400W/$m^2$, the daily fresh water showed to produce more than about 500liter, and from January, 2007 to October, 2008 for 2 years, solar irradiance daily averaged was measured 370W/$m^2$, the daily fresh water yield showed that can be produced about 330liter.
The solar air heater has various performances according to an obstacle installed in the air duct. Many studies on thermal performance have been conducted. But many of these studies were using a kind of rib type obstacle attached at the bottom of absorbing plate, but they are so hard to be manufactured. In this study, characteristics of the heat transfer and pressure drop in the solar air heater with various horizontal rectangular obstacles was investigated by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis. As a result, the heat transfer performance was improved from 1.2 to 3.32 times depending on installation conditions of rectangular obstacle. The pressure drop, however, also increased with increment of heat transfer performance from 2.8 to 180 times only by changing installation conditions of rectangular obstacle. Thus, the performance factor presenting the thermal performance enhancement on the same pressure drop was also confirmed. As a result, the highest value of 0.828 as better performance factor was obtained at the lower height of rectangular obstacle and this value has started to decrease with increment of heat transfer performance. In the end, it could be confirmed that the pressure drop was carried higher than the quantity of improvement of the heat transfer performance when the heat transfer performance was increased by change of installation conditions of rectangular obstacle. Both heat transfer enhancement and pressure drop to be required for system need to be considered before the rectangular obstacles are applied to the solar air heater.
The evaporative desalination system using solar thermal energy would be the efficient and attractive method to get fresh water from brine due to low carbon dioxide generation. In this research the solar desalination system as a heating source of refrigerant R123 in the evaporator was considered. The circulation of refrigerant in the evaporator can reduce the energy consumption of the system, because of using the latent heat of the refrigerant 123 instead of the sensible heat of present hot water. The system was comprised of the single-stage fresh water production unit on the capacity of 1ton/day with shell and tube type evaporator, heaters instead of solar collector to supply the proper heat to refrigerant, and refrigerant and brine circulation systems. Various operating flowrate and temperature ranges were varied in the experiments to get the optimum design data. The results showed that the optimum flow rate of brine feed rate to evaporator was 1.2Liter/min, and the yield of fresh water was increased as higher temperature of feed brine. It was confirmed that the circulation flowrate of heating source of refrigerant was decrease of one fifth of the present warm water system, and very efficient system for solar desalination.

Performance of a small-capacity solar absorption cooling system was investigated experimentally. Ten sets of evacuative-tube solar-heat collectors and a 5 kW single-stage absorption cooler were combined to produce a hybrid cooling system. The performance of the cooling system was measured using a tim-coil unit installed in a small plastic storage. It was found from the test on a sunny day of May that when the temperature of the hot water supplied from the solar collectors to the generator of the absorption cooler reached $60^{\circ}C$, the absorption cooler started cooling and the cold water temperature measured from the fan-coil unit reached $18^{\circ}C$. The COP, which is defined as the ratio of the cooling power to the total electrical power input was higher than 1.0.
The goal of this paper is to measure and compare the performance of solar heat pump for refrigerants. To accomplish the goal, solar heat pump with aluminum roll bond type evaporator and indoor heat exchanged(condenser) was built. The test results showed that the COP and heating capacity of HFC-32/125/134a(23/25/52 wt%, $CH_2F_2/CF_3CHF_2/CF_3CH_2F$) were higher than those of HCFC-22$(CHClF_2)$. A study proved that best conditions to use heating system that is about $40m^2$ and $80m^2$. The COP range of the whole system was from 4 to 6 according to the solar collector's area variation. Hydrochlo-rofluorocarbon HCFC-22$(CHClF_2)$ is included in the compound to be controlled. HFC-32/125/134a(23/25/52 wt%, $CH_2F_2/CF_3CHF_2/CF_3CH_2F$) is the most suitable replacement HCFC-22$(CHClF_2)$ in solar heat pump application. The solar heat pump system was designed to show the best efficiency that the room temperature make $18\sim20^{\circ}C$ and $23\sim25^{\circ}C$ in Seoul during the fall season.

Heat pipes, applied to flat plate solar collectors, have a long and slender configuration with relatively low heat flux on the evaporator. Such a heat pipe has a tendency to build-up a liquid pool at the lower half of evaporator zone, and at this pool occurs such complicated phenomena of evaporation and fluid dynamics as superheat, sudden generation of bubble, its likely explosive growth process and flooding etc. In the present study, we tried to solve those problems by means of adjusting the two principle design parameters, liquid fill charge and wick length, using 4 heat pipes and 3 thermosyphons, with different values of parameter respectively. The corresponding results can be summarized as followings, - The thermal conductance of heat pipes was largely improved by el eliminating wick from adiabatic and condenser zone. - But on evaporator zone wick is inevitable to reduce behavior of the build -up of liquid pool , where arise diverse internal complex phenomena. - The liquid fill charge should have to be increased by 10∼20% more than the quantity to saturate the wick.
To obtain thermal performance data, an experiment was performed with the two selected thermosyphon systems. The system parameters obtained by experimental data were used to perform TRNSYS simulation and verified TRNSYS model of thermosyphon solar hot water system. The thermosyphon solar hot water system was TYPE 145 which is modified from non-linear model. This model can describe heat exchange type and non-linear efficiency equation. It is possible to analyze the annual energy rate with efficiency equation and system specification. In this paper, we could compare the annual performance of the coil heat exchanger with that of the tank-in-tank heat exchanger. Under the same efficiency and parameter, heat exchange, drain, initial tank temperature, ratio of tank volume over collector area(V/Ac), regional annual performance rating were performed.
This study was carry out evaluation of seasonal performance for the decentralized desalination system with the solar thermal system and the photovoltaic power system. In a spring season day average $392W/m^2$, the daily fresh water showed to produce about 340liter. In a summer season day average $296W/m^2$, the daily fresh water showed to produce about 328liter. In a autumn season day average $349W/m^2$, the daily fresh water showed to produce about 277liter. In a winter season day average $342W/m^2$, the daily fresh water showed to produce about 271liter.
Pool boiling, one of the key thermal-hydraulics phenomena, has been widely studied for improving heat transfer efficiencies and safety of nuclear power plants, refrigerating systems, solar-collector heat pipes, and other facilities and equipments. In the present study, the critical heat flux (CHF) and heat-transfer coefficients were tested under the pool-boiling state using graphene M-5 and M-15 nanofluids as well as oxidized graphene M-5 nanofluid. The results showed that the highest CHF increase for both graphene M-5 and M-15 was at the 0.01% volume fraction and, moreover, that the CHF-increase ratio for small-diameter graphene M-5 was higher than that for large-diameter graphene M-15. Also at the 0.01% volume fraction, the oxidized graphene M-5 nanofluid showed a 41.82%-higher CHF-increase ratio and a 26.7%-higher heat-transfer coefficient relative to the same nanofluid without oxidation treatment at the excess temperature where the CHF of distilled water occurs.
